Washington Commanders Release Former Ohio State Guard Andrew Norwell

Andrew Norwell’s tenure with the Washington Commanders has ended after just one year.

The guard from Ohio State, who signed a two-year, $10 million deal with Washington in 2022, was released by the Commanders on Monday.

ESPN’s John Keim reported in May that the Commanders planned to release Norwell once he was able to pass a physical after placing him on the physically unable to perform list with an elbow injury. Norwell started all 16 games at left guard for the Commanders last season, but will now be looking to land with a new team as NFL training camps begin.

Norwell had his best NFL season in 2017 when he earned All-Pro honors in his final year with the Carolina Panthers. He went on to spend four years with the Jacksonville Jaguars before joining the Commanders last offseason.
