Don't really want to go to the tape, but it helps me process.

Stroud started 11-13, then went 20-35 rest of the way. We were 1st and 10 on UM 42 at beginning of 2Q - what happened?

First down we go 4 wide with RB sneaking out on release. No pressure, but CJ throws sideline pass to Stover, loss of 3. Marv had single coverage other side. Terrible decision. 8 yard run from Miyan sets up 3rd and 5, and we run into a 7-man box. UM in single high coverage. Actually a pretty nice run play with PJJ and DJ pulling to the right, but Miyan for some reason cuts up into an unblocked LB. If he follows the blockers its a big gain. But why not throw on third and five when you have single coverage on a short pass? I like the call to go for it on 4th and 2, but Stover's route and the throw are terrible. He only needs 2 yards but he goes vertical instead of curling back inside and giving CJ an easier throw. Now it's 20 yard pass by the time CJ gets his drop, and CJ overthrows. RPO there maybe works better. Game changing miss.

But defense gets us the ball back. 1st down throw, then Marv's drop, Hayden runs and Stover can't hold his block, sets up 3rd and 5. At this point we have converted 4 3rd downs, and will only get 1 more the entire game. 5 wide set, UM gets pressure with 4 rushers, Vimahi beat inside, Stroud rushes throw but he needed to scramble or throw right away to Buka on the other side. Instead he throws to Xavier who is covered. Bad decision. Still a better throw would have worked. Or leave pocket and improvise.

Punt away, that brings us to 3rd and 9 from UM 31. We are in cover 0, Sawyer drops, the blitzer is untouched but one step too late, McCarthy throws off his back foot, and I don't know what Cam Brown is doing. You give a free release at the line on an all out blitz (why?), spin around in a circle, and miss a tackle. Horrible coverage. Sawyer's dropping into the flat, no need to give up the sideline.

Nice run, nice Marv catch, then 2nd and 6 on the 24, we get a false start. 2nd and 11, Fleming has single coverage on comeback with plenty of room because DB is retreating, but Stroud throws the shallow cross. Stover even motions inside so Stroud knows that Fleming has single coverage with a DB 10 yards deep. Buka was running into a safety. Now 3rd and 11, we have 115 rushing yards, UM has 1. Another 4 wide set and Stroud air mails Buka. Fleming open underneath, can't see where Marv went, even Stover across was a better look. Stroud seems to be forcing it. Nothing to the deep middle up the seams, which should be effective against that quarters look.

Next UM TD, we're playing two safeties over top, but Cam Martinez totally loses his man. By 5 yards. Really, what the hell. Zero depth and gets spun around by a shitty double move. Horrible. Receiver was covered by Burke at the LOS, but again no bump, just allowing a free release. Not sure if somebody else was supposed to help deep, we certainly had the short middle covered well. Total bust, would have been a nice time to show some zone, after the big momentum swing. But, alas.

Might do second half later, or not, knowing what's coming.
