Four consecutive outright B1G championships. That’s an unprecedented accomplishment in the storied history of Buckeyes football.

Since I started watching in the 1960s, Ohio State has had a string of six straight conference titles in the 1970s and five straight during the Tress era, but both included shared titles (when that possibility existed because there was no championship game).

And, notwithstanding Ohio State’s edge in talent in the B1G in recent years, winning four consecutive conference titles is hard; we have all witnessed how things can go wrong even when you are the favorite.

You might have seen how pleased Saban was last night to have won the SEC championship game (because he recognizes how hard it is to win conference titles—and even his Bama teams have never won four consecutive SEC titles).

So kudos to Urban and Ryan and the rest of the coaching staff the past four years, and to the players on all these championship teams.  This is a sustained level of excellence in the annals of Ohio State football history that really deserves to be recognized for the achievement that it is.
