In 1936 the NFL held its first draft. Two Buckeyes were selected and thus began the 80 year relationship of Ohio State providing talented players to the NFL machine. This series will break down all eight NFL divisions and the teams that drafted the 416 Ohio State players.

New articles will be released on Tuesdays and Fridays through April 26th.

NFC EAST

Teams in the NFC East have selected 71 Buckeyes. 7 of the 71 were First Round picks. The Redskins are the only team in the division not to select an Ohio State player in the first round.

Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles lead the NFC East with Buckeye draft picks. Philadelphia ranks 5th all-time with 23 Ohio State selections. The first Buckeye selected by the Eagles was end Jeff Hague in 1950. The last Ohio State player drafted by the Eagles was linebacker (and 11W contributor) Brian Rolle in 2011.

Highest selected player
DB Jim McDonald was the second player drafted in the 1938 NFL Draft. Although the Eagles selected McDonald he never played for the team. Instead he signed with the Detroit Lions. Over two seasons with Detroit he started four of 20 games. McDonald caught seven passes for 112 yards during his NFL career.

16 years after his two-year NFL career ended McDonald became an assistant coach at Tennessee in 1955. He eventually became head coach of the Volunteers in 1963. After one year and a 5-5 record he accepted the job to be Tennessee's athletic director.

Brian Rolle
Brian Rolle was the last Ohio State player selected by the Philadelphia Eagles. That was in 2011.

New York Giants
The Giants are second in the NFC East and rank 8th all-time with 19 Ohio State draft picks. Back Dick Heekin became the first Buckeye to get drafted by the Giants in 1936. In 2016 corner back Eli Apple became the latest Ohio State player drafted by the Giants.

Highest selected player
John Hicks was selected second in the 1974 NFL Draft. Hicks played four seasons in the NFL and all of them were with the Giants. He started in 50 of the 52 games New York played between 1974 and 1977. Hicks was named the UPI NFC Rookie of the Year in 1974.

Washington Redskins
The Redskins are tied for third in the NFC East with 12 Buckeyes selected and rank 12th all-time. The first Buckeye selected by the Redskins center Steve Andrako in 1940. The last Ohio State player drafted by the Redskins was wide receiver Evan Spencer in 2015.

Highest selected player
RB Tom Barrington was the 38th selection of the 1966 NFL Draft. The Lima, Ohio native played one season with the Redskins before moving on to the New Orleans Saints. During his five year career he started in seven of 57 games he played in. The seven starts came in 1970, his final season. Barrington finished his career with 168 carries, 530 yards and three rushing touchdowns. He also had 278 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are tied for third in the NFC East and rank 13th all-time with 12 Ohio State draft picks. In 1972 wide receiver Jimmy Harris became the first Ohio State player selected by the Cowboys. The last Buckeye drafted by Dallas was running back Ezekiel Elliott in 2016.

Highest selected player
RB Ezekiel Elliott is now the Cowboys' highest selected Buckeye. Before this year's draft LB Bobby Carpenter was the highest Buckeye when he was the 18th player picked in the 2006 NFL Draft. Carpenter played for four teams over his seven year career. He played his first four seasons with the Cowboys with whom he recorded 72 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Between 2010 and 2012 he played for the Lions, Dolphins and Patriots.

Carpenter's most memorable play in the NFL was in the Thanksgiving Day game between the Lions and Cowboys in 2011. His interception return for a touchdown turned the tide for Detroit as the team rallied from a 24-point deficit to defeat Carpenter's former team.

Ezekiel Elliott
Ezekiel Elliott is the highest drafted Buckeye by the Cowboys. He's also the last Oho State player selected by Dallas. Elliott's selection ended a 10 year Buckeye drought for Dallas.
