What a turnaround of a week. After going 1-3 at Cal Poly, Ohio State finished their California road trip down in Fullerton on Wednesday then headed back east for a three-game weekend series at West Virginia, capping off the week by scoring the most runs in a game since 2002.

To finish out the West Coast trip, Ohio State took a short bus trip south for a midweek one game stand against Cal State Fullerton. This game did not start out well as CSUF jumped out to a 7-1 lead after one inning, then 8-2 after two. But the Buckeyes just kept chipping away. A double by Zach Fjelstad to score Mitchell Okuley and Tyler Pettorini, a Josh Stevenson sac-fly to score Joseph Mershon, and a wild pitch on which Fjelstad scored rounded off a 4-run T3 to cut the deficit to 8-6. Then a sac-fly by Okuley to score Henry Kaczmar in the T4 and a 4-run T6 thanks to a bases clearing double by Okuley to score Pettorini, Kaczmar, and Matthew Graveline; and Okuley getting home on a failed pick-off attempt gave Ohio State a late 11-8 lead. A single by Pettorini to score Graveline and a single by Okuley to score Pettorini gave the Buckeyes much needed insurance runs in the T9 to stretch the lead to 13-8. The Titans would get two runs in the B9 and load the bases with one out to make things interesting, but closing pitcher Justin Eckhardt clutched up and struck out the last two batters to seal the 13-10 comeback victory. Relief pitcher Jacob Morin earned the win, his first decision of the year, starting his record at 1-0 as Ohio State closed its west coast road trip.

The BaseBucks would then go back east for a three game weekend series against the Mountaineers of West Virginia.

Game 1 on Friday started out as a pitchers duel as the two starting pitchers combined for 21 strikeouts through 6 innings as Ohio State held on to a 2-1 lead since the T3. However a 3-run homer by West Virginia capping off a 4-run B7 gave them a 5-2 lead they would hold on to for the rest of the game as the WVU closer struck out 6 Buckeye batters in two innings. Despite the 12 strikeouts, starting pitcher Landon Beidelschies recorded the loss, as he was responsible for setting up the 4-run B7, dropping him to 2-3 on the season.

Game 2 on Saturday started off much better as the Buckeyes jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the T1 off a single by Pettorini to score Trey Lipsey, a sac-groundout by Okuley with a WVU error to score Graveline, and a single by Nick Giamarusti to score Mershon. The Mountaineers would tie it up in the B4 and take the lead in the B5, but a 2-run homer by Hank Thomas to score Giamarusti gave Ohio State the lead right back. Then a double by Stevenson to score Isaac Cadena and a single by Thomas to score Stevenson in the T7 gave the Bucks some insurance runs as they held on for the 7-4 win to tie the series. Relief pitcher Gavin DeVooght earned the win to bring him to 2-1.

Game 3 on Sunday was the rubber match for the series and whoo boy, Ohio State's bats came ALIVE. Ohio State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the T1 and really didn't look back from there. West Virginia did tie the game in the B2, but a 5-run T3, 8-run T6, 4-run T7, and 7 run-T8 gave Ohio State a 26-6 lead. West Virginia would score 5 more in the B9, but that was nowhere near enough as Ohio State ran away with a 26-11 win to claim the series. Lipsey, Kaczmar, Graveline, and Pettorini all scored 3 runs each to lead the Buckeyes and relief pitcher Chase Herell earned his first win of the season, bringing him to 1-1.

After the 3-1 week, Ohio State rose to 10-8, West Virginia dropped to 11-9, and CSU Fullerton dropped to 8-10 after a 1-2 weekend against UC San Diego.

Up Next, Ohio State comes home for the home opening 3 game weekend series against Georgetown on B1G+
