He was The Voice of a Generation. It was 1969 and that Generation was in the grips of massive social upheaval. Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy are dead. Riots have swept through Cleveland, Chicago and Los Angeles. Vietnam has the country fractured and that Generation looks to the Voice for guidance...and the Voice heads to Nashville to cut an album with Johnny Cash.

Ever unpredictable, Dylan surprised us yet again with the release of "Nashville Skyline" today in 1969. While Dylan flirted with country music on his 1967 album "John Wesley Harding", https://www.elevenwarriors.com/forum/anything-else/2015/12/65516/bob-dyl... , "Nashville Skyline" represents a consummation of their relationship.

He continued his focus on compact songs with an economy of language and the result was 10 tracks clocking in at a punk rock-like 27:14. The album would reach #3 and spawned a top-10 hit with "Lay Lady Lay".
