Could they have specifically been talking to Wisconsin directly? Their non-conference year in and year out is fairly darn weak. Bret wants the teams he can hang 60 on to pad the stats and get to conference games undefeated.

me thinks the entire league needs to play just one non conference cream puff a year, and schedule quality teams. time for the big 10 to put one their big boy underwear and play some one that is competent, and justify the cost of tickets and exploding tv fees to watch game.

I wouldn't mind playing like...Texas or USC or Alabama in a major OOC tilt, and then maybe a program a notch down from that like Clemson or WV.

Two that big is asking a lot. ...Like 'Bama and ND. Of course, LSU played Oregon and WVU last year which is even more difficult.

I think 1 really big game and then a respectable second or 3rd tier team from a major conference (the Ole Miss, Baylor, Arizona types)

The problem with scheduling food teams is that there's no guarantee that they'll be godo when you play then in 5 years. Just look at the Cal game for example.

but Wisconsin... ANYBODY would be a step up at this point...
