So, you're telling me that football's back? And zero day brings us Steve Spurrier and Mike Leach? Hell. Yes.

Going for it around midfield first drive of the season. S-E-C?
So for the 2014 NFL draft 1st overall pick: Clowney or the field?
The field. Clowney is not an every down end.

While the games don't seem to be super awesome on paper, I don't care because FOOBAWL.
Not college but I hope someone else just saw the amazing one handed TD catch Sanzenbacher just got against the Browns... it was awesome.
I did! And did you see false start Shugarts strike again?
It's great to see real football on the TV.
UCF 35-0 over Akron at half. Next week's opponent looking tough.
Keep in mind, even Joe Bauserman looked good against Akron.

The most sobering thought of the day. Woof.
SCAR's starting QB Shaw just came out with a possible throwing shoulder stinger with the game tied 10-10 1 min before half. If he can't come back, things are looking very bright for Vandy.
Ahhh would love for Vandy to win this game.

I hear you there Jason. Watching the game, off and on, hoping for a close score in the 4th quarter. Scouting Vandy, because this will be us next year. Opening game vs Vandy in the 'Shoe 2013.
I forgot we play them next season, thanks for reminding me. They look tough!
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Vandy could have had two plays before the half instead of one if they did not run the clock down. Meyer would not make a coaching mistake like that.
Don't know why Vandy isn't loading up the box against Lattimore. South Carolina hasn't shown any glimpses of a passing game.
It's opening day and I still hate Mark May

Mike Leach has a job and Craig James doesn't. What a great season.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Mike Leach is back! Swing your sword, fellow pirates!
btw, THEBADBOWL; we are giving the Taliban 10 points when we play them. I'm taking Michigan -10.
Hopefully I'll get good AFN reception tonight...

No matter how sh*tty the tour is, it's always tough to leave.
Rice is fighting hard.
It could get ugly for USC if Shaw can't come back.
Looks like he won't. Still in the locker room.

Anyone else see E(SEC)PN already spinning things in case Alabama loses.
"If Alabama loses it's ok they can still play for a NC but if Michigan loses they are out." Seriously! WTF?
I don't usually watch ESPN but if this is the kind of coverage (garbage) they give it's no wonder why I have stopped watching them.
Anyways OT! Hell yes, football season is here!!!
The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender. - Woody Hayes
I can't say I am upset an SEC high ranked team can lose early! Come on Vandy! Beat them so South Carolina can beat everyone else and ruin the whole SEC!
Wouldn't that make the rankings wrong though?
The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender. - Woody Hayes
Imagine that.
Definitely, go Vandy!
I can't wait until South Carolina loses and this turns into how deep the sec is.
^^this, but not scUM
I was thinking the same thing haha
"Do not pray for an easy life. Rather, pray for the the strength to endure a difficult one" - Bruce Lee
ESPN pretends that Vandy and Ole Miss don't exist and that Kentucky doesn't have a football team
/Duff'd It
KY has a football team? Does Indiana too?
Idaho, Eastern Wash and certainly (only decent team, Sorta, kinda) Wash St area....go Mike Leach,! Go Wash St!
Hoping for Wash St but hopes are probably too high here and Provo is a helluva lot higher elevation than us. It does matter.
Heck yeah elevation matters. If you're not used to a couple 1,000ft elevation gain, it makes breathing more difficult while being active.
Go everybody-not-in-SEc-but-Not-Meechigan
What year is Vandy's QB Rodgers? Is he a Senior?
Answered my own question. Junior. So Buckeyes will see him next year.
Little brother of Aaron Rodgers. Going to be a big time prospect by the name alone.

This Vandy-SCar game is looking pretty high school-ish
"Love my State, hate the football"
Agreed. If this is the #9 team in the nation...I don't even have words...
"The revolution will be televised."
South Carolina has a solid Quarterback a nice running back and a couple of great defensive ends that's about this, a team like Michigan State in my opinion would run these guys off the field. TOSU or Wisconsin would kill them too, what a joke.
Connor Shaw takes hits like Greg Oden. They have two defensive ends and a running back, that is their entire team...
Unrelated mostly...but speaking of cronic injuries...how many sacks on Denard tomorrow? I think at least 5. And 2 int's.
I know your opinion on the SCUM game, just wondering how do you feel about msu against boise.
Difficult to call; Kellen was great, legendary, but Chris Petersen had good teams before him too. I think at home, Sparty wins. Might not be fancy but if BSU doesn't have a very good passing game Sparty does the big-10 thing and its 21-7 Sparty. Just a guess.
Actually, folks up here don't like Boise St. They really insulted Idaho and Wash St (an hour & half away, both) so there is a bunch of local f-u -Boise! (368 miles from here). And they made it clear they're too good to play Wash St who is in the Pac-12. I dunno I'll ever visit Boise, going there would be like making a visit to Akron just to say you went to Arkon (please no offense to you in Akron, but you know you aren't a destination anymore than Obetz Ohio which bears my hometown zip code.)
Go bucks!
Wow nice analysis, I was actually wondering if you were rooting against michigan state because of the state in which they play. I have met some buckeye fans that have this view point, I personally like msu because they make tsun fans so miserable.
Needless to say, we Akronites have reason to be offended when compared to a potato factory, and/or a Appalachian paradise.
mostly unrelated....The Honey Badger has a chronic injury.
since 2001, the Gamecocks have beaten us as much as Michigan has.
So, we have the Kent State fumble return for 58 yards in the wrong direction and now this? All in the first 120 minutes of the season?
Missed you, college football.
The refs are just loving South Carolina in this game.
How do you drop that football?
It's hard to catch a football when you're being blatantly fouled...
Yeh, typical SEC refs, protecting the rankings.
The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender. - Woody Hayes
The Vandy coach should've challenged that play. I know it was clearly an incomplete pass but I've actually seen a couple of games where a penalty was called after the review. Not sure it would've worked but at the very least it would've been worth the attempt.
Very happy to see Leach coaching again. Pissed it's not with Texas Tech.
Yep
vacuuming sucks
Eat sh!t, Gerald Myers.
Serious question- Why does it seem like everyone is celebrating his return. He locked a kid in a shed and got fired for it. I personally can't stand the guy so I'm just curious why people are glad he's back...
"Love my State, hate the football"
Because none of it was true. So yeah, I'm pumped to see what Leach can do with WSU.
The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender. - Woody Hayes
Grad degree is from Tech, here. And yeah, it was pretty much BS, but since Myers and Hance had it in for him for years, it was easy to cut him loose.
Minnesota vs UNLV. I remember when Gopher's QB MarQueis Gray out of Indianapolis was OSU's backup plan if Terrel Pryor commintted elsewhere.
He just has no accuracy at all, might make a nice receiver at the next level though. The kid just really needs to improve as a passer.
Leach's Cougars not looking good against BYU so far
Class of 2010.
I can't decide if BYU is good or WSU is bad.
That's why rankings shouldn't be released for at least a month. But Wazzou was awful last year, and BYU is usually decent, so it being effectively day 1 of the Leach era, it will take some time.
The past 4 years, Wazzu has a 9-40 record. I'd say they are in "rebuilding mode."
WSU seems a little undisciplined. I'm rooting for them but does not look good. This might turn into a brawl, that could be fun.
Holding.
after watching the 2012 version of the Minnesota Golden Gophers for 14:00 minutes, its safe to say they won't be winning the Big 10 in football.
I concur
"Love my State, hate the football"
That SEC game was an absolute joke. Not just for the blatant no-call at the end of the game, but for the fact that both of those teams were equally, and laughably, LOUSY. Wisconsin has a returning star RB and a new QB, and they would have shredded Vanderbilt's defense...sort of like the way CINCINNATI did. So, why is South Carolina ranked 9th and Wisconsin isn't in the top-10? Stoopid.
Had that been a B1G game between Michigan and Northwestern, guess what would have happened to Michigan and the B1G's reputation?
Wisconsin has the best RB in the nation. I don't know if I fully agree with you in that O'Brien to me isn't anything special. If Wisconsin had Russel Wilson this year, I'd be pretty confident in stating that the national title game would be UW-USC (SoCal).
Montee Ball and Marcus Lattimore are like 1A and 1B as far as top running backs go:
http://cfn.scout.com/2/1213386.html
I never said O'Brien is something special. I simply pointed out that he's new to the team. Shaw started last year for SC but not until game 6. I was simply illustrating that both teams have similar things going for them, yet the SEC team gets the benefit of the doubt as a top-10 team for no reason.
Ball has 53 touchdowns in his last 19 games, Lattimore isn't even close to that. I don't disagree with your stance on how it's wrong that South Carolina receives the benefit of the doubt and that Wisconsin doesn't. The one thing South Carolina does have is an elite defensive line, which is something that Wisconsin lacks.
Oh, Ball's stats are unparalleled. But a lot of people think Lattimore has more NFL draft stock for whatever reason...maybe it's overblown SEC hype! lol. I'm not going to deny the fact that the B1G has inferior defensive linemen compared with the SEC. But I don't think their offenses are all that special in contrast. I mean, the LSU-Alabama part 1 game looked more like the Browns-Seahawks 6-3 struggle last season than an epic battle, and not once did I think "boy, these two teams play some of the best defense in the NFL." I don't think LSU's or Alabama's QBs could hack it in the C-USA.
Basically, without the inflammatory rhetoric I like to bring to the table (since it's college football), the fact of the matter is that I have absolutely NO WAY to determine who's good before any football is played...and neither does anyone else. FIVE of the top-10 are SEC teams. F'ing FIVE. It can't possibly be the case that 5 of the top-10 teams in the country are from that one region. The reason I say that is because five teams from the best conference never finish in the top-10 by season's end. Over the last 5 years, the most the SEC has ever gotten into the top-10 in the preseason was 4 in 2009, and they finished the year with 2. Last year they started with 3 and finished with 4. Wisconsin, Michigan State, and West Virginia could make the case that they have just as much claim to be in the preseason top-10 as South Carolina, Georgia and Arkansas. South Carolina and Georgia have to play each other, and Arkansas has to play LSU and Alabama. Only 2-3 of those teams are going to emerge with a top record...i.e. they aren't all going to have 10 wins...but the polls this year make it basically impossible for 2 teams to jump the SEC champ.
And if the polls had any credibility, South Carolina would fall to 15th or 16th after that game...but that's not how they work.
I completely agree. Ideally, preseason polls would no longer be released, and regular season polls wouldn't be released until 4-5 weeks into the season.
How about those flat brown helmets for Minnesota?
I sort of like the flat helmets but wow the UNLV helmet is ugly.
They had a unlv commercial that said Scarlet and Gray everyday, looks like someone tried to steal osu's colors.
I thought the same thing...their new uni's bear a resemblence to ours.
Except their "grey" is like the color of generic plastic products, e.g. pvc.
Either Bobby Houk has UNLV playing great or Minnesota is very bad. UNLV is playing inspired on D.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
Both of these teams combined for 5 wins in 2011. They're both pretty much equally awful, and it definitely looks that way.
Is this Minny-UNLV really going into OT tied at 13? fml.
Sigh...20-20, on to the 2nd OT. Anyone else out there? Anyone.
Heavier Sigh...27-27, let's make it 3. "Now I'm by myself, uh, talking to myself. That's chaos theory!"
Interception! 10 bucks says Minnesota runs the ball 3 times and misses the field goal.
I just lost 10 bucks to myself. Sad. On the bright side I won 10 dollars! Bitchin'! See you guys tomorrow.
You, sir, deserve a medal. I would rather tolerate this entire work day at my hated job, all while barely able to contain my excitement for the Bucks first game, then watch an entire Minnesota game that late at night.
