The team practiced in pads at Ohio Stadium today. Here are some random observations:

  • Jaamal Berry was wearing yellow (although he took it off later in practice, he still didnt participate in drills) along with Sabino and Chad Hagan.
  • Howard and Roby were the first team CBs, although Dominic Clarke did get a couple of first team plays.
  • Curtis Grant blocked a Ben Buchanan punt in the endzone, which was recovered by the defense for a touchdown.
  • Jordan Hall practiced with both receivers and running backs.
  • Devin Smith dropped a couple of passes and one punt, although he did recover the punt after he muffed it. Others returning punts were Devier Posey, Philly Brown, and Evan Spencer. Smith did return a kick to the other 45 later on, though.
  • Brian Bobek looked really good in the OL vs. DL drills. Daryl Baldwin bowled over Tommy Brown in those same drills
  • Bauserman hit Philly Brown for a 45 yard strike on a great throw.
  • As for the QBs: Braxton looked the sharpest today, then Bauserman and Guiton were pretty close, and then Taylor Graham. Graham was overthrowing a lot of balls.
  • Braxton showed pretty good mobility and ability to run the ball.
  • Braxton did fumble while scrambling on one play due to pressure from the defensive line. This was the result of poor protection from the O line.
  • On that note, the D line continued to dominate the O line.
  • Drew Basil was 5/6 on FGs hitting on kicks of 32,37,35,42, and 45, and missing a 49 yarder off the left post on the last play of practice.
  • Ben Buchanan looked pretty good on the day. He was averaging about 50 yds when free kicking and between 40-50 yards in "game situations". He did have a couple of 60+ yard punts, including one in a game situation (he also punted one to the opposing 40 from the endzone).
  • Russell Doup was 2/3 on FGs hitting a 27 yarder and a 32 yarder, and missing a 36 yard FG wide left
  • T.Y. Williams still dropped a few passes, although one was due to a bad throw. He also bobbled a ball, but ended up making the catch. Overall he seemed to be improving a tiny bit.
  • All of the quarterbacks were wearing black jerseys at the beginning of practice except for Kenny Guiton (including Justin Siems, who got some reps today, and didn't look that bad). Guiton did eventually don a black jersey halfway through practice.

Check back later for post-practice interview footage.
