In a move that didn't surprise too many people around Columbus, Donald Washington has decided to forgo his senior season and make himself available for the NFL draft.
I’m very excited to take the next step and pursue my dream of playing in the National Football League, but it has been a difficult and emotional decision.
What are your feelings about Washington leaving? This leaves just one corner returning that has significant playing experience, but there are plenty of youngsters chomping at the bit. We wish Donald nothing but success and hope he continues the great OSU corner tradition in the NFL, currently being upheld by Clements, Springs, Winfield and Gamble.

man, that sucks, but as you said, it was kind of expected. I wish him the best and hope the upcoming youngsters can keep it up
My thoughts exactly. Would have been great to have him around for another year (our secondary would have been pretty damn good with him, Chekwa, and Coleman back), but that wasn't an expectation just hope.
Best of luck at the next level D-Wash!
This reminds me a bit of Ashton Youboty. Wish him well, but I think it is a year too early.
Not surprising given what happened with him last year. But when will he be picked? 2nd day?
Agreed.
Man we are gonna be green in the secondary. Hate to see him go but wish him well.
Hopefully we don't have to worry too much, playing in a conference that lately hasn't been known for racking up the passing yards.
I don't see him going on the first day. I would be interested to hear what projection they gave him. Perhaps the Fiesta Bowl defensive performance raised the level of some guys. I heard Coleman say before Fiesta Bowl he was 3-4th round, after he was told 2nd round.
Good luck Washington, we are going to miss you. Btw, this is the best thing I've read all day:
“I would also like to give my word that I will uphold the Buckeye tradition of doing my best off the field , as well as my best in competing with the premier athletes around the world on the field in the NFL.”
I do not blame Washington, I blame Clifford and Scott. Those two put us in this position by being stupid! CB would fine had those two been on the roster this year!
I think Youboty is a great comparison. I like Washington alright, but I think he could definitely use another year in school. With Jenkins graduating, I'm slightly surprised he wasn't tempted enough to be the top corner on the team and step out of Malcolm's shadow a bit. Gonna be Chekwa's spot now.
Good point.
kind of sucks, but i'm anxious to see what the other guys in the secondary can do. teams very, very rarely tried to go deep on us, and it'll be interesting to see if they change that
If there's anything that the New York Giants of 2007-2008 taught us, it doesn't matter how good your secondary is, it matters how good your pass-rush is (effective vs. future HOF's Tom Brady & Randy Moss). Let's hope Thad-Maximus (I call him The Predator) and Nathan Williams keep improving exponentially. Melvin Fellows anyone?
IMO D-Wash can be a 4-6th round pick if he tests well. Injuries plagued his junior year, which is probably why some people are down on his ability. He came on quite strong as a sophomore.
We've got plenty of athletes in the back four and all-important safety positions are going to be just fine with Coleman & Russell* sticking around.
If we played in the Big12, all this wouldn't matter because they don't play defense in that conference.
Donald Washington = Derek Ross
Remember that guy? He sat out the bowl game so he could get ready for the draft. He was drafted pretty high after good workouts and then busted out of the league. That is what Donald will do, he was in trouble too much and left to get away from it, the problem is he will fall b/c of the character issues. He could go on the first day if he has good workouts but I don't know, the Bengals will probably draft him b/c he will fit right in.
...........a class act indeed. Good luck- the lure of $$ is too hard to pass up.
Why do you want Fickell to decline the ND offer? IMO, the more coaches we can change on that side of the ball, the better we will be.
Fickell is the one guy on that side of the ball I have a lot of faith in leading a great defense. In fact I'd like him to takes Heacock's place.
Yeah, because Youbouty has been *such* a disappointment in the NFL...
Amen. I don't think anyone has pointed a finger at Luke. We love Luke. those of us were contemporaries of his during his wrasslin days don't just love him, we fear him.
never forget D Wash grabbing the ball in Austin and returning it back to the 50 - a key play in a big game that went our way.
I suspect that Fickell would have some different defensive schemes if Heacock were not his boss.... . that may be the reason he leaves. It should be the other way around. Working for Cheeseburger Charlie though???? Yikes, there is no food left at the buffet, no air left to breathe, and no room for anyone elses ego.
It's not that he's been a bust, but sticking another year could have meant a first round selection instead of the third where he went. That's worth a nice chunk of change right there.
Regardless, I'll never fault anyone for wanting to leave early if they're set to get drafted. I know I would have a hard time saying no to that money.
Fickell has been the one person responsible for not letting our defense go completely to the birds! AJ Hawk gave him all the credit for his success. Hawk was only a 2 star out of high school. You also hear alot of current linebacker recruits say they really like Fickell. I dont think Ive EVER heard anyone say they're coming to Columbus because of Heacock though. HMMMMM??
Heacock is a dinosaur and great recruiting has saved his ass, cant wait til he's gone. Should be now. I dont give a damn how they played in the Fiesta Bowl.
DW is definitely a nice player, should be a solid pro. Not gonna say beast, though. Too many people throwing that word around. Heard a guy commenting on the last article saying Coleman is a beast. Im not saying he is that either, he could be. He's dropped alot of int's for my taste.
How many games did DW actually start? Two, maybe three? Ashton Youboty started every game, and was for the most part solid; Washington couldn't win his job back from a redshirt sophomore.
Doubt he gets drafted. I wish him luck covering Hartline in the Grey Cup in a few years.
Why all the hate young man?
I hope Chekwa has been studying up on his 'man' coverage

may we breathe easier... unless we take this with a grain of salt.

actually, confirmation is even better.
Dodged one there. Thanks for the link.

No hate here, just reasoned analysis of the guy's chances. He is not an NFL prospect in any sense of the word. His senior year may have moved him not only into the draft, but in the first day.
I think the same thing about Hartline, FWIW.
Will Hines play safety, or is there talk of him at linebacker? I thought he was one of the better talents out there before he was injured.
