Ohio State coach Urban Meyer met with the media on Wednesday for his final press conference of the week before the Buckeyes' trip to West Lafayette to play Purdue at Ross-Ade Stadium on Saturday (7:30 p.m., ABC).

A bullet-point recap of what Meyer had to say:

  • On the growth of Ohio State's wide receivers: "Those guys really have developed ... you can't look past that development."
  • "It does impact practice quite a bit" that there are a good amount of players injured at this point of the season.
  • Meyer said wide receivers coach Brian Hartline already had a strong technical knowledge of the wide receivers position going into the season, having played the position in the NFL, but has developed in his tactical knowledge of the game.
  • On Tyreke Smith: "Tyreke's just getting better and better. He's got a great future."
  • Meyer said the wide receivers do have fun with practicing one-handed catches, especially since Odell Beckham Jr.'s famous catch a couple years ago.
  • "Nick Bosa and Joey and the Bosa family, from the moment they walked on campus, they were great for us."
  • Is it a possibility that Tate Martell could play in short-yardage packages? "Sure."
  • Meyer said Isaiah Prince "arguably had one of his better games" early in the game against Minnesota, but struggled after Carter Coughlin made a couple big plays against him.
