22 years ago today, a college football tradition was born.
When it came time for the ESPN College GameDay crew to make their picks ahead of the 1996 top-five showdown between No. 3 Ohio State and No. 4 Penn State, Lee Corso did his with a little added emphasis.
In a scene which is now a familiar part of a college football Saturday, Corso reached down, grabbed a Brutus Buckeye mascot head and threw it on, picking the Buckeyes. The crowd went nuts, and a legend was born.
It proved to be a good omen for Ohio State, as the Buckeyes downed Penn State 38-7.
