Top-Ranked 2021 Center Chet Holmgren Taking Official Visit to Ohio State This Weekend

Ohio State needs a big man in its 2021 recruiting class, and Chet Holmgren would certainly fill that spot.

Holmgren, the No. 4 overall prospect and the top-ranked center in 2021, announced he's taking an official visit to Ohio State this weekend.

He's a 7-foot, 190-pound native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, whose father played for the Golden Gophers. Holmgren picked up an Ohio State offer on June 17. Gonzaga, Purdue, Texas, Minnesota, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Tennessee and West Virginia are also among the programs that have extended him scholarship offers.

With his unusual size, Holmgren has one of the most uncommon games among all high school basketball players.

He averaged 18.6 points and 11 rebounds as a sophomore at Minnehaha Academy, using every inch of wingspan to add 5.5 blocks per game. Holmgren has shown comfortability off the bounce and pulling up from beyond the 3-point line, confounding talent evaluators.

He also recently gained notoriety by hitting Stephen Curry with one of his own moves.

The Buckeyes currently have the nation's top-ranked 2021 recruiting class, which includes commitments from four-star guard Meechie Johnson and four-star power forward Kalen Etzler.

They also landed a commitment from four-star 2020 wing Eugene Brown earlier this week, and could be in line to add a second prospect in the 2020 class this weekend with three-star power forward Zed Key announcing his decision at 2 p.m. Sunday.

With the 2020 class potentially wrapping up this weekend, Chris Holtmann and his coaching staff might soon be able to turn their entire focus to the 2021 and 2022 classes, beginning with Holmgren this weekend.
