Took me forever to find it in that mess but here it is: Preferential Treatment, Benefits or Services. Preferential treatment, benefits or services because of the individual's athletics reputation or skill or pay-back potential as a professional athlete, unless such treatment, benefits or services are specifically permitted under NCAA legislation. [R] (Revised: 1/11/94, 1/14/08)

Stupid rule.

I was going to mention this same thing, Holtmann seems to have some kryptonite against this team. Let's hope he gets three wins against them. Either win or lose, the experience against Nova will be a win for this young team who has a tough road ahead.

He said he's gained 30lbs since he's been apart of the team. Coach Mick at it again!

The coaches seem to know how to play to a QB's strengths and develop them to succeed on the field. It also helps that we have a good O-line (even our 2nd string) and a bunch of 4-5* receivers to toss the ball to.

It's pretty much the only way I'd let him keep his job if I was MSU. He could argue to keep his defensive coaches but that offense is horrible even after they shuffled the coaches around. Should be a sign that none of them are worth keeping.

His recruiting has been on a steady decline since 2011. They definitely benefited in recruiting from Tattoo Gate.

Joe wasn't forced out of here and it shows in the fact that he still mentions OSU so much and talks to Urban regularly. It wouldn't surprise me if he talks to Ryan Day from time to time too since Day had a big part in his development. Joe wasn't great last year but what QB would've been in that old style offense they were using? His time at OSU had a lot to do with poor circumstances and timing... JT Barrett staying the extra year, breaking his hand letting Haskins get ahead of him on the depth chart, having to battle it out with a guy who ended up breaking every OSU single season passing record there was. I would've loved to see him out there leading our team but it just didn't play out and I think he understands that.

Exactly, until Bama proves on the field they are one of the best teams, against good competition, then they should have to be sitting outside the playoff hunt. Our 2015 loss to MSU was far less damaging (bad weather, last second field goal, we played defense) yet we got left out of the playoffs even though we arguable had the most talented team that year. Bama's defense has been suspect all year long and their run game has been so so even against lesser opponents. They don't look like a playoff team to me.

It helps that our offense sees zone coverage in practice now that our D actually uses it. I remember JT a few years back saying they never practiced against zone coverage because our defense didn't use it (Schiano).

Our defense is the same way. This whole team is coached to be adaptable on the fly and plug and play different players to create different match ups. I'd say Day and all of the coaches sat down at the beginning of the year and said "what's the hardest type of team to beat?" It's clear to see what their answer to that was....  A team that can adapt to anything the opponent throws at that them on the fly. It's no longer just talented players overwhelming the opponent, it's the coaches making sure the players are in the best position to succeed by taking advantage to the other teams weaknesses.

I agree, we are going to have to get in sync with the deep ball, especially with the tougher defenses coming up who will try to take away our short passing game and force us to throw long. I think our offense has been pretty unstoppable other than that. It amazes me how our offensive coaches seem to be able to pick apart and exploit whatever these defenses throw at us.

Man this team is gritty, which is what Chris Holtmann coached teams are known for. Once they started driving to the basket on offense it really got them going in the 2nd half. CJ's turnovers were unnerving but his free throws were clutch. DJ was outstanding in the second half and is going to be fun to watch all season. EJ looked good for a fesh other then some turnovers. I was surprised not to see at least a little bit of Alonzo out there... Andre's 3 point shooting looked improved and I hope his injury isn't serious. Duane made some nice drives and some shots when we needed it. Luther looked good on defense but struggling on offense like last year. Kaleb looked good at times and I think his weight loss helps him move quicker but needs to work on his foul shots. Kyle Young was the man out there and I never thought i'd say that, but he does whatever is needed when the going is tough. I'm sure coach will get stuff cleaned up.

The only thing that matters is the Buckeyes can't lose. There's no perfect system and the only way to stay safely in the playoff is not to lose. IMO if LSU beats Bama they deserve the #1 because they beat them on the road and it's Bama they beat. But, IMO there's no way LSU beats Bama because Saban will out coach Coach O and it's a home game for Bama.
