For starters you were wrong to bring a high school team into this conversation. It's clear the OP was referring to college fan bases. Secondly, you were wrong to think that you could make inaccurate comments about Massillon and not get challenged on it. Third, you were wrong to imply that Massillon chose the be DII. Massillon has struggled economically for decades and the population has dwindled. DII is where the numbers put them. And lastly, I can't dispute the story about the vandalized vehicles but since most of the rest of your post is riddled with inaccuracies and half truths, that story is suspect also. Even if it is true, Massillon vehicles have been vandalized at away games for at least 60 years that I know of so it is not unique to just Massillon games. Massillon has a large fan base and has it's share of jerk fans but it's obvious that Saint Ignatius has at least one.
Oh and BTW you have another fact wrong. Massillon did beat Iggy once in 2005 29-26. It's not much but we do have 1 win.
Our starting QB took a cheap shot after a pass and it knocked him out of the game late in the 4th quarter.. The back-up came in and drove the field for the winning touch down with 10 seconds left. That was at Byers Field.
Check this year's schedule. Iggy will be coming to Paul Brown Tiger Stadium 9/25. Maybe you and your fan base should just charter a bus down that way you don't need to worry about damage to your vehicles.
If we can't defend slants with any consistency next week then we sure wouldn't be able to deal with Joe Burrow.
I'm happy he's done a good job as president but what he did to Urban was not right.
I'm rooting for Joe. He's a great kid. He wanted to play at OSU but it didn't work out. If we have to play LSU I hope we mud stomp them but it won't go well for Joe in Red Stick. I know that fan base very well as I married into an LSU family. They will blame him for the loss even if he has a decent game.
I am never happy when a Massillon kid chooses to play for TTUN.. Ironically, both Denny Franklin and Shawn Crable had a hand in helping the Buckeyes secure a win against them. Franklin's fumble on the goal line on 4th and 1 in 1972 was key to the 14-11 win by the Good guys. In 2006 Crable's hit out of bounds on Troy extended a drive and led to the game winning field goal.
My pick is Glenville. Maybe Canton Mckinley. Who do the rest of you pick?
I saw that game live. It was a devastating hit. Corby didn't play the same in that game after that.
Take your time Thayer. It's a long season and the team will need you for the long run. Great to hear he is healthy and improving.
Absolutely RRR. I remember from my high school days (graduated in 70) and even more recently. Always an electric atmosphere when the Tigers and Big Red meet. No matter if it was home or away the stadiums were always packed. One thing that was annoying in your stadium was that constant braying of the horse (joking)!! Actually it's pretty cool.
Stuebenville has a great football tradition. They always have hard nosed kids playing with lots of skill and knowledge. To RRR: How many years do you think Reno has left in him?
I agree with RRR. I really enjoy reading about all of the Ohio high school Buckeyes and I really like the extra contributions from GTH, Lamplighter and Ludwig Yards
Rick is a great guy. Lots of fun. I played a lot of poker with him into the wee hours of the morning in Stradley Hall. He was a better linebacker than he was a poker player.
Coach Trivissonno is a class act. He'll be missed but I hope he has a great retirement.
Awesome story TNB
I was born in Massillon in 1952 so growing up it was natural to follow Buckeye football. It's always been a part of my life. I met my future wife the first weekend as a freshman at OSU. Graduated in 1974 and was married the following day. I've lived in many places but have always followed Buckeye football. My son was a walk on wrestler for the Buckeyes from 1997 to 2002 so naturally I have been following the wrestling team closely too.
Kraus' Pizza on Amherst in Massillon Ohio.
When I come home to watch a Tigers game I stop there first to pick one up and then take it home. Dad and I eat it and then head to the game. Best pre-game meal ever.
Yeah keep shining those 21 year old trophies. You've done very little since then despite the fact that you keep consolidating schools and insist on calling it McKinley. How many times will you need to consolidate before you get another one? Oh and by the way, for the record, the rivalry stands at 71-53-5 in favor of the Tigers. Since the time you've been shining those trophies in the 1972 playoff era, the record is 30-23 in favor of the Tigers. Sorry, I had to. Low hanging fruit.
You're right about one thing. Being a Canton McKinley fan you are sad.
Right, there's always somebody that will try diminish my school. It comes with the territory.
The Steve Luke you are referring to from the 70's Buckeye teams went to Massillon Washington (the only real Massillon) not Perry.
There's only ONE Massillon.
I got on to an elevator in Stradley Hall in either 73 or 74. The only person on it was Archie. We said Hi to each other but otherwise rode the elevator in silence. I was in shock and just couldn't think of anything else to say. The thing that stuck out at the time was it seemed like his thighs were as big as tree trunks. Twenty four years later, as Assistant AD, he came to my son's room (incoming freshman wrestler) to welcome him to the campus. He was a genuine, wonderful person.
Aidan Longwell the QB for Massillon, will be a senior this year and Jayden will be a junior. Longwell has several D1 offers to play QB and has offers to play baseball as a pitcher. He is one heck of a QB and pitcher. It'll be fun to see both of them light it up this year.
