Time to Replace RT Prince & RG Knox?  Is Meyer too loyal to make the changes?

Sometimes players have reached their potential and won’t improve with more practice, etc.

Prince has repeatedly gotten beaten by quick DEs. He is a senior with plenty of experience and there are doubts that more experience will lead to improvement.

Knox gets repeatedly pushed back into the backfield particularly on short run situations.

Everyone hoped that QB Barrett would improve his passing with more experience, etc. But he never did. Time to rotate others in to play RT and RG?

Game Notes:

Positives: 1. WRs showed good catching skills and good route running.  Kudos to Hartline.  2. Haskins is accurate when OL gives him time.  3. Defense played better in 2nd half when SS Pryor played.  4. Defense stopped QB runs that plagued them in PSU game.  5.  Play calling seemed good and focus is taking what defense is giving OSU.  E.G.  Went verticle in absence of blitzes and passed to opens spots when faced zone defense.

Negatives: 1. Running game needs to get better in order prevent being one dimensional.  Correctly ran QB some in order to improve running game.  2.  Defensive back scheme seems to rely too much on DB watching WRs to knock ball out of their hands rather than turning heads to play ball but maybe coaches leaving it up to whether DB's decision and their ability to stay with WRs.  Need to review defensive coaching decision on how to defend WRs.  3. Defense personnel issues:  Coaches know that Wint is weak but played him because Pryor was out first half and he has more experience than others like Wade.  Wade should get more playing time when understands game better. 4. Meyer might be a little too loyal to more experienced guys but values experience and has excellent track record.

You ask what could be hurting recruiting this year?  Well unsubstantiated media stories, like the one that appears in CBS Sports that speculates that Urban and OSU could part ways at  the end of the football season, could give any recruit pause about coming to OSU.

OSU's football program, media and press relations offices need to address this issue fast.  If OSU wins out and makes the playoff, that should put to rest speculation about Urban's departure.

Here is the CBS Sports article:  https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/2018-college-football-hot-seat-rankings-urban-meyer-jim-harbaugh-head-in-different-directions/

Suggest people here post comments in response to some of those erroneous articles and commentators that are smearing Meyer's reputation. Call out the lack of journalistic integrity of writers and commentators like Sally Jenkins of Washington Post, Nicole Auerbach (UM) of The Athletic, Hearther Dinich of ESPN, and of course Demond Howard and Paul Finebaum, and speak truth to power.

Misleading stories about Coach Meyer mishandling domestic violence need to be cleared up because it could hurt recruiting unless it is cleared up!

Meyer has rightly been trying to clear up media erroneous stories that the suspension was about mishandling of domestic violence.  Columnists like Sally Jenkins of Washington Post and Nicole Auerbach (Mich grad)  of The Athletic, Desmond Howard and Heather Dinich on ESPN, Paul Finebaum, and even The Lantern have all erroneously portrayed Meyer as "not getting it" and mishandling DV.

Investigation specifically found that Meyer and AD Smith did not cover up any domestic violence and did report it to offices of OSU.  Suspension related to mishandling of a troubled employee regarding work related issues. Much of the media has been smearing Meyer’s reputation and sites like Eleven Warriors need to speak up to set the record straight.

Media comments & articles (like ESPN Brett McMurphy’s) on Ohio State’s coach Urban Meyer have been seriously factually inaccurate and misleading and draw unfair conclusions based on those inaccuracies. The foregoing comments failed to disclose 2 very important points: 1. Ohio State’s report that found that OSU and Meyer did not cover up the allegations regarding domestic violence made against Asst. Coach Smith and, in fact Meyer (and A.D. Smith) reported the allegations to various offices of OSU.  Therefore, this is not a case of Penn State Coach Paterno knowingly ignoring ongoing sex abuse.  2. The police report found that there was no evidence supporting Courtney Smith’s claims of domestic abuse, and Courtney’s mother has said that Courtney’s is lying in order to get back at her husband for having an affair.

Urban is getting his butt kicked in recruiting recently.  Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Texas and Clemson have either flipped or beat out Urban in landing highly rated recruits.  In particular Dabo "owns" Urban.  Clemson and Dabo have beaten OSU & Urban twice in bowl games including getting shout out in last year's playoff game.  And to add insult to injury, Dabo graps a 5 Star OL Carman from Ohio from Urban.  May be Dabo is right, Urban is on the back 9.

Bench QB Barrett because he is the problem. The WRs and RBs around Barrett are not the problem because they have been numerous 4 star recruits and some of them must be good. Similarly, the OC & QB coaches are not the problem because Barrett passed poorly previously with Warriner & Beck and now with Wilson & Day. (Three years ago, I said fire Matta and was proven right).

Buckeyes' Needs:

1. Defensive Tackle: I am all about getting DT Marvin Wilson because the Buckeyes need a genuine run stopper as DT.

2. Offensive lineman:  We need another top tier lineman because the OL is the weakest unit, OSU has had a top tier prospect flip to Colorado and one of two present OL Myers had a poor showing in the Army All American Bowl.

Winning starts on the Line of Scrimmage.

Thanks BumJuiceisbitter for Twitter comments. Keep us posted.

Wilson is best of the remaining targets. He is the who is likely to make a real impact. Wilson seems to recognize that Coach Johnson is the real deal.

Okudah also seems to understands that OSU offers the best overall program for both developing a football player for the NFL and for life after a football career.  So perhaps, OSU is in good shape with fellow Texans like Okudah and Browning convincing Wilson that choosing the Buckeyes is the best way to go.

Sounds good. Day has NFL experience with Chip Kelly at both Phil and SF.  Day's NFL experience will sell well with recruits and knows what it takes to be a NFL QB.

Urban Meyer bears some responsibility here.

Meyer is accountable for both hiring the offensive assistants and for not letting them go before he was embarrassed by Clemson. Urban hired the assistant offensive coaches and knows first hand their abilities after they have worked as coaches. Therefore, Meyer waited a little too late to now consider firing some of them after OSU has suffered one of its worst losses ever!
