Because OU has held their opponents to a 25 PPG average...oh wait yea this makes no sense.
Think we stay put at #2 but that drives me crazy. Standards arent applied evenly. Media is saying we almost blew a 21 point lead. What about LSU almost blowing a 20 point lead against Bama? Not one mention of that. What about LSU giving up atleast 30 points in 4 games? Or the fact that the only teams they kept below 20 points were GA southern, Northwestern St, Utah St, and Miss st. Love how we get criticized for an 11 point win against a ranked opponent but it's okay for LSU to win against ranked opponents by 14 points, 3 points, and 5 points.
Obviously we have 1st world problems but yea I agree. I would understand it more if fields was struggling in the passing game but I thought he threw really well. I would argue that the 2nd half fumbles may not have happened had we been willing to pass more and keep PSU off balance. They have to hold on to the ball but there is a root cause for how multiple defenders got to them so fast on those 2 fumbles
Disagree. We were conservative prior to the 2 fumbles. Prior to dobbins fumbling he already had 26 carries. We were conservative the whole game because the success of our 1st drive of the 1st quarter and PSU started loading the box. Got to hold on to the ball but both 2nd half fumbles were caused by multiple defenders being on dobbins and fields almost immediately because we were unwilling to open it up to gain space for the ground game again.
I agree that PSU was in the game because of our turnovers. However, I think those turnovers were made possible by going to the well a few too many times. First drive of the 3rd quarter prior to the 2 fumbles dobbins had 26 carries. PSU loaded the box as a result and both dobbins and fields were hit almost immediately on the plays they fumbled. Fields was throwing pretty well the whole game. Not sure why we didnt open it up. Not to mention being up by 11 with 3 minutes left in the game and we run on 3rd and 8(i think) only to go for it on 4th down with a passing play. Why wouldnt we just pass on 3rd down then if we were willing to go for it on 4th and give PSU another chance with great field position on the 40. Luckily our D held up. Little things like that arent making sense to me. But it's awesome to complain about our closest game yet when we won by 11.
Great win but seriously what was going on with the playcalling?
KJ Hill would disagree. It's weird how KJ Hill seems to go so unnoticed each season but will more than likely break Boston's career receptions record. To me, he has been the most reliable each week for the last few seasons
Wish the NFL would have the balls to say, "we messed up and the call changed the outcome of the game. The game will restart from that moment." If they get that call, the game is essentially over. 1:45 left on the clock, Rams with 1 timeout. 3 QB kneels and a field goal later....Saints go to the super bowl. Not sure what's worse, having to watch Tom Brady in the super bowl again or watch a team play in the super bowl that shouldn't be. On a side note, I'm only pissed about this because it screwed over so many former OSU players
A win is a win but sweet baby jesus. All year we run screen passes to wideouts/RB from time to time except in the final quarter of the last game with the defense blitzing everyone. Bitter taste for sure with that ending but fitting for a team with tremendous talent but a screw or two loose that held them back. 242 days until next year. O-H!
Just glad Tua didn't win. Never thought I'd live long enough to see a OSU QB throw for over 4,500 and be an afterthought in the Heisman discussion
Yes we lost by 29. But what a lot of people forget about that game is we outgained Purdue in total yards, had 1 turnover vs 0 for Purdue, and made critical mistakes at the worst times (Hamilton doing a cartwheel to rough the punter and extend a drive that led to a TD, Jones roughing Blough on a 3rd down stop to extend a drive that led to a touchdown, etc.) Were we dominated? No. Did we self destruct? Yes. Self destruction is a shortcoming for this team. Just saying, WHEN this OSU team doesn't shoot itself in the foot they are hard to beat
Purdue is probably, and deservedly so, this teams downfall. Buuuut atleast say the loss is the reason why we get left out. I dont see a huge difference between OU's offense and ours. Despite our defensive issues, I do see a huge difference between our defense and theirs. Why do we get heat for a failed 2 pt conversion win vs maryland (who beat texas) but OU gets different treatment vs Ok. St. Why is our win vs Mich St sloppy but their win vs Kansas is not? Why does Army/Iowa St count as quality win but PSU does not for us? Is Texas better than Northwestern? Maybe, but cant help but think if Maryland can beat them 2 years in a row that Texas may be a middle of the road BIG 10 team. All in all, I am ecstatic with a conference championship considering the distractions this years team dealt with. I will forever believe our team is better than ND, is more complete than OU, and Clemson got away with playing virtually nobody all year
Yep. Officiating was horrible today. Dwayne haskins being hit after sliding not called, KJ Hill being hit out of bounds following a crossing route not called, Michigan WR throwing OSU DB to the ground not called, questionable pass interference on our defense that led to a TD, and a facemask called against our D that wasnt a facemask...to name a few. All in all officiating extended drives for that team up north and led to about 21 points. Could have easily been 62-18 good guys.. including the horrid play by McCall to also give them 7 points. Defense played great today
0 Zacks in the game for that piece of shit school. More than likely remember the 1 play the head and shoulders spokesperson made...tackled dobbins or Weber for loss on a handoff coming from the weakside
Just wait for next week. If white isnt starting that will say a lot. There are some linebackers that deserve a chance to play as well
Well atleast we found a 2nd player that can play safety. Question is, will they use White from here on out with fuller coming back?
I can live with the targeting call. Think the rule needs some tweaking though. What I cant live with is this team showing zero heart. As a team we have looked good this season for one quarter against Penn State. You have two weeks to prepare for a 2-6 team and this is what you came up with?
This team is also a breath away from being 6-2 or 5-3 with uninspiring wins against Indiana and Minnesota. Love my Buckeyes no matter what but reality is we are almost 3/4 done with the season. We aren't about to find our identify. We already have one. Great passing team, bad running team, and an average defense at best. Both offensively and defensively we can self destruct at any moment with untimely mistakes.
More penalty yards than rushing yards. More major/mental errors than touchdowns. I mean we left 22 points on the field in red zone chances alone. Add in our mental errors that extended drives for Purdue that led to touchdowns and that adds up to 36 points. Left 22 points on the field and gifted them with 14. Hell you can even add an additional 7 points for somehow not stopping a fake field goal attempt. That's not including purdue's last 2 touchdowns. It's one thing to beat yourself and lose in close fashion. It's another when you had every opportunity to win but managed to screw up so bad at every key point that you got blown out
So did the coaches ability to enact meaningful change. Hoping they spend the next 2 weeks implementing a plan that utilizes our strengths. Hell, we run a defense that exploits our weaknesses. I almost threw my remote every time I saw Haskins motion like he might run up the middle and then drop back and pass. That play action fools nobody. He can't run. I mean who the hell thinks a play action will fool a defense if you don't have a running game. Tired of RPOs. Draw up running plays. Draw up passing plays. Seriously consider what defenses are showing you, and call plays that take advantage of weaknesses. If you are moving the ball with uptempo, keep using it.
Spot on and great ideas. However, I'll take the opposite side of that bet. We have shown that we are unwilling to change things that aren't working. What I'm most afraid of is playing Nebraska. Things will go well. Everyone thinks they fixed things. Then The same issues show up at Michigan State
So many issues on this team that have been issues for a while. I agree with Bosa's decision to not return, but he could have stayed with the team. He's a captain. Prince is weak mentally and mistakes he makes consistently cost us. First and foremost we have leadership problems. We also don't seem to recognize that our linebackers cant fight through blocks but line them up a foot or less from 300+lb Oline. Hamiltons roughing the kicker penalty was ridiculous. Dude is 300 lbs. You aren't fast enough to block a punt. Do your job and eat up blockers. Why coaches insist on doing the same things that haven't worked this year is insane. We are more than halfway through the season. It's not working. Make adjustments that play to strengths of what players can do or replace them with someone who is better at what you are having them do. Blown coverages in zone defense happens. But we are having blown coverages in man defense. We have played teams that consistently throw the ball immediately because our DBs are 10 yards from the receiver, yet keep making them line up that way. Rondale Moore didn't do anything spectacular last night. But we continued to let him be in a position to be open. Purdue's Qb threw across his body to convert a 3rd down late...and there were at least 5 Buckeyes there. The loss was overdue and probably will happen again unless huge changes are made
Yea the inability to adapt quickly is mind boggling. Try a new OL or give the current ones help. Defensively, Minnesota's receivers ran one route pretty much the whole game. And we let them. Don't let the receivers get inside of you or change the scheme and a you probably have an easy pick 6
Yea, we miss Bosa dearly. With him, not a great defense but he alone has the ability to force mistakes that shift the momentum and outcome of a game. Without him, we try hard but are out of position and may even be playing a base defense that doesn't fit the strengths of the players we have. Thank god for Haskins. Right now he's the difference between a 7-0 record vs 5-2 or 4-3
Sure, as a freshman he does need the work. But dear god. Either pull Prince or have a TE over on that side to assist with blocking. Gotta do something. The willingness to stick with what isnt working will cost us eventually. We don't need to play perfect, but we do need to show the ability to adapt to the reality of what is happening in a game. And the reality is that Prince didn't show up today. His name was called almost as frequently as Haskins...
