Coombs. I genuinely believe he was a huge part of why our secondary was so dominant under Meyer.
I tend to agree. In general I tend to like a lot of movement and motion on offense and the opposite on defense.
meaning they gave up a lot of successful, explosive running plays.
Who? Because they are complete idiots. I can kind of understand people being annoyed at Campbell's drops(which he hasn't struggled with this year), but McLaurin is one of those Evan Spencer type glue guys(only better) and Dixon was a big play waiting to happen. These 3 WRs are a large part of why our offense was so good this season.
Great news for our defense. We need him to be a leader next year.
We can only hope lol. If we can manage to keep Wilson for a couple more years I will be very happy. Honestly though, I wouldn't be surprised to see Wilson, Day, and Schiano all leave for head coaching gigs after this season. Hopefully, we manage to keep 1 or 2 of them but they are gonna have plenty of offers.
I mean they go from being the best in the country to "just" top 8 or so, but to act like Bosa is what makes this D-line one of the best in the country by himself is just asinine.
He undoubtedly had a rough day Saturday night, but he will be fine.
No doubt he struggled with those drops. On the bright side, if getting 4rec for 84yds against a good defense and the No15 team is a bad game for you then you're clearly talented.
Agreed 100%. And I do think it is important to point out that he made a handful of good plays after having a rough stretch. It is one thing if he drops three balls in a row and then disappears, he didn't do that. Imo, it looks like Haskin's favorite targets are Austin Mack, KJ Hill, and Johnnie Dixon. Austin Mack has been a guy that Haskin's has been targeting a lot and clearly trusts, no reason to take him out for 3 drops when he made up for those mistakes and has good chemistry with our QB.
I dont know if Nick gets 15+ sacks, I think 12-15 may be more realistic once teams start to key in on him. Other guys will get more opportunities because of Nick.
I didn't get to watch the OSU v Oregon St game live so getting to watch Burrow start for the first time was exciting and was actually more exciting than seeing OSU beat up on some cupcake. I was hyped up for it. Glad he played well.
To be fair, If Joe Burrow would have transferred to ttun I don't think he'd be getting as much love from the fans. Also, they would have beaten ND lol
Imho, Tate was never actually in the competition to start. It was always gonna be Burrow or Haskins. Obviously, as a coach you don't say that so as not to kill the morale of a young talented player, but I don't think there would have been any way for the coaches to justify starting Martell over either of those guys. Just my opinion.
I agree Joe is a "game manager" but I don't like the term for him. In this first game, yeah all he did was manage the game and protect the ball, but I think Joe will surprise some people later in the year with his ability to throw. Dude has an arm, and is an accurate passer. I expect to see him sling it around more now that the coaches and team have even more confidence in him.
Came here to point this out. If you watched the game you would have seen 4 drops(that I can think of off the top of my head) that would have gone for 50+ yards combined and led to possibly more TD's and bigger plays.Burrow was on the money for most of his throws but their inconsistent oline play didn't help him at all.
I mean...you aren't wrong.
Came here to say this. Ideally, you put the game away early enough that you can run out the clock/protect the ball. That's gonna skew the ratio for us simply because we beat the crap out of a lot of teams. In this game, Oregon St was beaten fairly quickly so we got to give some of the young RBs some carries, which is nice to see with the new redshirt rule.
I hope Urban is cleared(and for the right reasons), but I do think its interesting to speculate on who the next head coach could be if he is fired.
I like Ryan Day and think he was the right choice for interim head coach while this investigation is going on. I think Schiano and Wilson would have to be heavily considered simply because they are already in the program and have HC experience.
I'm with you on 311. I absolutely love a handful of their songs, but some of their stuff is just plain boring.
And elite vision, elite pass blocking, and elite receiving ability for a RB....who also happens to be 250 and run a 4.5. Dude is a physical freak, with a high football IQ.
4.4 is probably too fast for him imho. I think he is a 4.45-4.55 kinda guy, but more likely in the 4.5 range. He doesn't have elite speed, but he has more than enough to break off big runs.
Austin Mack has 1st round potential, KJ Hill will most definitely be drafted(not sure where, but could see him as a 3-5th round guy), Parris Campbell will be drafted, McLaurin has a chance at being drafted, Johnnie Dixon has a chance at being drafted, and Ben Victor with a couple extra pounds will most certainly be on an NFL roster at some point. No offense to Corey Brown, but if he can make it in the NFL(and put together some solid seasons) I have no doubt all of the guys I listed above can at least make an NFL roster.
I'm not saying these guys will all be successful NFL WR's, but you're a fool if you don't think our WR room is loaded with talent. With a pass-oriented QB running the show they have a chance to put up good numbers. We are deep at WR, we might lack some of the top-end talent(although, I'd disagree with that to some extent), but we sure as hell have a lot of guys who have the talent to play in the NFL. I don't get the whole narrative that our WR's aren't good. It seems to me we simply have too many guys with similar skill sets, and none of them have been able to consistently prove they are better than the other guys. We could have a lot worse problems at WR imho.
I personally think Burrow or Haskins would have been a better QB for OSU last year, however, looking at it from Meyer's perspective Barrett was a proven winner and despite underperforming in some big games played great for us for a long time. Imagine being in Meyer's shoes, if you bench JT and whoever starts in his place doesn't play well all hell would break loose.
