I've always thought they were corny. As much as I love Meyer I think it was his way of trying to be hip and cool and they are just plain bad. Used to love the hive, but I understand he wanted his on thing. I'm not sure even the players like doing them.
Joe Germaine duh?! Rose bowl 96 come back drive anyone?
Feels like he signed on national signing day like yesterday. Good luck Vonn!
Come on Zeke, love ya.. But you didn't know your license was suspended but you were driving around with a passport? Yeah....
That USC game was the game where I was done with Tressel. You could see him playing not to lose from the second quarter on. I never sat in a stadium where every fan could tell what a choke job this game was about to come. Punting from the opponents 28 yard line twice and kicking a field goal from the one freaking yard line with a 6'6" 240 pound QB. I never left a game so mad. And of course Barkley a true freshman converts on a sneak twice that game, something Tress should have had Pryor do.
Yeah Tressel as a mentor and leader of men, but his offenses except for 2005-2006 for the most part were very blah. Like I said he would win a game 10-7 and think nothing off it. Great for stats but hard for fans to sit through.
Yeah I completely forgot Meyer won his 2006 title with Zook's players. One could say Tressel won a title with Coopers players showing that recruiting the talent isn't the all end all.
Its interesting cause I think the MSU game this year would have been a classic Tressel game with a victory but then you take the sugar bowl vs Bama and I think we would have not seen the same result if Tressel coached that team, especially when down 21-6 at one point.
No doubt, one thing Tressel was so loyal to his assistants which I think hurt development, no way you get the number one QB in the history of OSU and you have a video coordinator coaching him. I remember times we had Gonzo, Ginn, Hartline on the field together and would score one TD all afternoon. One credit to Tressel is he found a lot of hidden gems like James, Malcom, got guys like Coleman, Boom drafted that weren't highly recruited.
To early to tell how many of Meyers recruits from OSU will pan out in the pros but I would be interested to know how many of his Florida and Utah players are still in the league compared to Tressel's. That's what's so impressive about Tressel's talent is most iof his players are still in the league.
Just crazy all the playmakers and still you could walk away from a win under Tressel's watch feeling so empty inside lol.
Great hire, not only is he a great defensive coach as he coached Miami's 99-2000 defenses and DB coach for the Bears, but he can be a guy Urban bounces ideas around with from his head coaching days. Never hurts to have experience in the room.
I think most fans were harder on the coaching staff than they ever were on the players, at least I was.
People forget in 98, if that stupid QB for Arkansas doesn't trip over his own feet against UTenn in the last minute, OSU is in the title game vs FSU.
I think that is going to be the problem most years is Scum, MSU , PSU and OSU will be battling it out where a team like Whisky will be in. So does the committee do like this year and say well Whisky made the championship game and the east team with one loss didn't. It's crap. You can't tell me there isn't years in the sec where the second best team isn't better then the conference champion in the ACC. They keep saying conference championship doesn't remain everything but two years in it does.
Yeah I'm guessing if roles were reversed and Bama lost on a last second field goal to a top 5 team and them smashed auburn the media would be saying how great the sec is and Bama should get in.
And all of Oklahoma's big wins came against back up QB's.
No matter how you slice it, it stinks that a defending champion loses on a last second field goal and not only do you not get to defend your title you don't even get to play in your own conference title! OSU would have been better off losing to Rutgers. That's where we are in this system. Lose to a bad team like va tech or texas, no problem. Did you won your conference, oh ok you're in.
Notre Dame is a good team gents... They should have beat Stanford and could have beat Clemson. Their front 7 is legit and we know how up and down our offensive line has been. Mobile QB, think Indiana and msu giving us fits. Think Bucks win but I wouldn't be over confident.
My only complaint is I have a hard time believing if Bama lost to a top ten team on a last second field goal in crappy weather that they would be getting left out. I know you only have so many spots but has there ever been a defending champ that not only got shut out of their own conference title but didn't get to defend their title from one misstep. If you remember Bama lost to LSU in the regular season and was still given the chance to play in the title. Most title teams have one loss, yet OSU is completely shut out. New era I guess.
Did you guys see at the end if the OSU game he was running around the shoe taunting the crowd, after he didn't even play in the game? You can tell he holds the fact OSU didn't give his sorry arse a chance coming outbid high school personally.
That is the part that stinks, think about it, had Ohio State lost to say Indiana but beat MSU they would be in the title game with inside track to the playoff. They are being penalized for having one loss to a good team. Lose to a scrub who isn't in contention and you are fine. Kinda broken system.
If UNC beats Clemson and MSU beats Iowa, which both could really happen I truly believe you will see a final four of:
those thinking the committee wouldn't take two from the same conference are living in the past, remember it's their job to pick the four best teams period. Yes conference championships play in to that however they also are smart enough to know a last second field goal prevented OSU from even having a chance at a conference title. Add in I think USC will beat Stanford, who would you put in place of the bucks? UNC? Not happening. Clemson, maybe.
Not much the offensive line can do when teams stack 9 men in the box and force us to throw. Our recievers rarely get separation other then Thomas. I was the biggest supporter of JT getting the start back but if all they are going to do is run JT left, JT right then it doesn't matter who they put back there. Teams know exactly what Meyer is going to do and he has to develop a passing game in the off season.
Urban wants a guy to run HIS offense, not some pass happy Art Briles stuff. A coordinator who comes in, learns Meyers philosophy and runs the ship.
