They were the only ones who had the truth about the Smith Saga.  I think that's what led them to believe this would be a success.

Simply put, you cannot compete with a station that gets all of the local relevant sports (OSU Football, OSU Basketball, the Jackets, etc.)

All of this too.  Make the first rows fans only.  No corporate giveaways until you get to row 10 or so.

And a lot of that is coming from Ohio State openly catering to wealthy foreign students, e.g. wealthy Chinese kids.  That's fine if you want to do it, but they don't give a damn about OSU football or basketball.  they're coming here so they can go home and their families can brag that their kids were "educated in America" (our university system is very admired worldwide).

Let’s be honest: Fields’ case is not all that great, either.  By the accounts I have read, a student called Fields a racial epithet. Once. And they expelled that student. Where’s his hardship?

Tate has always seemed like a punk to me. Attitude has always mattered more than talent, and Tate's attitude sucks.  Period.  It always has and I have never cared for him.

He led with the crown of the helmet

Nope.  He led with the upper front of the helmet.

Look at the sketch here and tell me that was leading with the "crown"

Are you suggesting that if only there were 8 games, OSU could have challenged Clemson or Alabama? I absolutely don't think so at all. And if we're honest, we all know that Bama and Clemson were head and shoulders above everyone else.

The same Clemson that plays in the garbage ACC, and who barely held on versus NC State and Syracuse?

Ohio State absolutely could have challenged either of those teams.  Are you contending that Clemson is head and shoulders above Alabama who is head and shoulders above everybody else?  Because those teams are great, but they aren't that great.

The Title Game shows that coaching is what matters.  Ohio State recruits at the same level as these two teams, so it would have come down to whether Urban had Saban's number.  Dabo did it, so it's completely possible.

Yes, good!  I had that memory too!  But I do not remember when it was changed.  I remember watching a game and saying, "wait...that's not the rule...I thought there was an 'egregious' kind versus an 'incidental' kind."

I don't understand why you get rid of that.  I don't think it's that hard to interpret an egregious hit.  They used to do this with face masks:  there was an incidental and a 'flagrant' kind.  It worked.  Never understood why they got rid of that one, either.

That ejection sticks out in my mind as the one that turned me against the targeting rule.  Now that I am looking at it, it's even more egregious he was ejected.  That was not targeting.  And if I recall correctly, Spielman was defending the ejection on air, and I was going crazy.

exactly. everyone thought all year Alabama was this unstoppable juggernaut and Clemson made it looks easy.  it's possible that Ohio State might have had Saban's number too.  and everyone roots for underdogs in places like the NCAA tournament, so why not get some Cinderella stories in there?  maybe Northwestern upsets OSU and Northwestern gets a shot at say, playing UCF, in this hypothetical tournament.  Who wouldn't cheer for that?  I would be rooting for Northwestern in the scenario.

while technically you are right, look at the size of the bounties: most of them were in the $100-$500 range.  I think it was more about bragging rights and motivating than it was about payment.  If you wanted to pay players to take out opposing players, the bounties need to be $10,000 minimum.

So, given that the Championship games are not going away, and I think we want them to matter...

Why not make it "win and you're win" with respect to P5 Conference Championship games?

I do not understand the argument (not saying you are making it) that we cannot have automatic bids. Why not?  That's how it works in professional sports - win your division and you get to go to the playoffs.  The three remaining spots can be called "Wild Cards", just like we do in all (American) professional sports.

Way too raw?  I don't even know what that means.  He has great pocket awareness, knows how to do his progressions...you can't be "raw" and do what he did this season.  Also, he would be a fool to pass up going Top 5 in the draft to risk another year here - ask Cardale how that worked out.

Not to be overly confrontational, but can you give me some examples of his rawness?

I believe you are correct.

Hell I change jobs every few years before people catch on that, yes, I am intelligent, but I am also super-lazy.

He's not coming back, folks.

You're reading way too much into the comment.  He's saying "you can't be another quarterback wearing #7 because I made that my number."

He is not coming back.  And that's OK.

I think it is off to a good start, but I do not count "new coach" as a positive.  I HOPE it ends up being a positive, but losing the guy who won 91% of the time and beat Michigan for seven straight years is not a positive for me.

Sorry for the negativity, and am I sure you mean well, as in, "gosh this whole thing is exciting and the new coach and Justin Fields and whatnot", but I am still in the dumps over losing Urban.  I feel like it should have been a bigger bummer for the fan base than it was.
