I have been very impressed with Baron Browning; quick, good reads, showing confidence, positioning, and hitting holes hard. Tuff has been playing well too, but I think Baron has that extra step getting to the outside. That is going to be crucial as the competition gets better in this big ten gauntlet. Great job to both thus far and we need them to keeping pushing.
I think we have one of the best DB units in the country right now. As long as the LB play is at least mediocre then it will show. Last year the DB unit took a lot of hits because of the guys in front of them. That lack in trust was a slippery slope.
Paris is crucial, but seems like he may be slipping. I hope I am wrong because he will be a fan favorite.
Agreed. I do not think Day is same relationship builder that Urban was. This may be his downfall in future, but only time will tell.
Agree 100%. It is all about the show on tour. Clemson/Dabo have done an amazing job at making the 'Clemson experience' a game-changer, not to mention how aesthetically pleasing they have made the facilities.
J.T and Cardale in burnt orange is the coaches taking advantage of them for recruiting purposes. Why wouldn't they take a photo without those hoodies? They were asked to by Herman and company to wear them. If those coaches really gave damn about Cardale/J.T they wouldn't have put them in that position....
We need all the linemen we can get and congrats to Trey for earning his spot.
Side note: if the Buckeyes make it to the playoffs this year (they have the talent) then the media will be praising Day and his coaching. Then top recruits will start flocking in.
IMO next year we will have arguably a team as talented as the 2015 team and I don't think Urbs will leave that. If he leaves then the next man up will look like a rockstar. So either way next year is going to be a great year for the buckeyes. Believe that.
Urban looks 1000x better than he has in previous press conferences. Hoping he is coming back to life along with the team!!
Just because an LB has the most tackles or 3rd most tackles on the team does not mean squat. I actually expect it given the opposing teams going after those weak spots. If you watch the entire LB unit, they are either A. out of position, B. frozen and confused, C. running into a block to make it look like they are doing something, or D. happen to be in right area to make a tackle.
I agree 100%, but I would also add Hilliard into mix (he loves Ohio State and plays heart out). I think this goes back to Belichick's quote to Urban, "I only want to coach guys I like. I want to coach guys I want to be around and that's it." Meyer did this with J.T. The best players play, I don't care whether they are freshman or 10-yr RS seniors, if they hustle more in practice or not, if you are a superior athlete then you play. Practice play (routine, repetitive) is very different than game play and I would expect tOSU coaches understand that.
Also, why do they not sit guys for making mistakes? If you miss a tackle then take a seat. There is not a chance that our starting LBs are so superior to those behind them that we cannot put some others in rotation.
We ABSOLUTELY do. Just watching game performance the starting 3 LBs should be: Browning, Hilliard, Harrison/Booker.
This 100%.. I felt the defense was fine and keep the buckeyes in the game for 3 qtrs. The inability to score on offensive (10 drives to final get TD) and stupid mental errors eventually took a toll on the defense which led to a meltdown in the 4th. The defense keep Purdue under 2.35 pts/drive for 3 qtrs, while the offense only scored 0.66 pts/drive (AVG of 3.5 pts/drive this year). Not saying we don't have areas to improve on defense, but the offense and that O line are IMO, why we lost that game.
Pryor has been horrible. IMO he is lacking vision, which for the most part cannot be taught. As for Bill Davis, the dude is a clown... The best LB play all season has been from Dante Booker (when he plays), Malik Harrison, Baron Browning, and Justin Hilliard. How in the world are these guys not seeing playing time!!? I love Tuf and his drive, but IMO he does not have ingredients to be Elite like the others.
Easy, our O line is too damn big. They are fine pass blocking (besides when there are quick DEs like w/Minnesota), but when it comes to getting underneath and driving the DL you need athleticism, not size and strength.
