I've spent the majority of my adult life in "other" B1G states. You know how many coaches would love to be as "mediocre" as a fired OSU coach? Just found some relevant stats. Earle was/is 21st in winning percentage all time amongst B1G coaches. 11 of those above him on the list didn't coach a game after WW2. The longest tenured coach in the league is some 50 spots back (Go Ioweegan mediocrity), and the guy many consider the best coach in college football, or at least the last 14 years (Roll Tahd), sits 60 spots behind Earl.
Buckeye fans have it good. Firing coaches after one bad season, firing coaches cause they can't beat a rival... cause they punch a Clemson kid in the throat... or lie to the NCAA about some NCAA-only-felony. Even OSU football coaching scandals pale in comparison to other league issues. No need to beat a dead Pa.
I mean, those are the standards, not the 60.9% winning percentage that got Alvarez a bust and permanent director-gig or the same percentage for Ferentz who won't ever be fired (until he punches a kid in the throat).
Looking the top end of the list over, the Pelini fire (71.2% vs Cooper's 71.5%) is still the most mis-guided firing in the league that I can recall. He called the fans morons and rednecks (they have their fair share, for a while I listened to their local homer-radio) during a conversation he didn't expect to become public...
Its great to be a Buckeye fan.
