Grew up in Marion, Oh and ushered (as a boy scout) Ohio state games during 1979-1981 seasons. I graduated from Marion Harding in ’85 and joined the Navy. After six years of active duty, I got out of the Navy and settled in the Virginia Beach /Chesapeake area. Just like all of you on here, I love the Bucks!

It HAS been a great seven years with the buffoonery that we have seen in the head coaches of Meatchicken, and It may soon come to and end.

But take heart my fellow Buckeyes, if Dave Brandon survives another year... Lane Kiffin is available for a head coaching job.

What a coup it would be to "steal" the current " SEC" offensive coordinator from Alabama, right?

Did I mention "SEC"?

Good news if you do prefer your halftime analysis delivered in the form of a borderline-senile, blathering senseless Buckeye bashing man: Mark May…    A little more truthful?

ok, ok in the spirit of Woody, as long as you fill'er up before you cross that border and try not to buy any more while you are in that God forsaken place! I've only be there once when I was 5 yrs old for a wrestling tournament. Don't remember much, but I do remember telling a kid I was getting ready to wrestle, who was from there, that I was going to beat him because he was from there.

I understand and agree somewhat, my hate of all things Pittsburgh is not as great as yours and maybe my standard of what a rival game should be is a little high. I grew up going to OSU games in the 70’s and I know what it felt like back then when THE GAME had a little more relevance than it has had in the last few years.
I just think that if Wicky falls back into the mediocrity that it was in before Alvarez gave them the identity that they have now or if O’Brien has a few off years where we take a commanding lead in the series against PSU then the Rivalry that is growing between us will quickly be forgotten. In a good rivalry, the passion and hate for each other will not fad.

Thanks Doc,

I have respect for Barry Alvarez and how he turned around the Wisky program. (but I could not stand Bert Bellamy.) I have respect for O’Brien and how he has held the nittany lions together. I will befriend someone from Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
I loth anyone who has been the head coach of meatchiken  be it Bo, LLLLLoyd, Rich Rod or the current tub of lard, I will not break bead with or befriend someone who is a SCum fan nor do I travel in that dammed land to the north.
For me that is what a rivalry is all about.

Doc, I understand what you are saying and to answer your question, I’m pissed off when we lose no matter WHO we lose to. PSU fans look at it as one of the biggest games they play all year, that’s no different than any other B1G team, beating OSU can make a season for any B1G team.  For me it’s just another game.

My point is that no other rivalry, not just in college football but all sports, is as great or has the history as the one we have with that dammed hunk of land up to the north. As states we have hated each other since the 1835-6 Toledo war, once we started playing football against each other in the late 1800’s that hate we have naturally manifested itself as the rivalry we have today. Sure, we can call other games like Penn State a ”rivalry” but I cannot fathom it being even close to level that THE GAME is at, and to me that is the Gold standard of what a rivalry is. I HATE us losing to anyone equally except for those (insert explicative here) up north, that ruins a season for me like no other loss and why Cooper drove me nuts.
For me, for it to be a true rivalry it takes a few decades, a lot of pain inflicted on both sides and the dashing of national title hopes after a game.  Now, some of this is taking shape with PSU but think it needs more time.

The Ohio State game is essential to Penn State's Big Ten history.

It is a much bigger deal for PSU fans than for us …   As Ohio State fans, we grew up with a true dislike for “the whole state of Michigan” that has been a part of being a buckeye since our states almost fought a border war when they were formed. Our hate for each other is passed from generation to generation. We know what a true rivalry feels and looks like, PSU is not it. It might become a “rivalry” as time goes on, but it is not THE GAME that we know is one of the best rivalries in history.

Blood must be spilled if Ohio State is truly vested in reaching the stadium where Wisconsin's been going each January since Bauserman was only 25. That has got to stop.

The Bucks need to do this quickly and cleanly in the first quarter and never look back.  As far as Wisky being King of the B1G, I say off with their heads!  Sorry, after reading this article with so many references to a kingly reign, I could not help myself.

Chris, I’m sure none of us in the Eleven Warrior community know what sacrifices you guys make to bring us the absolute, hands down, best coverage and not just coverage but entertaining commentary too! Many times I’m reading and can’t believe what great articles you guys bring to us every day. I know you hear this a lot, but thank you so much for what you do!

Yes, Rest up Miller this week because Wisky is going to throw everything they have at us. This is the B1G opener for us, but for Wisconsin it is a chance to knock off the best team in the B1G conference.

but we don't want to skip the opportunity to remind you that his mouth has more sides than a dodecagon. Look it up.

Thanks, that made me laugh.

Nice Write up, I have been fuming over how OSU was treated just a few short years ago to how they are reacting (or lack of it) to pretty much the same thing.   I'll get over it quick, but it just amazes me!  I understand that they are worn out after accusing OSU of everything they could think of, but come on, are sports writers this shallow? Yes!

It was great to root for the Zips. It will be interesting to see the adjustments meatchicken will make going forward, they looked decent enough playing N. dame but after playing the Zips, the luster is gone.

Thank you for a this well articulated article. There are very nasty people in this world and I think it is their right to be who they want to be, just not going to be my friend.  If you are in the public spotlight and inside you are ugly and it comes out stand by for the public backlash.
