Grew up in Carlisle Ohio, near Dayton. Left after H.S. for the Army. I'm now retired and living in North Carolina (Burlington). Not doing to much now, playing pool in an APA league for fun, raising my kids, and I never miss a Buckeyes game!! LOL! I miss Ohio, I know the weather here is nice and all...BUT OHIO WILL ALWAYS BE MY HOME!

Also saw that Day and Hafley offered the 2020 #6 CB and #53 overall recruit Clark Phillips out of California. Brian Hartline also gave out a couple offers to a couple Missouri players in the 2021 class. A DE Travion Ford and a DT Gabriel Rubio. I know this is about 2020 but with no Hurry up right now just thought I'd share that.

Saw over on 247 there's an article saying something about Mattison helping in the recruiting connections with Rylie Mills, #8 SDE out of Illinois that states #2 player in 2020. Couldn't read the article as I'm not a member. Looked up his rating he's a 4* with a 0.9467 rating. It seems the crystal balls have him going to ND right now. If someone has access to the article would be interested in what it said, this is the first I've heard of the kid.

Nebraska actually may have hit a home run with Frost, I really do think he will get Nebraska back to National relevance. Certainly he will have them at the upper tier of the BIG West sooner rather than later in my opinion. I think we will see them in Indianapolis within the next 3 years. Now will the be able to win the BIG against the Buckeyes or a team from the East that was able to best the Buckeyes coming out of the East? We'll see!

Please God No!!! And shame on you Hove for even putting that into the ether of the universe!!! I don't want him anywhere near TTUN, he may actually make the rivalry a rivalry again, and I'm happy with The Game being an annual bastion of glory for OSU where we relax for 364 days in the salty sweetness of ×ichigan men's tears! LOL

True statement about some of our best OL being in state 3*, you don't even need to go back but a couple seasons to find proof.
Comment 22 Jan 2019
Out checking on Turner and then off to see Hatchett today as well? Dang Day puttin in the work for that OL today! I hope we can get a big Defensive player soon, we need to break the ice on that side of the ball now that our staff is set. The Offense looks like its shaping up to be a Holy Crap class, but not one D commit yet? Not panicking but just seems strange.

While I agree the staff should turn over every rock nationwide and recruit every top talent that fits our system and culture to build the best team possible. I would point out that Tressel was pretty damn successful! He did win a Natty against a Miami team everyone thought was unbeatable. Also got us to 3 NC games in his 10 years when only the 2 best teams in the country were invited. More importantly the Natty that Urban won was with a good bit of the guys recruited by Tressel! Just saying.

Seems like the last several times I've watched the women's team they bring in Lloyd around the 60ish minutes mark for a late game surge. Not sure why she isn't starting? Maybe trying not to stress her legs at this point? Dang we just about gave up another goal.

I agree the CB situation has me puzzled as well. We were talking about that just up above in the thread, with the early exits, tranfers, in such we are at 84 scholarship players maybe 83 soon if Jones does decide to leave. If we get to 83 Nester and one more OL prospect put us at 85. There will certainly be a lil more roster attrition between now and the fall, so I was also thinking at least one CB should be recruited. Or an athletic DB who could play corner or safety? I brought up Devonshire who we had been in on, but Northbrook pointed out that we have backed off him and all signs point towards him staying home and going to Pitt. Maybe we could get back in on him? Or maybe there is another available quality CB out there we could really get after? Not sure, but the depth doesn't look terrible, Arnette, Okudah and Wade will certainly be the starting rotation. And with Banks and Johnson behind them and a guy like Riep who is capable of playing Safety and corner especially at the nickle spot I think our depth is more than adequate for the next couple of years. Obviously Arnette is gone after next season, most likely Okudah will be to as I expect he will truly shine next season as a full time starter with plenty of experience. Wade on the other hand I'm not so sure will leave, if he ends up supplanting Arnette as the starting CB opposite of Okudah...then yea he gone too! If not, I see him coming back the following year where he would be the Top Dog in the CB room and possibly a team captain by that point? I don't think its crucial we need one in the 2019 class, in other words we shouldn't settle for a not elite level guy or a guy with tons of ability and upside, however it is strange we don't have one in the class. If we don't take one this class, then yes we absolutely need to get 2 absolutely top guys in2020.

I agree! If any asst coach ever deserved a 1 million dollar or more salary at OSU it Larry Johnson!!
Comment 19 Jan 2019
Yea that's him, couldn't remember his name. I just think its strange we don't have any CB's in the class. I know we have a lot of talent coming back next year and not really worried about depth invthe DB area really just seems strange not to have one in the class. Arnette, Okudah and Wade should make a great starting rotation and with the other guys like Riep still onvthe team we have the depth not to take one I guess?

Thanks Nortbrook, and to Spooner, NH and 992 as well. I figured there had to be some scholly space opening up. I figured we would try to bring in at least Nester and one other OL, was hoping it may open up space for a CB like the kid from Alaquipa in Pittsburgh or another really good prospect at corner? Didn't really explain that clearly before, LOL. that is a good point about another QB to.

Well next season our best OOC game is against UC, which I would argue is still better than Bama's Power5 opponent which is Duke. And to be fair this isnt Ohio States fault, we should be playing TCU at home but Patterson was scared to play us 2 years in a row and cancelled the home and home for a "Neutral Site" game just down the road from their campus. So we had to find a last minute replacement for next year. Also we don't have any FCS schools on our schedule...so no chicken shit Saturday for us to get healthy for TTUN. Also we will play and 9 conference opponents as opposed to 8 for Bama which gives us an extra cross over game. Our cross over games are much better opponents than Bama's 2 cross over games. We have to face Nebraska(who started playing much better towards the end of the season, and will most likely be much improved in year 2 under Frost), Northwestern who won the west and have only lost like 3 games to conference opponents in the last 2 years, and Wisconsin who let's face it is better than most SEC schools. Yes I would definitely put TTUN and PSU on the same level as LSU and Auburn. I actually think TTUN, PSU, Wisconsin and Northwestern are better than Auburn and at least as good as LSU. Northwestern just has to quit shitting the bed at the beginning of the season if they want to get the actual respect they deservee if they put just play a whole season like they do from week 6 on. I will concede that PSU may take a step back next year do to all the attrition to their roster plus possible transfers. However I think Wisky is in for a big rebound year. Also, I think MSU will improve from last year, how much remains to be seen. Indiana will be Indiana, a 6 win team maybe. Maryland is a program on the rise, don't make the mistake of not repecting them as an opponent. Everyone wants to point to our game against them this year as a bad game for us. I disagree, that team has talent, don't forget they beat Texas, 2 years in a row! The same Texas team that beat Oklahoma this year. The same Texas team that beat Georgia! If not for all the turmoil of losing a team mate, coaching craziness, I believe Maryland couldve really broke out this past season. Point is Bama's schedule is a freaking joke. At least we have several very good opponents- UC, Maryland, Nebraska, Northwestern, MSU, Wisconsin, PSU and TTUN...those 8 games right there are a much tougher 8 best opponents than Bama's best 8 games. And our crap games dont include any FCS schools. Just sayin..

Haven't seen another thread on this, but didn't want to create a duplicate either. Plus I think this thread is a good place to ask and discuss my question anyway. With the early departures for the draft, the guys we have in the transfer portal/ transferred already( Jones, Martel, etc) what are our #'s looking like right now for scholarship players? And has it opened up room to maybe look for more than a couple more OL guys for 2019?
Comment 17 Jan 2019
I doubt they lose 3 games while playing 2 Group of 5 schools like New Mexico and Southern Miss. Their OOC Power 5 game is DUKE, LOL! A division schedule that includes the likes of Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Miss State, Arkansas, cross over games with Tennessee and South Carolina....throw in Chicken shit Saturday against Western Carolina? The only 2 actual decent teams on their schedule will be LSU and Auburn. So where do the 3 losses come from? Sadly ESPN and the CFP Committee will still find a way to say that's a brutal schedule????? Give me a break! The only real top team they will see will be in the SEC title game which will more than likely be Georgia again because let's face it the SEC in reality is a to Horse conference with 4 or 5 good mid level teams and a bunch of overhyped bad teams that get looked at as being much better than the actually are because of Alabama's dominance and the perceived dominance of all that is SEC football. Pre-season rankings will probably have 9 SEC schools ranked which will make that schedule look better than it is. In actuality the SEC should probably have 5 maybe 6 ranked teams. Only 2 will truly deserve a top 10 ranking but they will have at least 3 maybe 4 and probably at least 5 in the top 15. It's rediculous, and they will use those BS rankings to show the ranked teams they beat, when come the end of the year a team who will start ranked like 20th like South Carolina will be lucky to win 7 games and thats counting FCS and Group of 5 teams they played? It boggles my mind!! LOL, Off my soap box now!

That was my point befor Jarrett and Fleming get to Ohio State(assuming the pic the good guys, please yes!) All those guys will be gone.

I still think Haskell Garrett is gonna be really good, he's just been stuck behind some older guys that were very talented in their own rights and further along in their development and had already proven themselves. I still see big things for him ahead. I wasn't scared of our team with Tate beingbthe guy next year either, but we'll never know now. Happy with Baldwin or Fields moving forward as well.

I agree, this kid is lightning in a bottle. You can see it every time he gets the ball he is a big play waiting to happen. He has been working and doing what's asked and hasn't truly seen the pay off yet, yet! He could have transferred and probably started somewhere like UC but being a Buckeye means a lot to him. I know we have to go National in recruiting to get the best team possible, to stay at the upper tier of the FBS, but we also need guys from Ohio with this kind of heart who grew up bleeding Scarlet and Gray! We need to keep the best in Ohio at Ohio State, especially in the trenches. When going out in recruiting obviously you dont turn down a 5* for an in State kid that isn't rated the same, but when you are looking at an OOS 4* rated at 96.33 and an in state kid at 94.9 is there really that big of a difference? I can tell you one difference for sure 99.9999% of the time being a Buckeye and representing the great State of Ohio will mean so much more to that kid. He will fight harder for it! He won't leave because he doesn't start right away, he will put in the work and fight harder. There are tons of examples, Pat Elflein, Sam Hubbard, Billy Price, Darron Lee and many more weren't necessarily the highest rated guys coming out of HS but it would be hard to argue thatbthey weren't some of our besr and most influential players. It also would be hard to argue that being a Buckeye didn't mean absolutely everything to those guys. I hope McCall gets his chance to go out and show what he can do, every time he's been in a game he's made big plays, you can see he is a playmaker. I'm not sure why he hasn't been given more opportunities at this point but it's obvious how much he wants to be a Buckeye and get on the field. Hopefully this fall we all get to see him used meaningfully and show out!

With a new HC in Day who is truly The Man in charge of a program for the first time, and so much coaching turnover(although I do think that turnover will be an improvement) I'm keeping my "expectations" in check. I do expect us to be good and finsh the year in the top 10 at a minimum just because of the amount of talent on the team. So I'll just keep my hopes with this... 1) Beat TTUN 2) Get Better every week 3) Don't lose to a team far inferior to the Buckeyes 4) Get to Indy by any means necessary, and Win the BIG! 5) Be in consideration for the CFP 6) Lock down a top 3 recruiting class for 2020 7) Win whatever Bowl/post season game we end up in If we can do that in Day's first year my hopes will be answered and every year after that I will start having big expectations. And if by some chance we get into the CFP? SWING, SWING, SWING!!! Take advantage of it!
