I can certainly understand the declining attendance. I was a long time loyal ticket buyer (and loud and noisy fan), but OSU's policy on Alumni tickets changed and the prices increased steeply for tickets (that I had to pay for with no idea of what game or date I was buying) with lousy seats. The dollar trumped Alumni loyalty. I now watch the games on my big screen TV with friends, eat our own delicious gourmet foods and have my own personal bathroom. I miss the game day experience at the 'Shoe, but I'm still having a great time with a larger group of family and friends! It saddens me to see all the empty corporate and season ticket seats, and to read all the comments about the quiet fans - but I guess the total dollar income is better....
Well, Urban Meyer highly recommended Day and called him an "elite coach". Urban knows more about coaching and Day than I do, so I think I'll put money with Urban's...... :-)
Good grief. I get so tired of hearing people bash a player who gave his heart and soul to Ohio State - and set a lot of records in the process.
If people want to bash someone, bash the coaches who got paid to make the decisions of who would play. You know, the coaches that get paid a lot of money - because they know more about football and the players on the team than any of us do. Don't bash the kids that gave their hearts and souls and sacrificed their bodies,(including breaking bones) - and weren't paid other than a scholarship.
Can't people find positive things to say about these kids? You know, "Once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye".
I'll show myself out and won't come back to watch my down votes or read the bashing........
All of us, as fans, have our opinion and you are certainly entitled to yours. No disrespect to you or Fields, but comparing Fields to Labron James seems a little over the top to me. I know Fields is good, but that good? Time will tell. Baldwin is also good and has had a year in the system and is growing and developing well also. We are certainly fortunate as Ohio State fans!
Coach Day has not declared Fields the starter yet. I think I'll just wait until the coaches have watched all the practices and evaluated the competition. In the meantime, I'll cheer them both on.
I think I'll let the coaches decide who starts, based on their evaluations of the competition.
I find it a bit tiresome for writers and fans to declare Fields the starter over Baldwin, when Day has clearly not made that decision, and has in fact said that the position has to be earned. I'll respect each player for what they earn and for their performance in the competition. Let's cheer them all on and wish each of them the best. They are all Buckeyes and we owe them our respect - and the opportunity to show what they can do, before a starter is named.
I'll show myself out now, thank you............ :-)
I agree. Coach Day will make the decision after Baldwin and Fields have a chance to compete and show what they can do. We should not annoint Fields as the starter before the quarterbacks have a chance to compete and show what they can do. In the meantime, I hope 11W will give equal coverage to Baldwin. I look forward to reading balanced reporting on both quarterbacks and how the competition is going thru the spring practices and Spring Game - and also in the fall. Let's follow Coach Day's lead and watch the competition. Baldwin is still in the running and we need to recognize that. Embrace the competition!
Why is it that some people feel the need to criticize, belittle, and trash kids who have come to Ohio State to play football and give it their all? JT did what was asked of him - and gave his heart and soul to Buckeye Nation. I respect and appreciate everything he did for us. I'll always remember him putting the team on his back and carrying us to a win at Penn State. If some feel it necessary to be upset at that, they should be trashing the coach who made the decision to play him, not JT. What happened to the "Once a Buckeye, Always a Buckeye" motto? I feel it is so much better as a fan to show respect and appreciation to these young men who come to OSU, instead of the disrespect and even hatred that so many on here seem to express. I've said my two cents worth - I'll show myself out and not stick around to argue the point further.
I agree 100%. Fields knows nothing of the OSU play book and hasn't proven anything at the college level. Tate has put in a lot of work for OSU, knows the playbook, and has built solid relationships and trust with the other players. In my mind, he is "next man up". I loved his response during the Rose Bowl interview. Competition is good, but I think he's the QB until someone can beat him out. Not easy to do. Steel will sharpen steel.
I think a "President in Waiting" to replace Drake would be a good idea.
I don't think any of us knows who will "make the most fans happy". There are large numbers of fans who also think Burrow should be "the guy". And no matter who is named the starter, he will "have to play nearly 100% flawless next season to keep the masses from screaming". It's the nature of the fans to criticize anyone who makes a mistake and loses a game.
Personally, I hope Burrow gets the nod. He looked to me like he has earned it, by the performances of all three yesterday.
We have to admit that OSU has three very good quarterbacks. It is going to be a difficult decision for the coaches. And even they may have chances to second guess themselves at some point in the season, no matter who is selected. Oh, the problems we have at OSU.......... :-)
I'm going to be happy with whoever the coaches select, and cheer the guy on to greatness!
Bingo. This. Exactly! Burrow could very well be our best QB. 11W should not be appointing Haskins as the winner of the competition yet. The coaches have some tough decisions ahead. Let's recognize and applaud all 3 young men who are competing!
And we do not have any idea how good Joe Burrow is either - except we know that he was JT's backup until he got hurt. I hope we have a good and fair competition between all 3 QBs. Tough decisions for the coaches ahead. Very premature for fans or journalists to declare a winner at this point.
I don't understand 11W's articles all being so biased towards Haskins. I like him, but I also like Joe Burrow and Tate. I want there to be a good competition between three very talented guys. I think Burrow is every bit as talented as Haskins - he was the backup to JT before he hurt his hand. He deserves a fair shot at the starting job and "equal time" in the 11W articles. Let the coaches who see all three QBs in practice every day use their experience and training to evaluate and rank the 3 great young men who are competing. Let's applaud and encourage all three!
Buck68 - Thank you for a concise and understandable analysis! Good points - And directly to the point. More of this, please!
One up vote to help you along! You will enjoy this site!
I won't down vote you, but please go to the OSU locker room and trash JT there. When you're done criticizing JT, ask the players to support you in an effort to replace our incompetent Coach who showed such bad judgement in playing JT! Maybe you can impress them enough with your leadership skills that they will ask Gene Smith to put you in as Coach!
I respect everyone's right to their own opinions - but to come on this site and piss all over a young athlete who has just played his final game for OSU is a tad too much for an grouchy old fart like me...........
I simply love JT. He is a great athlete, but also is humble, has an admirable character, is a great leader, respectful, and has done everything the coaches have asked of him - and more. I know he has his critics and some of his passes could have been better - but the man is a flat out competitor and winner. I am proud of him and would welcome him into my family in a second, if I could. God Bless You, JT - and I hope to watch and follow you in a wonderful career and life after tOSU!
I think! this is an excellent idea! Come on, BTN (+ESPN and others!), let's have a show that highlights the many great bands in college football!
And, no, I was not a member of any band - but I do appreciate the performances and the music they bring to the games!
Can anyone tell me why I can play the whole YouTube segment, but I can not play the short "best 58 seconds" clips? All I get is a black screen that say "The media could not be played". This happens to me frequently on the11W website, and rarely anywhere else. I can often play some video in an article, but not other videos in the same article. Any help would be appreciated! I've wondered if it might be because I don't do twitter?
USA Today has a poll where you can vote if you think the ref's spot of the ball on JT's 4th and 1 run was correct or not correct. You can vote in this article: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/11/fourth-down-spot-ohio-state-michigan-double-overtime
I went to the twitter link and still got the message that "The media could not be played". Thanks for trying to help! I only have this problem on 11W - sometimes in the same article, I can play one video, but not another. Wish I knew what to do about it!
Can someone help me out here? This video will not play on my laptop - all I get is a black screen and a message that "This video cannot be played". But other some other videos in 11Warriors will play. I assume that different formats are being used. I REALLY want to watch this video! Do I need to download another program to watch it? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Speaking of festivals.............check out 2nd Annual Appalachian Bacon Nation Festival in Coshocton this Saturday. Lots of bacon-themed food dishes, a bacon eating contest, music, 5K race, kids activities and more. They will even have the Ohio State game playing in the festival area, so you can eat bacon and watch OSU! Have to hand it to the festival organizers for making sure the OSU game is playing for us! Here's a link: http://www.appalachianbaconnation.com/
I think she is just an outgoing, fun person. She supported her son in his interest in football. She became active as a "football mom" to support the team and help the young men (many away from home and family) on the OSU team. She has shown a lot of love and support to the team. Looks to me like the players and the staff all love her. So, if the media has picked up on the fact that she is an outgoing, fun, supportive and loving person - and written a few nice articles about her.........well, I don't have any problem with that. I don't feel like she has "forced her way into the public eye". Personally, I feel it is a tribute to the OSU staff regarding the type of players they are recruiting - including a family background with supportive, loving parents. I don't recall many off-field issues involving Eli Apple. I can see why ESPN offered her a job. I doubt that she "forced herself" on ESPN.
I find that talking to myself is often the only way I can have an intelligent conversation............ :-)
