By enclosed I meant the permanent south stands were built. Before, they were temporary and so the horseshoe was still technically open. The south stands don't technically connect with the original stadium, so the horseshoe shape is still there, but it's no longer an open horseshoe.
The current record attendance was when capacity was a little higher than today. I don't know the specifics that go into capacity and ticket sales (because obviously they sell more tickets than capacity) but that's for sure an interesting point of how they crammed in 6,000 extra people.
Based on what I've read, there are a few schools who claim to have held the first ever Homecoming in the early 1900's. So, Ohio State was not far behind them. Sorry for the confusion.
