Dude you’re right...holy hell could you imagine Tressel ball with JT leading the way. He would’ve run it 30 times a game after we went up by 10 in the second quarter.
Definitely agree there, with the every other year with a top tier guy. Like you said that’s in perfect world, no injuries nor a transfer. Or just plain a QB doesn’t pan out ala Justin Zwick was hyped up and the lower tier guy ends up winning the heisman in the same class. So many variables, I don’t envy a coaches job in this day in age.
Or perhaps going with a developmental type player in 22? If we bring McCord or high ranked player in at qb for 21. Still not sure I like it, still feel a qb each year and get the best one for your program.
Be interesting to see how this transfer/portal itself plays out in the coming years. It’s fresh now but I’d have to imagine there’s going to be additional regulation upon it shortly.
Definitely agree with you on the fire with in he has, anything is possible and as you say his age. Still fairly young, since the end of the season and this interview he looks like it took five years back off. He looks much healthier than 4 months ago.
I think the situation would have to be near perfect I’d say but definitely agree with your points.
I believe that was Urban’s philosophy, whether Day is keeping that as well I hope he does. But haven’t heard for certain.
I definitely loved Tressel, and Urban when he arrived as well sort of kick started the recruiting to a more national perspective.
At the time of both of their hiring they were the perfect fit for the program. Hence I feel Day at this time is perfect style wise, I see him as a bit of Tressel on game planning and the state of Ohio and Urban as well with recruiting nationally as well. The spring game bringing the NFL players in and making it an event I feel Day was what we needed at this time. He reminds me a bit of Urban in his Florida years, with the drive and ability to make the tough decisions without being blinded by loyalty. I’m excited for the new errands.
I vote him as well with the Oklahoma State connection with Yurcich being here, I could see that communication happening.
I’ve heard people say this before as well, in my mind I cannot see it. If it does how do you see it playing out? For me I could see if Day does really well and heads to the NFL. As I don’t see Urban wanting to come in a rebuild situation at all.
As KMP said we weren’t off the map when he took over, was the perfect storm for him and us. But I guess just want to know what/why you’d see Urban back again.
Looking at his comments I think he’s beyond even that thread...
Definitely is, hell he had an offer to Iowa State and a few others. Excellent depth for walk on as well as special teams as mentioned above.
The thing I was most pleased with was the tenacity of the defense and the back 7 in particular, cbs turning around, safeties ball hawking. Just loved seeing all 11 flying around the field which seemed to be missing the past year or two. This new simplified style I think will pay off with the athletes we have recruited these past few years.
Very true between the differences of a high 3-star and low 4 star are negligible for sure, seems like a lot of these evaluations come at camps throughout the year and the kids ability to be seen by the evaluation sites and such.
One thing I also like to see with a 3 star kid is if they play other sports/competition and some of those intangibles can also make a difference on how kid is projected.
Totally agree with you there, different times though and different philosophies. Yes Tressel came in and he did overturn the culture. He did lack in national recruiting to an extent but again those were different times.
Day gets it, let’s sit back trust and watch.
Exactly....if you notice our wr recruiting has taken off under Hartline, QB under Day, and still have LJ pulling in elite lineman. We’ll be good, Henry in 20 Sawyer in 21. I do feel Najee Story will jump aboard and I don’t count us out of the 21 overall player out of Washington.
I truly hope it doesn’t either, reading Spooner’s thread reminded me of wandering to Mgoblog as all they do is complain about their recruiting and compare themselves to our recruiting.
I think Day is honestly doing a hell of a job thus far in getting high end recruits not only in the class but many have high interest in us before he has truly coached a game with his name on the program. The dude gets it and I think with success this coming year we may even see an uptick in our recruiting as one major concern towards end of Urban’s time here was the questions of how much longer he’d be here, Day’s youth and energy may even help more than Urban’s rockstar status.
Right there with you, started one for anyone wanting to talk about their frustrations with Clemson on a different thread. Love seeing 22 new posts only to find 2-3 of anything worthwhile. Hopefully this helps streamline things.
Thank you Spooner and NH and many others that provide quality info for us that don’t have the knowledge of some of the recruiting sites.
It may have happened behind the scenes and by sounds of things was a 2021 class target..still a lot of time. Spooner had mentioned it being possibly McCord, perhaps him and Harrison are planning something together. Harrison appears to be ready at any moment to bring his talents to Cbus
I know a lot of us were upset over the fact of no tackling and the actual game itself did lack that energy I think the overall atmosphere was exactly what was needed from a recruiting standpoint and trajectory of the program.
i think in the coming weeks we’ll see the fruits of the exhibition from yesterday, as fans we want to see football but I understand there’s no need to go out and get injured against our own. Everyone stayed healthy had some flashy plays and overall was exciting seeing some new faces and young guys for their first time. Day and staff crushed this out of the park with past players and the family like atmosphere with star power everywhere yesterday will go a long way for some booms.
Crap ton of money in beating OSU...Iowa actually extended Ferentz last year after the game so long that his Great grandchildren will be the Coach of Iowa in 2084 yet.
Been looking at who TTUN has coming back a few weeks ago, they’re going to be very short on depth on their D up front. Their dline by end of year could be pretty thin. I know this past year our O gashed their secondary and took advantage of our overall speed. I could see the game plan being more run oriented with tempo this year, pound away at their D wearing them down and with mobility at our qb position taking advantage of an aggressive style beating them over the top or using Field’s legs as well. Beat them up physically in their house, be nothing better to use the run game against Harbaugh lol.
It appears that it was TTUN that cooled on him, he committed prior to Gattis coming in and looking as they weren’t sold on him. The wr class is deep this year and I think we’re on much higher kids at the moment. If we’re talking tiers Branham would be 3rd tier I don’t believe we ever offered him. His film looks like he’s a step or two slow than some of the other top kids. Our wr recruiting is so high that we’re holding off on the 4 star Bunkley out of CA at the moment.
Its looking like he will be a Kentucky commit shortly. May work much better for him in all honesty
Is the McCord family still on campus leaving today or did they leave yesterday if anyone knows?
Was quietly looking for a 2021 boom and was thinking he’d be the one by all accounts.
Has anyone heard when this years Revenge tour 2.0 goes on sale???
Well yes Day May not have the credentials right off the bat but it does appear he has the emotional intelligence, football IQ, and overall understanding of the Ohio State brand. Fields had zero picks on the day, and Baldwin had two yes that were I’ll advised but hey it’s spring game/no tackling of course offense and defense will look shaky.
Its year 5 though on Harbaugh I believe not 4, regardless yes game in AA so reasonable to have optimism going in. I’m just having difficulty seeing it til it happens and I do think the Gattis play calling will take more time than what people realize. But we shall see
While those points are all valid as far as we and head coach at this point I don’t view them as question marks. Every test put in front of Day he has exceeded my expectations. I view him as a jolt of energy into the program. There is new energy around the Woody this spring, I love Urban for all he did it was time for a change though I believe.
With Fields I think he provides us with a better running attack overall, Don Browns aggressiveness doesn’t bode well if at end of year Fields and the receiving core is healthy add in Fields legs may give the defense fits. And I think our defense is going to bounce back with simplified schemes allowing our athletes to make plays. Just today seeing the interceptions, we’ve put an emphasis on that phase. I do think your offense will be improved though
