Ohio State defenseman Josh Healey is ineligible for the Buckeyes’ first round NCAA tournament match-up against Minnesota-Duluth. This is a result of Healey incurring a game misconduct in the B1G semifinal. According to NCAA law, a third game misconduct during a single season carries an automatic one game suspension.

The Big Ten today announced it was suspending Healey for another game on top of that one. The Buckeyes’ leading defensive scorer is now ineligible for the entire West regional. He will only get another chance to suit up for the Scarlet and Gray if Ohio State reaches the Frozen Four.

This is no doubt devastating news for the senior. It also makes the Bucks’ already challenging NCAA journey even tougher. OSU faces the possibility of icing only five reasonably healthy defensemen on Friday if neither Drew Brevig nor Gordi Myer is able to go. Now, should they manage to advance, no relief from that situation is imminent.

The Buckeyes and Bulldogs get underway on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The game airs live on ESPNU. I’ll have a game preview for you in the usual late afternoon spot.
