Urban Meyer Turns 53

July 10th might seem like an innocuous date on the death march through the offseason hinterlands, but it is indeed a blessed date in Buckeye lore.

Fifty-three years ago today the day, Ohio State's three-time national champion coach, Urban Frank Meyer, arrived on Earth at the old Mercy Hospital in Toledo.

After a prep career in Ashtabula, Meyer played football and baseball at the University of Cincinnati. As a post-graduate Meyer first tried his hand as a minor league player with the Atlanta Braves before then-Buckeye coach Earle Bruce offered him a graduate coaching position in 1986.

The rest, as they say, is history.
