Ohio State's win against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl was a heavyweight fight worthy of the first-ever College Football Playoff semifinal games Thursday night.
As such, people across the country tuned in. A lot of people. So many people. After ESPN got done crunching the numbers, the game had the largest audience in cable television history.
The Sugar Bowl, which started at 9 p.m., averaged 28.2 million viewers and the Rose Bowl, which featured Oregon and Florida State, averaged 28.16 million viewers.
