Ohio State plays Rutgers Saturday in a bout that’s being billed by some as the Big Ten’s Game of the Week. Today, head coach Urban Meyer went on ESPN’s SVP & Russillo show to talk his upswing Buckeyes and where they fit in college football’s big picture.

Here’s what he said: 

Urban Meyer on an upswing ohio state team: "We're not that good yet."

• Since an unexpected and equally demoralizing loss to Virginia Tech earlier this season, Ohio State’s outscoring its opponents by an average of 56-17 and looking more like the team that was projected to compete for a spot in the first-ever postseason playoff. Meyer said there’s room for improvement. "We're not that good yet,” he said before adding the Buckeyes are “nowhere near" their maximum potential. 
• Meyer said being left out of the national picture motivates Ohio State: "I'll throw that at (the team) once in a while." 
• But Meyer insists the Buckeyes aren’t looking ahead: “They're not looking down the road, they're trying to get better every day." They'll play what could be a huge game against Michigan State Nov. 8 in East Lansing.
• The Virginia Tech team that beat Ohio State and the one that lost its third game of the year to Pittsburgh Thursday night are unrecognizable. Meyer caught the game: "I had to turn it off ... we've moved on."
• Meyer on loss of star quarterback Braxton Miller: "That was a day of mourning." He added there was a "quiet confidence" in the locker room in the wake of his absence. 
• Meyer says Ohio State needs to get sophomore running back Ezekiel Elliott 15-18 carries a game
• Meyer said the speed of the game has slowed down for redshirt quarterback J.T. Barrett. Ever since a shaky outing against the Hokies, Barrett’s strong play has garnered him national recognition. Barrett is completing 66 percent of his passes for 1,354 yards and 17 touchdowns.
