It was a good day to be a defensive back at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore.

Four players from the Maryland powerhouse picked up Ohio State offers Monday, delivered by safeties coach Perry Eliano. Two players are from the 2024 class, and two are slotted in the 2025 cycle. We dive into each of the offers below.

Blake Woodby

We’ll start by discussing Ohio State offering one of the fastest-rising cornerback prospects in the 2025 class. Eliano extended an offer to Maryland prospect Blake Woodby on Monday, who called the opportunity a “dream offer” because he had watched Ohio State extensively growing up.

“It means the world to me,” Woodby told Eleven Warriors of his offer. “Just growing up watching Ohio State and seeing all the guys they produce in the league as far as cornerbacks go, it’s just an ultimate level I want to reach one day. It means the world.”

Though he only just completed his sophomore season, Woodby has picked up no shortage of Division I offers, earning 15 in total thus far. Other schools that have offered include Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, South Carolina, Tennessee and USC.

Ohio State has one player committed in the 2025 class, Georgia cornerback Jontae Gilbert. Upon seeing Woodby’s offer, Gilbert immediately started recruiting the Maryland prospect via social media.

Ify Obidegwu

Four-star 2024 prospect Ify Obidegwu was another highly-touted recruit to announce his offer from the Buckeyes Monday.

Obidegwu is considered the 158th-ranked player and 15th-best cornerback in 2024 per 247Sports’ composite rankings. He currently holds 24 Division I offers, including Tennessee, Boston College, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan State, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, USC and Virginia Tech.

In October, Obidegwu told 247Sports that Tennessee, USC, Penn State, Oregon and Maryland were among the teams recruiting him the hardest. He does not currently have a decision timeline in mind.

Kevyn Humes

Rounding out the cornerbacks Ohio State offered Monday is 2025 prospect Kevyn Humes. OSU was Humes’ sixth Division I offer, as Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State have already offered the 5-foot-10, 150-pound cornerback.

After initially tweeting that he had received an offer from the “University of Ohio State,” Humes quickly realized his mistake.

Edrees Farooq

Three-star Maryland prospect Edrees Farooq was the lone safety that Eliano offered Monday, rounding out the quartet of St. Frances players given offers by OSU.

Farooq, the younger brother of Oklahoma wide receiver Jalil Farooq, is considered the 596th-best player and 46th-best safety in the 2024 class. Like Obidegwu, he also boasts 24 Division I offers, including from the likes of Arizona, Arkansas, Boston College, Cincinnati, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and USC.

Capers puts Ohio State in top 12

One of the country’s top prospects in the 2024 class has included Ohio State in his trimmed-down schools list. Five-star 2024 Florida defensive end TJ Capers released a top 12 Friday consisting of Ohio State, Penn State, Miami, Texas A&M, Georgia, Michigan, Louisville, USC, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU and Michigan State.

Capers is considered the seventh-best prospect in 2024 and the second-ranked edge rusher. In 11 games played for Columbus High School (Miami, Florida), Capers racked up 40 tackles (3 for loss), five sacks, five quarterback hurries, five pass deflections and one fumble recovery.
