Thad Matta is set to return to Columbus next month to be honored by the Agonis Club, an organization that raises scholarship money for central Ohio athletes.
The club, which has heavily supported the Ohio State basketball program over the years, named Matta its Person of the Year on Thursday and is set to honor him June 4 with a golf outing and banquet at The Medallion Club in Westerville, Ohio.
Matta spent 13 seasons as the head basketball coach of the Buckeyes, leading Ohio State to a pair of Final Four appearances and a national runner up finish in 2007. He was fired in June of 2017 after failing to reach the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row.
