Micah Potter Discusses His Buckeye Commitment

Offered by Ohio State a month ago, it didn't take Micah Potter long to get a decision made. He told Eleven Warriors on April 7th, on the heels of a trip to play in Italy for a week, that he'd have to be 100-percent before committing. The Buckeyes had just received a commitment from Lakewood St. Edward center Derek Funderburk, and the Buckeyes are looking at a very small – possibly only two player – class in 2016.

"I talked with them during the entire trip," Potter said when he returned from Italy. "(Funderburk's commitment) impacts me a little, but the Buckeyes are still very high on my list. They really want me to commit but they're not killing me over it, if that makes sense. I need to feel 100-percent in my choice. Derek and I don't play really similar positions, they want someone who can play a bit more outside."

After this past weekend in Columbus, he was sure he wanted to be a Buckeye.

"I committed on Saturday on my visit," Potter said. "I kept it quiet so I could call other coaches to thank them for recruiting me and let them know I was going to be a Buckeye."

In truth, Potter said the decision wasn't that difficult since the offer at the end of March.

"It wasn't that hard," he said of making the choice. "There were a couple schools that I really like but after the visit Saturday, it all made sense. Being able to see the campus atmosphere, the dorms, and just the Buckeye lifestyle got me to that 100-percent. The staff was ecstatic. They jumped up and were yelling 'Micah Potter is a Buckeye!'"

Potter said the chance to don the Scarlet and Gray is a lifelong dream come true and that he has no plans to let down his home state.

"Yes, it's a dream come true," Potter said of the decision. "There's a big sense of pride being able to play for the home town team, and It'll help us (Potter, Funderburk) play harder knowing we have to defend our home."
