I mean, he's not wrong.  A week earlier we looked like shit against Maryland.

But the game wasn't a week earlier. Or a week later. Or 18 years ago when they could actually beat us.

They're all chickens. The rooster has sex with all of them.

HS
bleedscarletpissmaize's picture

Urban 100% knows the difference between Maryland and ttun. They prep all year for ttun and Maryland maybe gets a few weeks.

HS
BurningRiverBuckeye's picture

And a week earlier they got tested to the wire by Indiana...so he is wrong.

HS
CincyBuck's picture

I tend to agree.  I get that Meyer has a different approach to The Game than to every other game.  But we struggled mightily against Maryland the week before.

And I get that the refs weren't exactly in our favor last weekend.  I also remember the 1-2 blunders.  But, man, everything else went well for us.  If you play that game 10 times, I'm guessing that happens, at most, once.

I still think we're the better team, FWIW.

HS
CTBuckeyeFan's picture

I don't remember too many lucky bounces going OSU's way, just great execution.

HS
CincyBuck's picture

I get what you're saying.  I just don't think that "luck" and "execution" are wholly separate concepts.  Some days, there are little to no blocking mistakes, the throws are all on target, and nobody's off by half a second.  Other days, not so much.  The former described our play on Saturday.

I do think we had a handful of breaks.  The blocked punt going right to a place that Harris could grab it in the absence of would-be tacklers.  The gift-wrapped interception thrown by Patterson.

Again, I think OSU is the better team.  But I don't think you get an ass-whooping like that (where even the lopsided score wasn't necessarily indicative of the size of the beat down) without a lot of things going right.

And I guess I'm not reading as much into Harbaugh's comments as most.  Maybe he does mean it to be an excuse-making, pompous A-hole.  But if any other coach said this, I feel like we wouldn't be up at arms.

HS
BucksLover0214's picture

Well what about the botched kickoff return that handed UM a touchdown and essentially tied it halftime?  Victor dropping a ball that him right in the hands?  Nick Bosa being injured earlier in the year?  Refs missing a blatant targeting call, and turning around and penalizing OSU 15 yards for Urban's reaction?  We could play the hypotheticals all day.

They hate us cuz they aint us!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

HS
moxywoxy's picture

It was Banks that grabbed the blocked punt out of the air. It was a heads up play by him - he was the first one to spot the ball and run to it. Not like he was standing there and it fell in his hands.

The interception was caused by Chase Young. He got a hand on Patterson as he was throwing it.

I would argue neither of those are examples of "breaks."

HS
CincyBuck's picture

I'll put it this way: that was one of the most lopsided losses that I can remember ever happening in The Game.  If we played that game, say, 100 times, would the median margin of victory be 23 points in the Buckeyes' favor (which, if we're being honest, isn't entirely indicative of the blowout's magnitude)?  I suspect no.  Otherwise, we would've beaten MSU by about 50 points (a team that seems to be a crappier version of Michigan).

Kind of like if the Basketbucks shot 80% from the arc and blew the doors off another team -- despite a few bad calls and a handful of turnovers.  It's unlikely that performance would happen again in the next game.  It doesn't mean they didn't execute or earn the win.  But sometimes you just have the hot hand and it's your night.

Again, not saying OSU isn't the better team.  I think they are.  And I'll be glad to be proven wrong if/when we beat Northwestern by about 40 (again, a worse team than Michigan).  Then, if we go to the Rose Bowl, we embarrass the Pac-12 champion to the tune of about 30-40 (also will be a worse team than Michigan).  (I think all of the teams in the Playoffs will be better than Michigan).

HS
STU10's picture

Look, when Meyer's hungry/fast/quick Florida DL dominated OSU's soft/immobile/slow OL in the '06 NC game, it wasn't that Florida's whole team was better than OSU's team -- they just  'exposed' our weakness by exploiting their strength -- flash forward to this years scUM game -- are we really THAT much better than TTUN overall? -- no --

Watch the game again -- the vast majority of our 'domination' was simply  'exposing'  #28 on their defense -- which our coaches correctly identified as their Achilles/weakness...

TTUN just needs some better DB's quality/depth and they will be in a much better position to compete with OSU...

HS
BucksLover0214's picture

I don't remember UM generating a pass rush.  I don't really remember them stopping the run.  And if OSU doesn't gift them a TD right before half, I think UM crumbles even earlier in the 3rd Quarter.  I would say talent/depth greatly favor OSU, and it's been that way for 7 years now.  Hence, our record in that time under UFM.

They hate us cuz they aint us!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

HS
CincyBuck's picture

I don't really remember them stopping the run.

Interesting.  That's the one thing I remember wishing that the Buckeyes did better.  At least in the first half.

HS
BucksLover0214's picture

We didn't get huge chunk plays, but both Dobbins and Weber played pretty well.  Haskins moved the chains when we needed him to as well.  I'm just saying, the offense wasn't totally one dimensional in torching one specific DB, although that guy did have a bad day.

They hate us cuz they aint us!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And if we play NW close he may have a point. Except we will always prepare for Michigan as our superbowl. Those senior WR's were not going to be denied. Sore loser mentality prevents future success. Telling your team we caught them on the wrong week is a way to stay mediocre for eternity.

HS
Wargor's picture

Wow Jimmy.  Hey, I'll admit that if we replay that game 100 times, OSU probably doesn't win all 100.  But the number is probably in the 90's and not in the low 90's either.  And on that basis, you don't talk about next week or the week before.  PSU can do that.  Maryland or Nebraska can do that if they want.  Michigan can't do that this year.  This year we owned them despite most of the breaks going their way (officiating and untimely turnover giving them life).

HS
Independence Village 22's picture

Went back and rewatched the game on BTN. If we convert both 4 and 1 from the 1yardline FG's we kicked into TD's. Not bobble the McCall kickoff. And take away 3 of their scoring drives where they were stopped on 3rd and long multiple times but given 1st downs on questionable flags extending into eventual scores. 70-13 is closer to the true score. Our defense actually played really really well. They were victims of ass loads of penalties that were questionable at minimum. 70-13 lol

As always, Ramzy said it best:

Michigan reveres and respects Michigan. This strategy is not in the cards.

Unfortunately, leadership is an action, not a title. The best is fleeting bullshit. When either is cheapened into a slogan® or a battle cry™ they both become ornaments. Pretty on the outside and hollow in the center. Fun to look at. Easy to break.

Both Woodson and Harbaugh openly treat the current condition of Michigan's rivalry game performance as an awkward and unfortunate blip rather than two decades of normalcy.

The great thing about Jimmy's response is that it guarantees more TTUN failure. Losers make excuses like this. Woodson and Howard and Brady are all correct: Harbaugh doesn't respect the rivalry. They thought they'd get a guy who "got it" like Tress or Urban.  Ironically, they had that guy in Brady Hoke (who beat us and always made The Game competitive). He just wasn't great in all the other games...

But they didn't get a guy who respects Ohio State.  They got an entitled baby-man who thinks he & his school is so elite and intrinsically better than everyone that ALL they need to do is put on the jersey and they're winners.

Harbaugh is a really good football coach. I have no doubt of that. One of the things that may be holding him back from being a great coach is that he always seems to have an excuse. Both teams played at the height of the season with everything on the line and the Buckeyes dominated the Wolverines. End of story. A couple years ago it was the refs. Not sure if he had an excuse last year. This year they didn't play on the ideal week for Jimbo.

It is still so perplexing to me how our line play was so much drastically better.  That was the only difference.  Yes our weaknesses on defense were hidden a bit by a lack of speed on Michigan, but since the line wasn’t getting blown downfield 3 yards, it also made it easier on our linebackers.  Totally confused.  I was totally right about both Ohio State and Michigan all year, just not about the fact that it took OSU the whole year to show up

He basically said we've been talking about this game all year but my team wasnt ready. I'm not a good enough coach to motivate my team against a team I hate and I'm not sure what else I could have done.

If anyone ever gets to feeling a little sorry for those frickin losers up north, I'd say they should consider:

1) The arrogance, obliviousness, out of touch with reality, stupidity of the fanbase. Right now on mgoblow there are multiple threads postulating their playoff chances under certain circumstances. It's so ridiculous I almost want to say it must be a master troll, in which case, well played. Or how about Jackoff Harbaugh, talking about hanging a B1G East Co-Champions Banner??? Please...Do!!! Top Comedy!!! LOL again this is something I would expect of a trolling rival, not from the head coach family. Co-champs hahahahaha enjoy that banner and thinking of 62-39 upon every view.

2) https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ramzy-m-osu-rivalry-gave-me-some-satisfaction . Look no further than this thread to reinforce how arrogant/delusional/whatever pejorative you may want to apply this fanbase is. There are some (still loser) posters that acknowledge reality, but there's still a large contingent ignoring the facts. Denial is a helluva drug eh?

Man this win was sweet! Let's do it again next year! Go bucks!

The comments from the Ramzy article are hilarious.  They are rationalizing that Jimmy is really 2-2 in the rivalry, and he is as good of a coach, if not better than Urbz.  Keep drinking the Kool-Aid losers.

That to me is absolutely insane.

He has won ZERO B1G championships

He has appeared in ZERO CFP games

He has finished with a top recruiting class ZERO times

He has won a National Championship ZERO times

People were nervous when he was hired, I wasn't. Check his record, without Andrew Luck this dude is Brady Hoke at the college level.

Well, a week later actually makes sense.  OSU already beat TTUN so would they even know about the game that Jimmy scheduled for the following week, let alone show up for it?

The bad news is that Michigan did win the rematch 7-0 after the came was called when it was discovered Ohio State wasn't here.  However Michigan's first drive took 12 plays (against no defense).  Higdon tripped four times trying to run off tackle, running into their slow linemen.  Tight ends dropped two passes.  Wide receivers dropped to more, and Shea ran out of bounds twice.  Once when he thought he was being pursued by two Ohio State defenders that weren't even in the stadium and the other when he mistook a cheerleader for a defender.  In his defense, the cheerleader was very large, very ugly, and could run faster than Shea.  Michigan had to go for it on fourth and long twice, due to numerous motion penalties, too many players in the backfield, and one delay of game penalty when the play call was too slow coming in from the sidelines.

Jimmy announced in the post game press conference (attended only by the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press) that he was now 1 - 4 against OSU and that NOBODY had it better than Michigan!!

How about you focus on the week the game was actually played! Who gives a Rats arse about if scenarios? If a bull frog had winds, it wouldn't bump it's ass every time it hopped either. Just get your team ready to play its best game of the year because it is The Game. Urban has no problem with that concept.

I could be wrong, but by my calculation, Jim Harbaugh is 1-6 so far in his Michigan coaching career from the Ohio State game and any game afterwards. So, I'm not sure what makes him think he'd beat Ohio State if the game were this week. I think he just has a problem finishing. It took Meyer 5 years at Ohio State to lose 6 games in total.

2015: Ohio State (loss)

          Florida (win)

2016: Ohio State (bitterly disappointing loss)

          Florida State (loss)

2017: Ohio State (loss)

          South Carolina (loss)

2018: Ohio State (loss)

          Undetermined (loss)

I might have to create a Michigan excuse thread just to consolidate all of them to one spot. Today over at that shitty site they're now claiming we have bagman and pay our players. What it that, excuse number 62?
