Hopefully too many assistants aren't off interviewing for jobs while they should be game planning. I can think of one assistant who is welcome to, though
Bill Davis should get an interview. I think he'd be a great DC for Bowling Green
Good for my Buckeyes, bad for my Falcons. Haha
I want him as far away from BOTH as possible. And I say that with as much respect as I can possibly have, but I have zero confidence he can fix the damage that seems to have already been done. We need the Bullets back, baby!
And Toledo still sucks.
Bill Davis is being interviewed to improve Oklahoma's defense.

Bill Davis should be assistant manager in training at a Burger King.

The BK Lounge huh, pretty cool place.
It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.
It got me to thinking, do we think either of these guys will be moving on up/out after this year?
If I'm being honest with myself, I would hate to see Alford go, but wouldn't lose any sleep over Stud leaving. Otherwise, leave the offensive coaches intact.
Why Hartline hasn't been promoted to permanent receivers coach is beyond me. Hopefully it happens as soon as the season concludes.
On the defensive side, all's fair in love and war (except LJ of course).
Ring the f**king bell, you pansy
My theory on Hartline is that they want to at least give the appearance that they aren't evaluating staff until the end of the season. You can't promote him for doing a good job and then NOT fire the underperforming guys. Better to just do it all at once after the year is over.
They are also saving $$$ by not promoting him to permanent. I'm sure being permanent will be accompanied by a pretty nice raise.
I remember reading it had something to do with the legal side of it since it is technically a government job. They have to post it publicly even if they are going to give it to Hartline. Not sure if that is correct though.
Yes, they have to post it. EEO.

ESPN reporting Fickell would be a candidate for Louisville job if brohm declines.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
Fick is better of staying at UC until a better job opens up.
If you click to go to my website, I am not responsible.
No decent coach is going to look at Louisville as anything other than a stepping stone to a better gig, and UC is already a pretty good stepping stone. Dantonio and Kelly got pretty sweet gigs coming out of Cincinnati. Louisville is a bump up in conference, but also a bump up in competition, so pretty much a lateral move, but one where you have to start at square one again.
Logically....maybe. But ESPN may be giving the short shrift to Luke and his wife's family ties to OH. My guess is that Cincy is as far from Columbus as they will go -- and I acknowledge that L-Ville is not all that far either.
Cincy is a much better job than Louisville in my eyes. Give it a couple more years and Cincy will be in the Big 12 anyway.
No way - he's got to take a Power 5 gig, if offered. That will prepare him better to return to Columbus as the HC one day, if that is his goal.
Tailgate Fare Historical Archive
Agreed. His dream job is the OSU job but OSU would never consider him even if Urban were to leave after this season based on 1 good year at UC. He needs to prove he can find sustained success at a P5 program before OSU comes calling.
The almighty Jim Tressel came from Youngstown State University. How did that work out?
I'm not sure there is a correlation between the two. But, more experience at a higher level program cannot hurt Fickell if he wants to end up in Columbus. Maybe it isn't the right fit, but he'd have better resources and facilities, and play in a better conference.
You don’t need to be a power 5 coach to get the OSU job. Or be successful here, let’s just hope should he return that his shift ends under more positive circumstances than the other one that came from outside the p5.
Cincy is not a better job than Louisville. Stop with that.
Louisville is definitely the better job. Cincy resources aren't even close to Louisville.
On top of that, strippers are more accessible in Louisville than they are here in Cincinnati.
And they are way hotter in the ville
Better “job” maybe not but better situation probably.
Fickell makes only 1.9 million at UC and Petrino was making 3.9 million at Louisville, even if Fickell makes 75% of Petrino's salary he would get a 1 million raise
I guess value of situation is subjective. Is Louisville a place he wants to be for 3-5 years? Kentucky sucks, the education system is garbage and you’ll always be 3rd fiddle to UK and Louisville basketball at best.
He sticks it out at cinci for another year and does even nearly as well as he did this year or better if they can make a move on UCF and he’s getting better offers than Louisville.
Parochial schools in Louisville are excellent.....as are the suburban districts where a L'vlle coach would reside.
That’s fair, my view is anecdotal coming from a Louisville area highschool educator.
I'd like to see Fickell go to Notre Dame.
Fickell is better off staying at UC for a better P5 offer. UL is primed for a massive athletic mess for the next few years plus NCAA sanctions. Brian Kelly and Butch Jones both waited an extra year to leave UC and ended up with dream jobs at ND and Tenn.
I'm as big of a UC fan as you'll find on this site but UL is a better job - just too much P5 $ to ignore. Fickell is doing great things at UC and if they ever manage to get back to any level of $ parity with the P5 conferences they can be a solid #15-25 ranked team every few years.
That is why I am saying Cincy is better than Louisville right now.. Their athletic department is a trainwreck right now. He is better to stay at Cincy and win 10 games a year for a couple years and get something better. Or like a said a couple years from now Cincy joins the Big 12 and he is already established there.
I agree. I think Fickell has a 3-4 few dream jobs he will leave for if given the oppotuntity. I don't he'll leave just to leave - I would be shocked to have him go to Purdue/Indiana/Minn just to get into the B10 again. Fickell to Michigan someday might just make heads explode
I'm telling you right now, Luke is the next Bo Schembechler. When Harbaugh gets the doors blown off him next year in Ann Arbor, he'll either be fired or resign and go back to the NFL. Luke will have another very good year at UC and accepts the job. Trust me on this.
Trust me on this.

Seriously doubt Fick will want to turn in his alumni card by doing that. Don't forget, Bo didnt play at OSU, he played at Miami, OH.
No way that happens.
Nothing cleanses the soul like a no call pass interference.
Harbaugh is a Michigan lifer. He isn't leaving for the NFL, and he isn't getting fired. He has already done better than the last 2 Michigan coaches combined.
He has a worse (and winless) record against OSU than hoke and has won what 5 more games than hoke?
hes also 2-2 with MSU.
He's won 10 games, three out of four years there. His job isn't anywhere near a hot seat.
Oh I agree with that I’m just saying he’s not doing that much better than hoke did at this time.
Unless they really view The Game differently...10 wins a year with a loss every year in The Game will not be good enough much longer. Ask John Cooper.
Cooper lasted 13 years. You’re making the opposite point.
**This space to be filled with an inspirational quote from a famous Buckeye**
Different era though also. ADs, fans, boosters, etc., expect results much sooner. Like year 2 or 3. 13 year tenures are a rarity anymore.
Marvin Lewis suggests maybe looking into another league for that type of job security.
He has reestablished the Bo standard in Ann Arbor - Bo went 12 seasons at TTUN before he finally won the last game of his season, and he is the only storied coach Up North in the last 75 years. He will be revered forever, and Jim is matching that lofty (*cough*) standard.
At this point, if any coaches leave i'm sure Urban has a list of people he'd call. On the defensive side of the ball, as much as folks want Billy Davis gone, i dont see anyone hiring him. Schiano is probably due an opportunity to be a head coach somewhere and i feel like Rutgers will be giving him a call. if that happens, i wouldn't mind seeing Chris Ash come back. Ryan Day will no doubt get quite a few calls and that will be a huge loss whenever he moves on. Hartline, i'm sure, has to be named the permanent WR coach after the season and guys like Tony Alford, Stud, Grinch will all get looks. LJ is here to stay, so that;s great news for us.
Rutgers already said Ash is being retained at least one more season. Ryan Day to Louisville makes some sense, but I don't really see any jobs out there that would be better than staying Ohio State OC...or if Urban does retire(I don't believe he will) going all in for the Ohio State job.
I think Brohm is Louisville's top target no question. If he is true to his word and elects to stay at Purdue then Day and Fickell might be next on their list. Louisville could also make a play for Dino Babers if they wanted to although moving from Syracuse to Louisville would be kind of a lateral move for him.
Texas Tech could be an option for Day in an offensive happy conference. They have the money to throw at him.
There will be more openings announced after this weekend that could be HC opportunities for Day.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
That could be a great fit for Mr Day!
Eh, someone somewhere will hire Davis. We hate him but a tiny school would still like to say it has a former NFL coach as their DC or whatever. Even Withers found a landing spot.
Meyer has to have connections that can help him get Davis a landing spot. Surely he's learned his lesson with Smith about the loyalty thing (albeit for different reasons). I doubt that Meyer will out and out fire him (not his style, and certainly not with Davis), but he has shown he's willing to ease people out.
Grinch isn't going anywhere since he is an Ohio kid. Tennessee's change of heart on Schiano (their breach of his deal) screwed up Meyer's succession planning of coordinators just like Cardale's return in 2015 messed up his QB succession plan. Grinch isn't going anywhere unless he decides that he can't and won't be a coach in Schiano's fucked up schemes and take the fall for them along with the rest of the staff. Same goes for Taver Johnson.
As for Ryan Day, I am a little surprised (unless I missed it) that he hasn't been named a candidate for the Texas Tech job.
Nutinpa, I gotta say your spot on with your take. I don't think that Day would go to Texas Tech as that is a death of a thousand cuts. I could see Todd Orlando going there as he wants a head coaching job and prolly deserves one.
Hey Cancer! This ass kicking is brought to you by the Guernsey county mafia. Give it Hell 84!
Texas tech is a pretty good job. Wish they had kept klingsburry one more year. He deserved. If his stud freshman qb didn’t get injured they would have been 8-4 or even9-3. I think having a young star quarterback makes it a very desirable situation. Day would have him for two years. Is in an area where he doesn’t have to go out of state for his talent. I’d say this is probably the number 1 job out there right now.
In terms of QB development, the TT job is a great one, I agree. If Day has hopes to get back to the NFL, his ticket is through a pass happy offense. It is no coincidence that Day hitched his wagon to Haskins as the JT heir apparent over Burrow, before the season began.
I would put money on the fact that Schiano is gone after this year. If he can't find a good HC job, he might "retire". Grinch is here to coach, and he's not going to sit behind Schiano forever.
Speaking of Grinch, where the hell has he been? It's like they're hiding him behind a curtain.
I kind of doubt either Stud or Alford go anywhere-both seem like career lifers for their positions. I think Stud played for BG or coached there w/ Urban or both.
Sounds like Brohm to L'Ville could be happening
Would be shocked if it didn't.
Side note: every player that committed to Purdue since Brohm got there should be free to go to whatever school they want to. No restrictions. This should be for everyone that has a head coach leave.
Love to add jitterbug Rondale Moore. Would be mind blowing.
My thought too, but I'm sure he would just follow Brohm to Louisville.
At least 1 restriction, can't go to the coaches new school.
The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender. - Woody Hayes
I could live with that. Unless the coach is fired.
Sounds fair to me.
Early signing period is next week isn't it?So they'd be free to walk anyway if that's the case
If Brohm leaves Purdue for Louisville, which I expect to happen, if I'm Purdue the very first call I'm making is down to Northern Kentucky to try and get Luke Fickell on board.
Fickell is a defensive guy. I think they'd call Cliff first and try to bring him in. Purdue's a decent job though, so I think a lot of people would at least be interested now, after what Brohm's started there.
They hate us cuz they aint us!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Fickell is a defensive guy, that's ok, he's allowed to be. He should still be their first call over a coach like Kingsbury who has already failed.
When did the Norse get a football team?
Ryan Day is rumored to be the #1 candidate for Colorado: https://www.ralphiereport.com/2018/11/28/18114674/ryan-day-colorado-buff...
Could be a very good fit. I've thought for a long time that CU is a potential sleeping giant in the Pac-12. It's a great university in one of the best college towns in America, and has so much to offer recruits. Good academics, incredible weather (for those of you who haven't spent much time in Colorado, it's sunny and temperate for most of the year, and on the front range the snow usually melts completely within 24 hours of falling--winters in Columbus and on the East Coast were 10x worse than any I've experienced in the decade-plus that I've spent in CO), beautiful campus, and a history of winning, even if that history isn't in the memory of today's recruits. People forget that CU can claim both a national title and a Heisman winner more recently than Notre Dame.
Ya Ryan Day should get a good look somewhere thought he did a commendable job in Urbz place.Unless he's waiting for Urbz to leave then roll the dice
Really hope Ryan Day stays. I think he’s the main reason we are transitioning to the power spread pass/run. Have to pay him like Venables to keep until Urban wants to move to AD. Now Greg and Billy, let’s pass the hat for air fare to go interview wherever they’d like. We’ll get reimbursed. Win win.
i want Alford to stay as well. Stud, maybe he just saved his job but more on the job interviews remain IMO.
I love and hate this time of year.
“I intend to make Georgia howl.” General William Tecumseh Sherman
Day also turned this team into Texas Tech - lite in the middle of the season. For stretches of time, the O was just as pathetic as the D. The criticism of the Offense, coinciding with Meyer's return was unfounded IMHO.
The O only started humming when Meyer told his coaches their pass happy offense with a glass doll Quarterback, was horse shit.
Not that he’s getting attention for HC vacancies, but this conversation made me wonder: has anyone heard from Kevin Wilson lately? I hardly hear anything about him, and it seems like they never show him during games anymore. (Though maybe that’s just because they’re using all those shots to zoom in on Urban’s reactions.)
Wilson is in the booth, so the camera shots of him wil be limited. He agreed (whether it was reluctantly or not, doesn't matter) to play second fiddle to Day. The question is for how long. I think Day is as good as gone after this season if Meyer comes back. We can only hope the same for Schiano and Davis.
DEPARTMENT OF LEARNING & PROBLEM-SOLVING...
Sign of the times: VACANCY
Alford has to be moving up. He has been nothing short of great his entire time here. If he goes, I hope we try to get Drayton back. Stud is a hell of a recruiter but the o-line has been up and down the last two years. Schiano has to get another job this year. He's qualified and he is not a bad coach. I think the only coaches that will be here no matter what are the first year coaches, Johnson and Wilson.
All I know is, Rutgers needs to make a change at HC so Chris Ash can come back to Columbus and get our defense sorted out.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Will never understand with all the rules they have with players and contacts why they just don't make it a dead period until the bowl games or over.
