I like this. Thad deserves it. I hope they cheer like hell for him.

I'll be there, cheering like hell for him
As will I, Tree Trunk
Me too... Those two runs to the Final Four will be awesome highlights... I was in attendance for the Ron Lewis bomb to force OT against Xavier... What was your all's favorite memory of the Matta era? The back to back buzzer beaters to beat Iowa State and Arizona were fun too.
Sylvester for 3.....!!!!!!
I was in middle school and I vividly remember it being a Sunday afternoon game... Watched it at church because my dad was coaching a team that had practice at the gym... When he hit it I ran down the hall screaming YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! People thought I was losing my mind.
Gus Johnson on the call!
I'd rather be a minute early than an hour early, 'cause I like to procrastinate.
There really were so many. I was 4 rows behind the basket where Sylvester hit that shot. I was in Lexington when Ron Lewis hit that 3 to send the game to OT. I still vividly remember the home finale when OSU clinched the B1G title a year before the Thad 5 came to town. He grabbed the microphone and said "people keep talking about how good we are going to be in the future, this team looks damn good right now!" But I think my favorite has to be that first Final Four. We were the best team that year and I still cannot believe we didn't win that final game. Seeing a Final Four in person was the most intense and exiting sporting event I have ever attended.
Wonderful sentiment. Who downvotes this?
Absolutely. He deserves a big time ovation!
Absolutely. He deserves a big time ovation!
Matta deserves a big time, prolonged ovation!
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
Good move by the school as Matta is a classy guy.
Well done by the University and a great match up chosen which to recognize him at. Go bucks!

Awesome. I remember a pretty big win against Syracuse too.
The team we beat to reach our most recent Final Four.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
When we thought we had something in Amir Williams.
Yep, and beat them pretty handily in their "second home" of MSG in the preseason NIT one year too.
This is great - look forward to seeing the appreciation for Coach Matta.
I wanna be like Chris Holtmann when I grow up!! #CLASS
This is outstanding!
Thad should have retired a couple of years before he was canned... when it became obvious he could not physically do an excellent job any more. Still, I guess I can understand some reasons he hung in there and hope he gets a great reception tomorrow. There's no doubt he did an overall great job for the Buckeyes.
Love the Buckeyes
1) Standing ovation for Matta. Decent coach, awesome recruiter, all around good dude, and unlike the previous two coaches here didn't leave the team as a giant NCAA sanctioned trainwreck. Job well done
2) Is whats-his-face playing for Syracuse this year? The kid who decommitted from us because he felt we didn't have enough talent for him?
I believe his name was Darius Bazley... And I think he hosed Syracuse too and jumped to the pro ranks. Or attempted to at least.
He's in G league or something like that these days.
Bazley? No, he decommitted, then said he’d join the G-league. He then changed course again and is training on his own for the NBA Draft. It’ll be fascinating to see if his path works, it may open up for more guys in the future.
There is a thin line between being confident in your skills and being delusional. Most kids who go that route seem to be the latter. I suspect in a couple years we are going to hear about him playing in Slovakia or some such place.
I want a fall Saturday in Ohio Stadium..
Give us a purple face for old times sake Thad!
This is such a classy move by OSU and Chris Holtmann. One thing that I loved about what Thad Matta did when he got here was embrace the history and welcome in former players. It is obvious Holtmann has continued this and I think the Schott will get pretty loud at halftime for a well deserving recognition of everything Coach Matta did for the program.
Something similar happened last year on the women's side as well. OSU hosted Stanford and before the game OSU, with Kevin McGuff participating, recognized Tara Vanderveer for her contributions to the Lady Buckeyes program. One of the great things about OSU is how much respect and recognition is given to history and tradition.
Class move by Ohio State. Much deserved for Thad. I will be watching.
Still hurts to hear that presser when Thad was stepping down. He knew it was over but loved this University dearly. Anything other than a standing ovation would be unacceptable. Thank you for the memories Thad and I wish you and your family the very best!
Anybody know what Thad's up to now? Is he still in town? (I image it'd be hard for him to be so close the the program but not involved.) Nothing but love for that guy -- he gave us some amazing seasons.
I'm pretty sure he and his family have left town and moved someplace warm. He always said when his coaching days were over he wanted to live on the beach. He has certainly earned that.
My understanding he has moved to Indy and is renovating a house there. His daughter currently goes to Butler.
How good it is to hear that Thad will get the chance for the fans to thank him. I just got done reading the book about Pitino, it also touched on some of the other programs paying the players to come to their schools. Running a clean program probably cost him his job. Best wishes to him and his family for being a great coach and an even greater person.
Thad....he may have not went out like he wanted to but he sure as hell gave us alot to cheer for when he was the leader of the program. He upped the bar for the program on so many levels and deserves every bit of this recognition.
He gave his everything and then some to the program. Commitment, Courage and Guts are 3 words that come to mind when I think of Coach Matta. I hope those in attendance give him his proper due.
I Hate Michigan.
Downvoter.....have a good reason? please share with the majority of us who dont share your sentiments about Thad.
Totally agree. This is ridiculous.
Thad Matta was/is a class act. Back Problems brought him down, sapped the energy .......If he was healthy I think he'd still be the coach
Enjoy the wins over *ichigan, ....I still remember the dark days of the 1990's....
Holtmann continues to do literally everything right.
Holtmann taking care of the past, present, and future!

This is awesome! So glad he gets to come back for an official show of appreciation. He's definitely earned it.
Whoever the serial downvoters is, go find something that will make you a happy person and fuck off.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
Fantastic and well deserved. Thad did a great job for the Bucks!!
Always a great day to be a Buckeye!
I also wonder - might there be something "very special" taking place that they haven't announced? Maybe after halftime the team will be playing on Thad Matta court? That's probably a stretch because OSU doesn't typically do things like that and he didn't win a title but he is the all time winningest coach in the program. Or more likely they might raise a banner for him like they did for Fred Taylor. There needs to be some kind of permanent recognition of Thad's accomplishments in The Schott.
Another good move for The University.
I'm wondering if Thad still has to pretend that he's looking for another job.
Sooner or later it all gets real.
I find it very fitting that Thad is being honored at half-time.
Still remember the 2012 Tournament Elite 8 game where Ohio State did a beautiful job carving up 1-seed Syracuse's zone. Thad was fantastic with his game plan and how he prepped the team for that one. Thad also benefited, though, from having the ideal players to utilize in the high post with Deshaun Thomas and Jared Sullinger.
Holtmann doesn't have the benefit of the same kind of talent at his disposal, but hopefully he and his team find a way to get the W tonight.
