I’ll say it again ... imagine what Coach Johnson and Marotti could have done with him.
He chose to wear that stupid fucking helmet and a football jersey with a basketball player on it instead of the greatest uniform in college football so I am guessing that his wonderlic score will raise the eyebrows of a few teams.
I Hate Michigan.
Well, he did pledge his services to the 'Maize & Yellow' and we all know what he majored in...
"It's always scotch-thirty on my island."
Wow I remember when his mom talked about how academics were incredibly important to both of them. Clearly he was focusing on his academics with that General Studies major he isn't finishing.
What he meant by "focusing on academics" was that he was going to play ball at a school that would accept him academically and offered a curriculum in which he could remain eligible to play.
New York Buckeye
Brah, you think our curriculum is more challenging?
He also was on Sportscenter in preparation of the game, wanting to be a part of the Michigan versus TTUN rivalry.
we had to rewind the DVR because we thought that was what he said but...
This might be one of my favorite comments I've ever seen in all my time here.
What a non-factor. I don't remember him doing anything at all in the games against us. No sacks and no hurries on Saturday is not the stuff that elite DE's are made of. Too bad he didn't come to OSU to learn under Coach LJ. He would have made a lot more money in April that's for sure.
Fields of Dreams
He may not have had a big game Saturday but last year he was all over the filed with 10 tackles, 3 TFL and 2 sacks, he played little 2 years ago and had 1 tackle and 1 QBH that year so overall he had 16 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 sacks and a QBH for his 3 years
You don't think Greg Mattison is a good D-line coach that knows what he's talking about? He's been in the NFL, been on Meyer's staff at Florida, ND, etc.....Gary just isn't that good. He's not even as good as Taco Charlton, and he hasn't done anything with the Cowboys. Gary hasn't made big plays in ANY big games. In 3 years, he has 10 sacks.
Bill Davis has been in the NFL, been on Meyer's staff as well and we all hate him here lol.
Charlton was much better, certainly against us. I wouldn't call Gary a bust, but he didn't live up to all of the recruiting hype. It happens. We have/had a few 5* kids that never lived up to their promise.

Read the headline on the front page -- 'Gary Gone'. Thought it was referring to his contribution to last Saturday's game.

As is custom, Gary leaves Michigan without a win over Ohio State, without a conference title and so far, without a postseason win.
Straight fire right there.
As is tradition custom...

Upvote for any Indiana Jones reference!
It was fun while it lasted, seeing a #1 overall recruit getting outrun by OSU quarterbacks

"I think Alabama would beat Ohio State if they played next weekend!" Clay Travis Fox Sports Post Championship Show 1.12.2015. Needs no explanation.
Remember that _ichigan Amazon series from last season, when Dwayne comes into the game and the microphone catches him saying that they were going to "bust him up" or some such nonsense? How'd that work out for you, Rashan?
They were "gonna get his ass."
Not so much.
So does this mean he isn't playing in their bowl game??
Did you mean 'playing' or 'performing'? Based on last week, this could go either way.
I'll go with "participating." I wonder if he will be on TTUN's sideline and participating in the contest?
well, the unfortunate news is that it seems that Zach Harrison is still heading up north, so they will certainly have a talented player to replace Gary. That defense will lose Gary, Winovich and most likely Bush and one of their corners (maybe both?) but i'm sure they have some talented underclassmen to replace those guys.
Gary seemed to have an bit of an underwhelming career compared to all the hype his commitment brought to TTUN, but in fairness he was injured and probably double-teamed by opposing OL. With that beign said, i'm not sad to see him head for the league. I'm sure he'll have a monster combine and maybe get himself into the top 10?
Why does it seem Zach is still headed up north? Not doubting you, just wondering what I missed today.
There is some optimism on mgoblog based on some tweets that they should be on commit watch. Seems unlikely though since reports are that he has an in-home with James Franklin
Class of 2005
Maybe they meant suicide watch.
I work with this jerk who is a huge Xich fan and follows recruiting more than he probably works. He’s pretty connected to the school too, but there’s a growing sense up there that Harrison is a done deal. It was also part of the reason two players were pretty much dropped so that Harrison and another defensive end or LB had spots. Again, this is what he said so obviously it could be wrong but the momentum was certainly siding with the bad guys as of last week.
I'd love to see Harrison commit to OSU for what he could do with the Buckeyes, BUT...
If an Ohio kid with that much talent can't see that his future will be far better served in Columbus under the tutelage of Coach Johnson, you have to question his judgment to the point where, basically, it amounts to a self-selecting confession whereby (somewhere down deep) he then must know that he's overrated, and so his subconscious rightfully chooses the proper match for him, whereas...
By the same self-selecting principle, if he chooses Ohio State, then you can bet he's a stud who (down deep) knows he's a stud and chooses like a stud--one who wants to be a winner among winners.
In short, choosing Ohio State or Xigan is a self-identifying, self-fulfilling prophecy for either success or failure.
Whichever he picks. he won't be wrong, and there will be no need for concern since he'll be sealing his own fate. Quite simply, if he wants to be a Buckeye, then he must be good enough to choose to be a Buckeye, but if the Xigan shoe fits, well... good luck with that... oh, and my heartfelt condolences.
Now, sure, he can take the risk the huge risk that he'll be different, telling himself that his potential is assured wherever he goes, but if so, then the folly of his youth will have made him blind to the fact that this is a team game, and to a great degree, his potential and his future will be left in the hands of a perennial underperforming program with a roster full of unwitting kids who dared to take the same risk...
Only to watch another four years of failure roll by.
Four years of critical development that he'll never get back.
Four years of frustration and regret that he'll never live down.
Four years of (fair or not) being mocked for making such a patently foolish decision.
Somehow, it seems like a far better idea to become an instant hero the minute he commits to Ohio State straight through announcing his eligibility for the NFL draft three years from now, but that's his self-fulfilling prophecy to make.
WAY TOO EARLY to tell where he's going to end up. He could still end up at Penn State. The pull with Michigan is Al Washington and most people are saying Zach has a good relationship with the kids they are recruiting which is helping....
But that was BEFORE the beatdown. There is already pressure on Harbaugh to shake up the coaching staff on both sides of the ball. You start getting different coaches and some of those recruits could head elsewhere.. that could change everything.. not to mention Al Washington won't be his position coach.
The "problem" with Harrison from day 1 is he's not a buckeye fan. He doesn't root for a team so he views all three schools equally. If for some reason Al Washington is out at Michigan some folks think it could be Penn State because Harrison simply wants to leave home for college..
Tough decision for the kid... wish him the best wherever he lands..
The "problem" with Harrison from day 1 is he's not a buckeye fan.
I'm just wondering how one grows up in Columbus, or anywhere in Ohio for that matter, but especially Columbus, and is not an Ohio State fan. I just don't get it.
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
0-3. Just imagine. 0-3.
Enjoy the wins over *ichigan, ....I still remember the dark days of the 1990's....
And yet another Michigan "star" moves on without ever having won against Ohio State.
Nice jersey number you got there. Would be a shame if somebody put a 0 in front of it to match your record against the Buckeyes.
Barfolomew, you are a Photoshop genius!
If I remember correctly, Rashan Gary was one of Harbaugh's first antics. He hired his HS coach Partridge (spelling?) on staff to secure his commitment. Gary actually quite liked Ohio State but his mom bought into Harbaugh's / Partirdge's negative recruiting. She said Rashan will never be allowed to make his own choice and forced him to go to TTUN. Crazy stuff. Almost feel sorry for the kid. Could have accomplished somuch more here. Ah well …
"The minute we stop expecting greatness, we become Wisconsin."
I seemed to remember somebody close to him getting a job at that school. Is the Partridge guy still there? Or are they making room for somebody close to some other recruit?
Success - it's what you do with what you've got. - Woody Hayes
Never mind, I googled and Chris Partridge is indeed still there. Safeties and special teams coordinator. Sounds like he recruits the Jersey area.
This was all about losing three games to the Bucks and not wanting to lose a 4th... he now can walk away without having that ignominy hanging over his head.
Awh, we hardly knew her..
Leave one wolf alive....and the sheep are never safe
He looks like a dumpy pile of mush. No definition, just kinda blobish. Great decision a few years ago bub!
"I didn't get a harrumph outta that guy!"
For a former number 1 high school recruit he seemed to have a pretty underwhelming career. I am sure there are those out there who will say differently but that guy doesn't seem to be close to Nick Bosa or Ed Oliver's level.
Very much agree. Gary is a solid player with flashes. But no, nowhere near Bosa or Oliver. To be fair, not many are.
I don't know how you can say that, he put up the same stats as Bosa did in The Game. Same number of pressures and sacks.
To be fair, Nick wasn't playing, which was why they had equal stats on Saturday.
Oh, did you mean last year?

Understanding he battled injuries this year, I'll still be interested to see how the draft gurus assess Gary's underwhelming Michigan career. I think he drops no matter what his combine numbers look like. He had lots of games to dominate while in Ann Arbor, and never did.
I'm no expert, but I think the NFL drafts on "potential," not exclusively on college statistics. Some players are mediocre college players but have unlimited NFL potential. Not defending R.G., but I think he's going to financially ok; as long as his mother knows how to handle large sums of $.
I wish the young man well. He made, or his mother made, a bad decision three years ago, and he has been regretting it ever since. (Note to Zach) Don't make the same mistake.
Post of the Year Candidate

He most likely will not play the bowl game, so no postseason wins are coming. Zach Harrison, please take note, we want you to succeed in Scarlet and Gray.

Over-rated! Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap
I have never been a fan of parents refusing their kids the right to make their own decisions in life. But if one does so, that parent has a huge responsibility to be as thorough and objective as possible. Buying a poor sales pitch and falling hook, line and sinker for negative recruiting, in a sense, is betraying that responsibility. In this case it won't ruin Gary's life by any means. He will still go to the NFL and secure high earnings. But under Larry Johnson's training regime, he probably would have realized much more of his potential. As I wrote above, it is a shame his mother did not think this through with greater diligence.
"Those who stay will be chumps" .......
Over on Mgoblog, they're canonizing him like he was some great warrior on the field. Dude had less than ten career sacks.
They are shitheads - they did the same thing with peppers. LOL
Wise choice, before he can lose another one to the good guys next year.
Too bad for Gary. Life choices, I guess.
For us, we get a leg up in recruiting. We destroyed TTUN, not just in The Game. We also destroyed any assertion that they're a team on the rise.
Note to Harbaugh: Trips to Rome and sleepovers are cute and all, but if you go 0-4 against your biggest rival at the end of every season, you're in the hot seat.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
The entire scUM defense is overrated. No team's defense is great or elite when it surrenders 62 points to its rival or any team, period. And what's so great about Don Brown, after all? Yeah, I judge him on this one game because it's The Game and he and his defense choked up in the big game.
It should be interesting who else leaves early. Bush will likely go to the draft, too.
Rashad, you shoulda woulda coulda been a Buckeye, a Rushman!
OH-IO living BACK IN COLUMBUS after 32 years in the ATL.
It's too bad he just couldn't live up to the Pepper's Name.......wait......
Interesting to see this news in light of the revelation that Mike Doss would've left for the NFL after his Junior year if Tressel hadn't pulled out the win in 2001.
Well, Mr Gary, at least there's an upside to choosing TTUN...
You'll never regret choosing to leave there.
As for choosing to go there?
Not so much.
One of the most underwhelming 3 year starter/all american/future first round pick players I've ever seen. Outside of Jabby Peppers.
"Come on, you sons of b!tches! Do you want to live forever?" -- Dan Daly, WWI
Zach Harrison seems to be a great kid... even better than he is a football player. And I wish him well. However, I always wonder about kids who seem to not want to compete in order to win a starting job at Ohio State. Come to Xigan and start right away... or [Mod Edit] and start right away... i doubt if Coach Johnson or Urban ever tell a kid that.
But hey, it worked out well for Winevich and Gary, and perhaps it will for future Xigan players as well. :>)
If you think that’s why he’s looking at the 3 schools equally then you either haven’t payed attention or just don’t care enough to actually know.
I wish the young man continued success.
I would like to be in position to make NFL-type money myself.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
He is a good player, just picked to go against Ohio State and payed for it. Not shocked that he is declaring early.
And Harbaugh confirmed today that Gary will not be playing in their bowl game.
Ohio State > *ichigan
Urban > Hairbaugh
He didn't play in their last game either...right??? HAHA
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Gone so SOON? Didn't even get a chance to know ya.
Signed: Beating Ohio State, The Big Ten Championship game, & the (ha) Playoffs!
