I have two things to add today. First:

Also, I love that we continue to honor Tressel for starting this insane run of victories over our former rival. He was right about this.

I’m still in shock at how well the LB’s played.  Hats off to them.  They’ve gotten a lot of grief this season.

Also, Prince played outstanding!  I was impressed with Munford as well.  They made Gary and Winkovich non-factors in the game.

David:  Small correxrion, Weber was wearing #5 yesterday.

Let’s all hope, however, that the LB (and overall defense) and OL play yesterday didn’t necessarily save 3 coaches’ jobs...

We will see next Sunday, don’t forget - after losing to VT in ‘14 we were 1-3 in the last 4 game so. Everyone wanted Fickell and Texas Tom out. Maybe our coming out party happened in week 12 instead of week 2 this time.

"Aaannnnd heeee's got an opening! Elliott! Off to the races can they catch him?! ... No they can't - touchdown! Eighty. Five. Yards!"

HS
jamesrbrown322's picture

Maybe. Only issue is that Davis has coached down the LBs for two solid seasons. UM just had no idea how to exploit it because doing so would take them out of their comfort zone.

Anyone notice where the linebackers lined up more often than not? Gave them time to read and react. Hope this is the defensive design going forward.

HS

I’m thinking this will be huge for Olave and future ttun games. He got more than a taste of what this means. Good for him.

Also, and part of me hates to go there, but the refs....man. It felt like we were playing them at times too. Hopefully this job they did gets reviewed.

The refs were really flag happy on both sides.

HS
Brutus's picture

Yet no flags for the two targeting non-calls, which is what they tend to be most flag happy about. The play against Haskins should have absolutely been called. The play against the TTUN tight end was a good non-call I think, but that’s the type of questionable play that usually goes against us.

HS
tbdbitlbuck's picture

I can't get over how fast we looked compared to TTUN. Our playmakers were outrunning them all day. Those crossing routes created mismatches with a slow LB corps and TTUN looked like they were just running in mud.

HS

It was almost jarring at times. Absolutely torched.

HS

My nephew mentioned that after the game he had heard Tressel on 97.1 The Fan say earlier in the week that xichigan looked slow on defense.  We all know that UFM looks for those weaknesses and exploits them again and again and again and again.  xichigan's D looked even slower in the 4th Q after chasing Ohio State players all game.

Now go beat northwestern and bring home the Silver Football.

HS
jamesrbrown322's picture

Hopefully they hold NW to less than half of what UM scored. The D made some timely plays, but it feels like they’re getting a pass because the offense was unstoppable. Any season includes a win over That Team is a good one. So, glad to see that happen and hope the Bucks can maintain the same focus they had yesterday. If they do, NW doesn’t stand a chance. If the team that played Minnesota, Maryland, and Nebraska reappears, it will be a barn burner.

The 14 pts that TTUN got at the end of the half were garbage. Questionable PI call and then the McCall muff. The 7 at the end of the game were in literal garbage time when Michigan was down 30

HS
stpetebuck's picture

The offense and the Dwayne Train are on a rampage. They should play three more games this way. If the defense can do enough and keep opponents in front of them this team rolls. This game proved they can simply outscore an opponent even with a top defense.  Plus the yards per rush are trending up with Haskins’ new found running gear. I’m Optimistic.

Go Bucks

Beat Northwestern!!! (TTUNW)

HS
LeftCoastBuckeye's picture

I was impressed with his run for the 1st down, when he didn't slide, and took the hit.  Good job Dwayne!  As others have mentioned, our speed advantage was just ridiculous.  We've spent weeks hearing how good Blue's d-backfield was, but they looked lost.  And their supposedly fearsome d-line with Gary, et. al?  Did they miss the bus, or something?  Someone's draft stock just tanked.

My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.   - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)

This game proved they can simply outscore an opponent even with a top defense.

How will the OL do with 5-star Wyatt Davis subbed for Meech? Meyer said Knox suffered a Lisfranc injury in his foot and is out for NW. Not sure if that is season-ending.

Will Haskins enjoy the same protection?

Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !

HS

Will Haskins enjoy the same protection?

Lets hope nw’s defense is a step down from ttun’s.  (80th passing defense, 50th total defense) But more importantly let’s reverse the trend of playing uninspired games against lesser opponents. It’s on the coaches to fire these kids up.

HS

Just like you said “wow”. This team played lights out and the coaches put the team in a great position.  Big credit to our defense who played extremely well including our d line and Malik Harrison who seemed to be all over the place. I thought our offensive line played incredible not giving up one sack to this defense and allowing time for our receivers to get down.

I'm pleased the Buckeyes did what we know they can do.

Rondale Moore plays for Purdue, not Michigan. Credit is not given to Moore by dickheads in the media.

Sheffield gave up scores, but was not beaten. He was actually decent. Werener was good in coverage, and I think that is where he belongs.

1. I posted it elsewhere, but they will change Campbell's 78 yd. TD to a pass. I was there and it clearly was a pop pass. Campbell also said so after the game. That will give Haskins six TD passes and 396 yards.

2. Haskins said he was "licking his chops" when he saw press coverage with one safety high. Isn't that OSU's base defense? If you don't have the personnel to run it, you are asking for disaster.

3. In addition to giving up big plays, if the officials are going to penalize a chase technique, why use it? That went for both teams yesterday. I'm not advocating a return to Withers' philosophy, but there has to be a happy medium.

Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

I replayed that play a few times and still couldn't tell if it was a pass it not. I'll be surprised if they change anything but curious to see.

There is a still photo of the exchange posted somewhere. Clearly a 'pass'.

Incredible win!  Don't know if I am more surprised or shocked. Congrats to both the coaches, who had the team ready, and the players who got the job done.  Still a few too many penalties but it sure beat giving up excessive big to huge plays. Have to put this one behind us and give the same attention to the championship game. Can't afford a let down now.

Based on the team/coach comments that I have read, I get the impression that ttun wasn’t about to alter its scheme one bit going into this game and the Buckeyes knew it.  ttun was ‘great’ going in; it was a recipe for season long success. You could certainly see that with all of the downhill hole-hitting that the LBs were doing at the snap.  They weren’t sitting back, reading the offense, getting caught up in the wash.

I’ll gladly take predictable game planning from ttun and a blowout like that any year.  Keep it up, Jimmy.  Congrats on the Golden Sombrero!

Totally agree.

"Guys -- they're up by three scores."

"Got it. Another fullback dive with some *tricky* motion should do it!"

HS
GOOMBAY's picture

I'll be the first to admit I never saw this coming. However, the writing was on the wall with the TTUN false start on 4th and 2 just a few drives in. Even at that point the close-ups were showing some shell-shocked gazes.

The muffed return made things dicey, but the speed on display on the crossing routes from the get-go seemed to set in motion a slow and steady bleeding of TTUN. It felt like the good guys would always be able to answer, if not pull away.

There was so much disbelief in the eyes of TTUN from top to bottom. It was joyous.

I'm fine with however the season ends, playoff run or not. Beat our rival handily & showed what this team is capable of.

The complete obliteration of ttun was enjoyable. What satisfied me the most, and I expect plenty others, is we played spoiler to their dreams. This certainly was their season & were a lock for a playoff run.

Has been a long while since we were able to not just beat them... but take away their dream season. Tasted delicious.

(Edit): Sincerely,

Someone who endured that exact thing too many times in the Cooper Era.

It was sweet to rip their hearts out. The smug arrogance out of them ever since they beat Sparty was unbelievable. They are the most obnoxious winners I've ever been around. I am so happy to have seen my team smack them around and put them back in their place. However I never want to see them with hope ever again.

BIGGEST QUESTION GOING FORWARD

"Will Ohio State be motivated to go out and play at a high level with everything on the line? "

(Will after this W be their next 'let-down'...this season was packed with them.)

Answer: ONLY Coach Urb, staff, & ballrs know & then we will all know at the end of next Sat's B1GC.

Thanks Coach, & Bucks for yesterday's "Happy Thanksgiving wkend Stomping," for your selves, & all Buck Nation's faithful !

+ 1 thanks for the write-up David.

My gawd, but I was proud of our guys yesterday. If they go into the Northwestern game with the same attitude and attention to detail, then I feel sorry for the Wildcats. This said, (and I realize that the refs had a horrible day on Saturday) the Buckeyes CANNOT have as many penalties against NW as they did against Michigan. The Bucks must have given up 150 yards worth of them. I think that Northwestern is consistently the least penalized team in the FBS, to the tune of about 3 per game. Clean up those malfractions, and the Buckeyes have a great shot at a victory.

HS
jdjgrant's picture

Correct. 15 Penalties for 150 yards.

Great job Buckeyes ! Nine units strong showed up yesterday. Stay focused and hungry, because Northwestern is  dangerous team they have nothing to lose against an east team that should be picked to dominate. In recent years Fitz gets his boys ready for us and he will certainly attack the gaps unlike  meat chicken. Best part of yesterday was our defense looked physical all game long. Great job O line especially Prince he was highly motivated. Next week smaller atlhletic d lineman get ready !

My takes:

- Paris Campbell is still accelerating away from those defenders
- Could have stood to see a bit more effort finishing near the sideline first down markers. Seemed like a lot of the time we were standing straight up getting pinballed out of bounds a yard short instead of even trying to dive for it, etc.
- Did Winovich even play? He was such a non-factor I have to assume the injury kept him from flying around and making hard tackles or getting a swim move off.
- Would have liked to see a review on their first TD. I think it might have moved as it touched the ground as he went down. If so then the muffed kickoff doesn't happen either.
- Malik had himself a game (Borland had more tackles, Malik had more wow moments).
- F-ing penalties, man (both called and uncalled).
- I love how our D plays against a pro-style offense but we don't see too many and I'm not holding my breath we've fixed things (but man was it fun watching them go yesterday).
- (EDIT: In addition to the fantastic performance of the O-Line:) We had a great scheme to take away the blitz they've lived by all season. Haskins' jersey ended up cleaner than it started.
- This Olave kid has a bright future.
- I heard Willis McGahee and Jonathan Vilma were throwing a party to celebrate the end of the Revenge Tour but I guess it got cancelled too.

Who is this Rorschach guy and why does he paint so many pictures of my parents fighting?

Final score actually flatters scUM considering we basically gave them a TD before HT, they scored a TD in garbage time and we took a knee around their 10 yard line to end the game-was kinda hoping we would score go for 2 and make it 70!

Go Bucks!
