I don't think this is even close. Mike Dantoni (h/t DJ) always does more with less.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
For some reason, first thing on my Christmas list is for someone to just take him to the SEC or better program so he can leave us alone. I mean mark dantonio and not the Houston basketball coach.
Franklin as a coach on game day might be one of the bottom feeders in all of the B10. I said many times he can recruit but can't coach and it shows this year when he lost the meat of his staff that really made his teams go.
Who's taken their program to a cfb playoff?
There's your sign.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
And got blown out 40-0. Harbough has a chance to make the playoff and actually win a game. Harbough is a much better recruiter whether he has sleepovers or not. Weird. But if he stays around for any amount of time I think everyone will see hes a much better coach than dantonio. And james Franklin? Lmao. That's just laughable. Go Bucks
"The minute I think I'm getting mellow, I'm retiring. Whoever heard of a mellow winner."
LOL- you think they would have any shot vs Bama? Not a chance. Probably same result as MSU. Need a dominant O line to beat Bama... And Dantonio has multiple conference championships and wins vs OSU which Harbaugh obviously has none.
If a dominant O-Line is needed, then I guess that also rules OSU out.
Circumstantial evidence doesnt count here!
Is Harbaugh a better recruiter or is the program a better recruiter?
Dantonio has won recruiting battles MSU should not win vs TSUN.
Thank you Urban Meyer and Gene Smith
Brady Hoke was a better recruiter than Harbaugh, as well.
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
That's fair (getting blown out), but they still made it.
Maybe the basis for a more detailed discussion elsewhere, and maybe I'm biased (translation: abso-fucking-lutely I am), but I'll take Dino over the 'baugh every time - no bullshit with the guy, and has done much more with less.
If (god forbid) TTUN makes it to the CFP, they'll get blown out by Bama the same way MSU got blown out.
Hatbaugh's a better recruiter than who? Dantonio? Remember, some programs somewhat recruit themselves, and as bad as ttun has been for the last 10+ years, kids still want to go there and "restore the glory". Dantonio doesn't get many top recruits at all, which is what makes him the better coach IMO.
And what is your body of evidence to support that? Michigan recruits top 5 classes year in and year out and has won nothing in over a decade (literally nothing). Michigan State is lucky to get a top 20 class. Yet here we are, still in the upper echelon of the BIG 10 every year. Harbaugh is a hack and so are scUM fans.
OK, when I first read this question I interpreted it as asking who was better than Urban Meyer.
If that was the question, would you take Dantonio’s in game coaching over Meyer’s, in a one game, winner takes all scenario?
Are you nuts? Urban is a 3X NC coach.
Not really. Meyer gets all the credit, and rarely the blame and he’s stubborn to a fault!
How often do we see (on the field) where adjustments are made as needed.
Could be wrong, but it tends to look like Meyer’s approach is, this is my plan and I’m sticking to it, ala MSU @ Home in 2015, the 2016 Fiesta Bowl and Iowa as recent examples.
As someone else said, Dantonio does more with less; to that end, I’d say that Meyer is quite capable of doing less with more, and has done so.
When Dantonio gets 3 NCs I will pick him. Otherwise Im sticking w Urban.
This Buckeye team has been in the National Championship conversation every single season since Urban got there.
Well, that was easy.
ONE Not Done!
Dantonio. Not even close at this point.
Agreed. Not even debatable.
Dantonio. But i dont think harbaugh is as far back as we may have hoped.
This is a fun one. I don't know Harbaugh. Except to say that he isn't a winner yet. Dantonio is a force in the Big 10. Respectable at least. I picked James Franklin. He came into Penn State when there were a lot of questions about the future. He has gotten them ready to compete with the Buckeyes regular since. I think he was just what Penn State needed. He's probably not as smart as Dantonio. No one talks about the Spartans though. Penn State has a larger fan base I think. Tougher job, higher profile...etc. Man, Big 10 east is a mini disaster for those involved. Especially cause the drive-bys give no credit. So yeah, I picked Franklin.
Depends on what "coach" means. In the traditional sense, it is Dantonio hands down.
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
Dantonio might be the best coach in the NCAA if we consider the talent discrepancies. No-brainier he's #1 in this poll.
The question is who is the better coach in the B10 East. Mark Dantonio and its not even close.
Harbaugh gets 2nd place, because of his success at Stanford though.
And even James Franklin is far behind Harbaugh.
The best part is .................... it's not even close.
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Good morning and Happy Friday SL!!
Dantonio is checking in at 80% presently and look how happy he is...
Shoot, he'll still find a way to use the disrespect card!!
"Defiance in Silence"
Wow, never seen him so excited.
He is definately the master of the diss. With what happened this year with ttun, that's gonna make the little brother remark look like a school yard chant.
Apparently we still have a few Nits hanging around from Not Our Rival week, because no way Franklin should have ANY votes here
Leave one wolf alive....and the sheep are never safe
no way Franklin should have ANY votes here
You mean its not great coaching when he called a time out at this point in the game to ice the kicker to preserve the shut out?
Jimmy from Happy Valley can play it however he sees fit but watch out.
Karma kicked in last week when the Sleep Over Skunk Weasels put the 42-7 beat down on James Franklin and his Nittany Kittens, right?!?
McShorty just isnt living up to the hype. I said last year at this time McShorty will make a good HS coach.
He truly believes that notching a shutout against Ga St is part of how you get from 'great' to 'elite.'
Easy, Dantonio by default. :-)
I think it's funny how people around here both revile Bollman but also have admiration for Dantonio. /thinkingemoji
Dantonio consistently does more with less. Easy choice.
Dantonio is a bad recruiter (at least compared to his Big Ten East peers), which is the only reason he's never brought his team to a national championship game. If Dantonio could recruit at the level of Meyer/Harbaugh/Franklin, MSU would be a consistent top 5 program with Dantonio.
"porque las estirpes condenadas a cien años de soledad no tenían una segunda oportunidad sobre la tierra."
No but that would ruin his reputation of doing more with less!
Dantonio seems to get the best out of his guys. But ,recruiting is a major component of being a college football coach and not many, ( Saban and Dabo ) do it better than Urban. I don't believe Urban is the best in-game coach though. Too many blowout losses to inferior teams.
I went with Franklin. Since the comparison is between these three, I just decided to go with how their teams have done the last few years when they have all been coaching in the same division (instead of factoring in Vandy and Stanford years), and PSU has been better than the other 2. If you go by coaching up players I would go with Dantonio, if its recruiting then Harbaugh.
