Type A coach at the institution he's always wanted to coach at? He'll be around for a while longer, folks.
Pray for potatoes with a hoe in your hand.
Better get tested for low T...and the O-line.
What we need now is a pissed off Meyer. Kinda like the one who trashed the Buckeyes in 2006 and marched through Bama in 2014.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
So what you are really doing is saying he is pissed off when he wins but not otherwise?
You are entitled to you own opinion, not your own facts.
That's your version of what he says, but nowhere in his dialogue does he says he doesn't win when he isn't angry; also the numbers suggest he loses way less than you think.
Exactly, Philly! In 06, no one gave that team a snowballs chance in inferno of making the Natty let alone winning it. We all recall how that turned out. In 14, after the loss to VaTech, same thing. I know this team has the talent, let’s see if we can get our act together.
Are you sure about that? What's Urban supposed to say?
And Toledo still sucks.
That's a Buckeye touchdown!
Thank you Urban Meyer and Gene Smith
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Good-Glad to hear.... the social media pot stirring can now stop.
Enjoying daily the back to back ttun beatdowns.
Agree 100%. But it won't...
Especially after Hue Jackson got canned.
Ignorance isn't bliss for the rest of us.
Don't be so sure that another coach started that to help with their recruiting.
"The most important statistic, is the number of wins in a season".........Woody Hayes
But Bret McFartbreath said he wouldn’t be coaching here next year....as well as Paul Assbaum.
I forget what the Vegas odds were. Wish I had put a c-note on Meyer staying.
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
He planned to beat Purdue.
hopefully he means the browns
Thumbs up for making me laugh.
Vires Et Honestas
Short and to the point. Nuff said.
Everybody wants to be heard, and the easiest way to be the loudest is to be the hater
"I want Ohio State to be successful in the worst way," Meyer explained. "I don't want people to worry about me."
All I need to hear (read).
Fix 'em up, coach...go Buckeyes.
He'll learn a LOT from these past seasons and improve for it. The recruiting and the coaching will stay great, and likely improve. I think Luke and Coombs caught him off guard. They caught me off guard. I thought they might be lifers for us. So I can't blame Meyer for having to turn to his friends there. I think he did the best he could, which is better than most could.
Coombs maybe, but I think everyone knew Fick wanted to be a head coach.
Agree there, but I guess we all kinda expected Fickell to not catch Urban off guard. It was just a little surprising when he left, not that he left. I think they thought he might stay another year or so.
This has me feeling encouraged
Honestly, I needed this. He has seemed a little detached and Im glad he’s still passionate about th buckeyes. I really hope we see a new team this week.
If Meyer gets his groove back, I'm happy with this.
The 2018 edition of Meyer has left much to be desired. He seems distracted, indecisive, and reactive rather than proactive, and he doesn't seem to be getting the most out of his assistants.
"porque las estirpes condenadas a cien años de soledad no tenían una segunda oportunidad sobre la tierra."
I think he's surprised, like somebody sucker-punched him with how bad they've been on defense and in the run game.
Never place a bet on anything that can talk.
Interesting perception: you may be right.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
If you missed the Formative Time of your child's life anything would surprise you about that kid!!! Thank you Dr. Drake and the AYOs.
Getting your name dragged through the mud for a couple of months would take a toll on anyone.
Sooner or later it all gets real.
Yep. Every best laid plan he had built up over 20+ years of successful head coaching got blown to shit this year. Anyone would be playing catch-up to some degree and feel like they were running just to stand still.
We often take for granted at what a high level programs like most of the Power 5 run at, and thus how much of success is related to the small details and distinctions. We all lapped up the narrative of how great Urban was because the team didn't miss a beat while he was gone, and while there is plenty of truth there, it isn't the whole truth. The competition is too good to not have missing the coach for a couple of months have an impact. By way of example, does anyone think we would have gone 6-7 if Tressel had been there instead of Fickel (no slam on Fickel, but at that point he wasn't Tressel, a point I think even he would agree to).
I hope that after the season he takes a week, goes to someplace warm with a nice beach and does some thinking about what happened and how he wants to go forward. I don’t blame him if he feels like the higher-ups at the university threw him under the bus, but if he hangs on to that anger it becomes bitterness and will hurt him, his family, and his team. Get it out of your system and let it go, ready for a fresh start in 2019,
And maybe revisit his views on what loyalty really looks like.
I guess I'm indifferent about it all. I like Urban and have been a big supporter in the past, but recently it seems he, his staff and the team mails at least one game in each year. So the luster has been lost for me. Whether he coaches next year or the next ten doesnt really get me going one way or the other. We will be somewhere between a really good team and almost Alabama just like 5 to 6 other teams in the nation. Same as it has been the last few years.
That's right, that's right, we bad
So we lose one game a year and it’s causes you to lose your luster? Sheesh
No we lose one game a year against an inferior team. That causes me to lose my luster.
Seems a bit thin-skinned eh?
It is college football. Anything can happen. That's why they play the games.

What movie is that from?
Barf, can you work Devo into the gif and “Whip it good”?
Update: looks like I was too late
Can we stop with the sky is falling shit?
No? Didn't think so
Good. Block all this other crap out, get to work on waxing Nebraska, and start/continue the planning for TTUN. I want to win this year's Game like no other version.
Yep- spank them again!
This year's Game has me worried. This is their best chance in a long time.
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
They have to defend the Horseshoe!! Hell, they have to defend Ohio!
Obviously some of us(me) take this $hit (too) seriously!!
Enjoy the wins over *ichigan, ....I still remember the dark days of the 1990's....
No such thing.
SUCK IT PAWLLLL
I want a fall Saturday in Ohio Stadium..
Urban plans on coaching next year.
There's an opening in Cleveland.
Connect the dots...
But you probably right
And there might be an opening in Oklahoma too.....
He will never go to the NFL and said so many times.
Did you miss the part where he said he'll be coaching THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES?
I'm with you on this Scarletblood.
How DARE you?
What is WRONG with you?

Great point..... except the questions was will he be the coach for the Buckeyes in 2019
Don't get Stuck on Stupid
Glad to know he is committed to the Buckeyes. Hopefully that commitment leads to some honest evaluations of his current coaching staff and a willingness to make some changes where needed.
Thank you for your sane comment.
That's the only answer I think we as fans wanted/needed to hear.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
"Let's beat the shit out of Michigan. Have a good night." - UFM
Hoping lots of fans have this attitude Saturday as they root hard for the Buckeyes.
Becky approves! Alll-right!
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
Now if Drake would step down for being a coward we can right the ship.
Can you let us enjoy this moment in peace please...?
I don’t understand how this comment got DV’s because you are 110% right. If this whole Zach Smith fiasco didn’t happen this season might have been a lot different.
Go Buckeyes and Go Lightning!
I don’t understand how this comment got DV’s because you are 110% right. If this whole Zach Smith fiasco didn’t happen this season might have been a lot different.
Don't agree with the DV's, but it's not Drake's fault Zach Smith was a fuggin train wreck of a human being. He should have be canned a LONG time ago...that's on Meyer, not Drake.
Are you this clueless about everything?
I don’t think his answer was very convincing , it was completely non-committal. He was looking directly at the ground when he answered the first time.
"Vitalum Vitalis "
Love Meyer and I’m glad he shot down the retirement rumors...at the same time, nah man you look 20 years older during games. Everything has been getting to him since the offseason.
THAT'S MY COACH!
There you go coach! Suck on that Pawwwl...!
Fields of Dreams
Going to be a party pooper and I hope he never leaves but what else would he say? He is under contract and being paid big bucks. It would kill recruiting if he said anything different. I wonder if any would decommit if he said this was his last year?
It's the only answer he CAN give, regardless of what his intentions are.
Maybe Dobbins will get tired. Michigan Man, 11-30-2019
Totally Agee as that is the bottom line!
Always and forever, Go Bucks!
I hope Im wrong, but I don’t believe it just yet. Urban says lots of shit, example - Playing Freshman, Tate Martell packages, going to fix things and so on and so on. Just don’t put all your eggs in one basket people, only time will tell. Like I said, I hope I’m wrong cause I love the Urban Meyer Era and wish him well. Go Bucks!
"Urban Meyer lied to all our faces today. I've already reported that he is leaving at the end of the season, so why would he lie? Ohio State's football program is out of control and the NCAA really needs to look into them closer"
- Paul Finebaum, 4pm
Leave one wolf alive....and the sheep are never safe
F&$@ finebaum !
- Also Paul Finebaum, 4:05pm
I wounder why Pawwwl doesn't say the same about Alabama. I wonder if he is having an affair with Bret McFartbreath ?
Out of control? Where in the hell did THAT come from? I used to think he was on the up and up, but that statement is just ridiculous.
Sorry ladies, you’ll have to wait on Matt Campbell as your next coach. You can, however, go back to worrying about Nebraska
I appreciate the fact that Meyer went out and said that he would be back but that’s not going to stop the national narrative pushers. They’re already tweeting about how his statement doesn’t hold any water. I’m not sure there’s any other college in the country that is hated more than Ohio State by these so-called objective journalists.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
Ohio against the world.
Great post. And I love the Ric Flair. I've caught some of that narrative pushing in this site. Bummer.
Bama is hated as much if not more.
The answer was kinda of open ended in that Urban, Smith, Drake and associates are going to have to sit down and hash out a few things. First thing that needs to get settled is does the university as a whole still support Urban as coach in totality and even though what happened with the the Zach Smith controversy still can lead to all parties working as a cohesive unit against? Other things to consider is how OSU is playing down the stretch because at the end of the day win's and losses is what it's all about and here lately OSU has looked downright pathetic team and coaching wise. Idk if Urban will be on the sidelines next year with osu because it's so many moving parts unfortunately.
Was that a football press meeting or a focking medical meeting.
Hey reporters ask about football will ya.
Exactly. Urban has a migraine and suddenly some people irrationally come to the conclusion that he has greater health problems. And if he was to rant and rave on the sideline because of bad play, the cameras catch it all, and the critics would say he is unhinged. So he remains in control of his outward emotions and then these critics say he looks "anguished."
He can't control that narrative either way. What a bunch of nonsense! Winning now becomes the only way to take care of all that BS and to shut some people up.
I'd rather be a minute early than an hour early, 'cause I like to procrastinate.
If he didn't want to be here he would've walked away in August when the university threw him under the bus. He's gone through a lot and I hope the team gives him some positive energy and more reasons to be fired up about coaching.

WHAT DOUBLEDOWN BULLSHIT ? YOU PULLED MY POST ABOUT THIS LAST WEEK just to publish it today, you guys need to get your testicles out of your mouth so you can read ! talk about soviet travitskia ! OH I'm SORRY I didn't know I was publishing for Pravda !
Just so we’re clear, you posted last week about comments that Urban Meyer made at today’s press conference?
Can you please send me those winning Power Ball numbers while you’re seeing the future?

Anybody else read these in an accent (while screaming)? Just me?
Now, I love freedom of speech, but you are a little out of context. My $.02
What in theee hell is going on around here?
I am so very glad to hear this. I wonder if Harrison had anything to do with this? So much noise this year and yet we are 7-1 with a lot of room for improvement. We still are one of the top 5 programs in the country. Hopefully with this news we reel in some more big fish this recruiting cycle.
Likely recruiting is at least a little part of the motivation. I know it is very hard to believe, but sometimes coaches from other teams make up falsehoods about OSU coaches. Coach Johnson comes to mind!
Good luck to all of the coaches, good luck to all of the players!
Winning will solve all this nonsense!!!
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
I hope this isn't the dreaded 'vote of confidence' type of rhetoric.
That usually comes from the owner/boss. If Gene Smith had said that yes that would be cause for concern.
"You're the patron saint of the totally effed" - Hot Tub Time Machine
Yeah like when Gene told us Tressel was the head coach, and then we watched him get canned.
"I plan on coaching," Meyer said when he was asked if he would return next season.
"I plan on cheering my ass off," Major H said when he heard Urban was returning next season. All is right in the world! Go Buckeyes!
For looks of these responses a lot of fair weather fans who were calling him to please going away are jumping back on the wagon.
Him not returning only makes those 2 dipshits Finnebaum and MClovin look like geniuses. That simply cannot happen,.
He looks like he is trying to stay calm. Not the same fire in his demeanor...
URBAN is smart he had reporter ask that question to clear the air get back to football, a to b !!!!!
I can't believe people are seriously asking this question.
Thank you Urban, You know I've been defending you for a long time on this site. This is all the response I needed. Boom! oh, and up yours Feinbaum, you dick!
"When you're part of a team, you stand up for your teammates. Your loyalty is to them. You protect them through good and bad, because they'd do the same for you." Yogi Berra
Hopefully coach Meyer is happy with his high paid job. He can't be happy that this team can't run block or consistently play defense well. We have many problems and no open mind calling the shots.
Day / Wilson should call 99% of the offensive plays. Currently they're probably calling 35% and we're entirely predictable *again *.
Differently predictable is still bad. Let Day do his job and we will improve immediately. Time on your hands ? Your defense is an absolute mess. Manage million dollar coordinators and position coaches. They're failing on your watch.
You are 100% wrong on the 35%, almost every play is called by Day, and to be honest, it's hard to argue with the results. The Buckeyes are 8th in the nation in points, and 3rd in yards and they move the ball at will, until they get to the red zone. RedZone is the only problem, on offense.
This is where Meyer should take over, in the Red Zone, and my gut tells me he will be doing that to some extent. I would imagine Wilson being in the booth, will also take over more of the playcalling as long as Day is on the field. I heard rumors he is going to the booth, we'll see this week...
The Buckeyes are 8th in the nation in points, and 3rd in yards and they move the ball at will, until they get to the red zone. RedZone is the only problem, on offense.
If only. I sense that you're a strong OSU supporter, but have you noticed the run game is pretty sub-par?
Of course, don't get me wrong. This is a serious issue, but lack of running the ball has not been as big an issue between the 20's, it's basically unneeded as the field is stretched vertically, with haskins arm, and the short passing game. In the red zone however, it is a glaring weakness.
Greetings from another Buckeye living in Florida. Although I acknowledge all of your suggestions, don't you think this season still has a hangover lingering from the Smith debacle? Can you imagine the stress of that mess going on while coaching at Ohio State with our expectations? He is still dealing with that mess to some degree, I am sure. Yes, you are correct about some of the coordinator decisions but I believe we owe coach a little latitude here. I am not happy with the obvious problems either but I am thrilled that he plans to return next season. Everybody has a bad day, week or even a year. Heck, it might take until next season to fix some of these issues but I am on board. Let's hope we're all happy after The Game. Peace.

finebaum should stick to sec stuff and end his crusade against urban.. clueless. its a dead horse move on.
He told them at florida he would be back too!! Not sure I care what he says but rather what he does...I say he is gone!!
They all ain't getting along in WH ATHLETIC CENTER!!
The things I would do to see urban fist punch the air
*Message disapproved by Mark May*
Did any of you actually watch that press conference? It was rough. He's clearly distracted and disappointed, and I don't blame him. If my boss raked me over the coals the way Smith and Drake did him, then I would be pissed too. I'm glad for the kids that he has stuck out this far into the season. But honestly everything from that conference indicates the dude is not happy and probably gone. If you have to answer that sort of question then there's obviously an issue. Watch the first 4 minutes of the conference and then come back and post a comment.
Yep, and if that means we keep Day, then let him go. Loved and his enthusiasm when he was first hired, and still think he is a great coach and human being, but Day is the future.
I don’t think this is the end of the discussion on Urban’s future at OSU. I do think he has health concerns, and perhaps other issues, that are affecting his coaching and the team’s performance this year. I get that he’s wants to be the coach of OSU, but there may be other issues complicating that desire. I think the team will continue struggle the rest of this season and I do think Urban leaves at the end of the season. If there wasn’t the history of Urban at Florida I might be more optimistic.

"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
Hate to be that guy, but this confirms absolutely nothing.
What the hell is he supposed to say to some schmuck asking him this question during a presser in the middle of the season?
Like he's gonna say "yah, man, now that you mention it, I'd like to take a moment and let Gene and Drake and buckeye nation, our players and all the recruits know that I'm done after this season". Wtf.
Of course he's going to say he's gonna keep coaching.
No part of me wants him gone. But this confirms jack shit.
Not that I disagree with your point, but, you haven't heard someone say something to the effect of "I'm focused on the team right now and we'll evaluate things in the offseason, blah, blah, blah..."? Sort of in the same manner that he answers questions after games about why the offense is unbalanced, why the defense gives up big plays. I'm just saying I think a lot of people here could have imagined something like that so they are glad to read or hear that he is simply saying, yes I'll be back.
You were suspended for having a staff member who's been in a horrible and sad relationship and it permeated to your professional backyard. But at the same time, you were founded out for someone who's perceived to be a fan of nepotism and favoritism, rightly or wrongly. Then, your star player, Nick Bosa, QUITS THE TEAM! you've just gotten your left recruiting nut sack severed.
yes. it's a lot. and it does impact you mentally, psychologically, and emotionally.

And never breathe a word about your loss;"
Amazing how many sports "journalists" out there apparently have a medical degree AND a PhD in Psychology, quite impressive.
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
I came on here expecting to see 106 "BOOMS"...uh oh, I meant 107
Frankly, Meyer's health and demeanor have concerned me lately. Then, I consider the manner in which Day handled the team and the pressure earlier this season, Day's age, Day's expertise, and the fact that teams have already come calling for him, and I wonder if it would not be better for all concerned, including the program overall and the fans, if we locked in Day sooner rather than later. If that requires a short timeline for Meyer's exit, so be it. But I DEFINITELY do not want to see Day sign with another team! At this point, would trade a few years during the twighlight of Meyer's career for the certainty of retaining Day.
Stupid rumor. Stupid question. Stupid that it has become the top story of every Buckeye-reporting site.
this whole team is falliing apart
Well, that puts an end to that nonsense, quit listening to the talking heads, they know nothing, they are in it for speculation and website hits.
When asked if he could say for sure he would return as Ohio State's head coach next season, Meyer offered a simple, definitive response: "Yes."
From your lips to the Inscrutable Immutable's ears, Urban.
Go Bucks. Win November.
I am not very smart, but I recognize that I'm not very smart. --- W.W. Hayes
Do I think hes leaving? No. But did y'all honestly think he was going to say "Nah, I'm out of here at the end of the year." "Later suckas!" (?) . Recruits would be bailing like Rats on a sinking ship, and the current team would lay goose eggs the rest of the year!
Live from Nowhere in Particular....
I do not count on this series of statements by Meyer to be meaningful in any other way save that I appreciate him not hurting the program with an answer of yes I am out of here, I deeply thank him for that kindness to an institution who has meant so very much to him and me yet another truth is we never know the moment we are done with a situation save in hindsight - Yet we always remember how we felt!
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
Jim Tressel...where art thou? Fuck the NCAA. What they and the admin did to coach Tressel was bullshit. “He broke a rule”. Fck you. Rules are made by people. And people err. Kids who earned their rewards can’t trade those reward for tatoos? WTF? Private property is a fundamental foundation to the principles of liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If it’s mine, I kinda get to do with it whatever the Fck I want to. As long as it’s not gonna harm anyone physically.
One more time....Fck the NCAA and the admin for what they did with coach Tressel. “He knew the rules and he broke it.” Well, Fck you. Many people knew that harbouring Jews in Germany during the fckmaniac Nazis era was “against the rules/law”. But thank fuck there were at least people who had thebckmmon decency and sense to know that some rules are just idiotic and have real life consequences, some of which happened to be quite fcking serious.
Have another drink Yoda. Love J.T. to death but he committed the ultimate sin....lying to the NCAA. And don’t give me the BS about an FBI investigation. J.T. went and laid in bed with Pryor and paid for it. It’s his fault and SUCKS that he was let go.
You've come a long way from quoting Kipling.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
I'm not saying he's leaving, but this means literally nothing.
I am glad we didn't hear the dreaded
1. 110 percent committed
2. OSU is my dream school
3. Shutting down his recruitment and not taking any other visits.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, he wouldn’t have fought like hell to keep his job during the Zach Smith BS, just to retire after the season. Son in law is a GA on the team. His daughters live and work and in Cubs, and his son is right down 71S. I think he’s here for a while longer. At least until he gets his son in law on his feet in the coaching world
meh...what'd you expect?
"yes. i'm quitting."???????
coach is good til he wins another ring. go out on top!
Urban needs to remain at OSU at least for another 7 years, which would give him 14, one more than John Cooper. In all seriousness, I hope Urban is our coach for years and years.
Nothing against Ryan Day, but he is not Urban, and he never will be.
Bucks fans in Mass
He had no choice but to say ‘yes’. You don’t go out and say ‘No I’m done after this year’ - that’d be crapping on the team and saying goodbye to all the incoming recruits.
Still don’t think he’s coming back next year (especially without major coaching changes) with how he’s looked this year. His comments put an end to nothing
He will let attrition take care of some of the staff changes, and make some more himself. I look for Schiano to move on, and Studwara to helped along in his move on if he doesn't leave before hand. If Rutgers fires Ash, it would be great to have him back. He made a huge difference. I think a long, hard look needs to be taken at Bill Davis as well. We've had steadily declining play at the LB position since Fickell left for Cinci.
Winning out would cure whatever is ailing Urban, same as the rest of us.
He just looks and acts like a different guy. I just can't believe the suspension and all the side stories about z.s hasn't affected him. Everything rises and falls on leadership. I hope this team is being led by a fiery, passionate coach we know Urban to be.
