You like Navy + the points tonight?
No. They’re bad this year and ND is legitimately good.
Michigan States really the only team that’s screwed us over more than once in the Urban Era so I’ll go with them.
"Medicine is not a science" - Leo Spaceman
Three times: Big Ten CCG, 2015 regular season, and by beating UM and losing to Nebraska in the same season.
Michigan gets that punt off the Buckeyes have another natty
you don't got to be Stonewall Jackson to know you don't want to fight in a basement
Don't forget their game against Penn State in 2016. When we needed them to pull an upset out of their ass they laid an egg instead. I hate them with every fiber of my being.
Penn State < Dream Crusher
Makes last Saturday's L look even more ridiculous..
No, it proves both teams last week were out of character. I fully acknowledge the "glaring" problems.
Adrian Martinez and Stanley Morgan Jr/ JD Spielman. are going to eat the buckeyes defense alive next week. It is going to be a repeat of Blough/Moore.
Wow Buckeyes lose one game and suddenly Nebraska are a high octane hellbeast offense.
"porque las estirpes condenadas a cien años de soledad no tenían una segunda oportunidad sobre la tierra."
Umm have you seen our defense this year? They make everyone's offense look good. Also Nebraska has a very good offense. They had 659 yards of offense last week.
There's something to be said for form and momentum, and yeah, Nebraska are probably better than their 1-6 (soon to be 2-6) record indicates. That said, if there's one thing I'm confident about with this OSU team right now it's that they'll be able to take down a not very good Nebraska team at home.
Objectively I am not super confident about Nebraska. I think we'll win, but I wouldn't put a ton of money on it. They killed Minnesota...
and if we are truly honest Minnesota had a real chance to beat OSU. They had three turnovers, two of which was in the red zone, missed two field goals and got jobbed on a spot in the first quarter that would have given them the ball back at midfield leading already. The Bucks were leading by six going into the fourth quarter and scored two late TD's to put the game away and make it look more lopsided than it was.
I think we'll win if they made some improvements on defense. If they didn't it would shock me one bit to see em lose.
I'm not saying I think we'll lose I'm just saying I would bet that nebraska puts up at least 30.
I agree. I’d put Spielman in the slot and run to the vacated area (where linebackers should be) and attack Pryor all game. Purdue did it, Minnesota did it and Indiana did it and we haven’t adjusted once. Why not?
Honestly I hope Purdue wins out, and not just because it would make our loss look less egregious. Them winning the B1G West would be a beautiful sports story.
Same. Lot of respect for Brohm
Well it’s tied....so I wouldn’t say they are Purdueing it quite yet
"I love football. I think its the most wonderful game in the world and I despise to lose" - Woody Hayes
Michigan State has legit defensive coaching that know how to scheme and can adjust. Ohio State does not.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
Yeah thru 3qts, Purdue has 190 yards offense, against the Bucks , they had 500+.
That is the reality of the OSU defense. There is no sugar coating it, OSU 's defense is not even middle of the road in the Big 10.
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
Watching their defense shut them down over and over, limit big plays, etc, is killing me. Knowing the level of athletes we have compared to MSU, this is gross to watch and remember how awful we looked.
Reality is that it's all simple fundamentals that we ignored.
Moved to College Sports.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
"Rocky Lombardi" may be the ultimate sports name.
Is Lewerke injured?
He was injured for the Michigan game last week and they played him limited anyway. Dantonio’s stubbornness cost him big. Lombardi might have been more effective.
I rarely look at these games for comparisons. Ohio St always get conference teams best shots and almost always have a hangover.
“I have yet to be in a game where luck was involved. Well-prepared players make plays. I have yet to be in a game where the most prepared team didn't win.” - Urban Meyer
This is not and was never a reason or excuse for why teams play well against us.
We just have to accept that OSU has one of the worst defenses in the B1G. We have given up big yards against nearly every opponent we have played.
That says more about us than our opponents.
It’s not excusing the flaws this team has.
That said, anyone with perspective understands that these are 18-22 year old kids (most on the lower end of that window). Emotions play a bigger role in this game than most admit.
Not accepting that also says more about a fan’s awareness than about the players.
Michigan State is showing us how to stop Purdue. Keeping the plays in front of them and reading and reacting.
Can't be done when the LBs are starting on the line of scrimmage 85% of the time.
But by reading first then reacting the defense cannot make the big highlight reel play! S/
Seeing where the play is going before you commit is overrated. It takes real courage to run to spot where the play may or may not be!
MSU has a superior defense scheme. They play a quarters, zone blitz,4-3 base defense. OSU is a man free agreesive defense susceptible to big plays.
The more I'm watching this game the more I'm convinced this is Urban's last year here at OSU. This is a terrible team we got destroyed by in Purdue that will indeed go on to get destroyed by MSU which tells me the coaches at OSU weren't and aren't even trying at this point.
Really wasn’t that hard to figure out how to stop Purdue. Disappointing that our coaches were too stubborn to do it
The D actually hung in there for 3 quarters and two of their TDs came after special teams blunders. I wonder if the D just gave up in the 4th or were worn down form being on the field so much.
A good coach knows how to adjust their scheme to combat the team they’re matched up against. This staff has struggled with this all year. MSU knows what they’re doing when it comes to this as they have proven against us several times in the past.
Total agreement actionstanley. Don't know why OSU has to actually lose a game before any type of schematic changes occur.
Interested to hear, do you guys think it's better if Purdue or Michigan State wins this one? I kind of hope Michigan State wins to keep us more focused and afraid of them when we play them.
We made Blough look like Johnny Unitas.
MSU makining him look like Johnny Weir.
Cant wait to see Schiano put our MAC level LBs back out there against Nebraska. Lets ignore only the great Kent State and UConn defenses have given up more big plays than OSU.
The incompetent defensive coaches - Schiano and Davis should have been fired.
Maybe Urban just doesnt care because he is leaving anyway.
Dont agree with everything you said but I’ll agree that Davis needs to go and by proxy Schiano’s scheme has looked awful with a ton of talent on that side of the ball.
This "MAC level" comment in regards to our LB's is getting old man. You keep saying it over and over on these forums.
Mark Dantonio is twice the football coach Urban Meyer is, but he's not 1/10th the recruiter. I finally figured out (I'm slow) why Meyer is so irritating to many of his coaching brethren... he wins because he's the best talent accumulator not because he's a good football coach, and that bothers the holy dog snot out of the football guys.
When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's
You obviously did not watch Meyer coach Utah to an undefeated season or take a 7 loss team OSU team to a 12-0 record.
Plus I guess you never watched Dantonio run the ball up the middle 30 times against Bama and lose 38-0. Or go 3-9 two years ago. Dantonio is a slug.
Utah Meyer and current day Meyer are two different guys. Things change, people are passed by, once innovative philosophies become ingrained and are present day failures, and motivations fade. Meyer is failing this team and program, and he has been since August. Can he return to what he once was? I hope so, I don't want him to go anywhere... and if you think Dantonio is a 'slug' then I'd say you're misinformed.
I also don't understand why people bring up things that happened over a decade ago. Meyer isn't even the same coach from 3 years ago.
Why in the world does Buckeye Nation start romanticizing every other program and coach after a single loss? Legit question.
Dantonio and co lost to a lousy ASU team (with less talent) and almost to Utah St. They’re 4-3. Quit the hagiography of Dantonio and support the guy who has one of the winningest records in the sport. Young team...they’ll bounce back.
Because alot of fans still hate Meyer after he beat their Dantonio clone boy Tressel by 30 pts in the NC game.
Dantonio looks like he has a terminal case of bad hemorroids.
I respect Dantonio a ton. He is a really good coach. He does usually look like someone just let a horrible fart.
"Everyone has a plan, 'til they get punched in the mouth."
We were the youngest team in America when Clemson beat our brains out 31-0, two seasons ago. Now we’re young again?
I’m not sure how to respond to this. What is so shocking about being young every couple of years in CFB at a school that pumps a ton of talent into the NFL?
Don’t believe me, check out the scholarship count: https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/scholarship-grid
LOL. Dantonio is a peewee coach compared to Meyer.
Let me remind you of the teams with less talent that MSU has lost to:
NW 2018, 2017, 2016
I'm going to stop there and not mention the games Dantonio coached teams eeked out against sister of poor teams.
How many 1st Downs does Purdue actually have at this point (end of the 3rd quarter)?
Just looked... 210 yds and 12 first downs. Not exactly “prolific” status.
It always helps not to have 2 slug MAC talent LBs playing against Purdue.
B1G West Race: Wisconsout.
Adios Wisconsin. Iowa and northwestern should be there in Indy
Can’t wait until the comparisons begin that we will get trounced by MSU if they beat Purdue. By that same logic, Northwestern is on the same level as scum, because they’re dominating Wisconsin. You can’t compare two games as a predictor of what will happen.
Northwestern vs. UM Was very competitive.
Yes it was. But I’ll put money on scum to blow them out 9/10 times.
Iowa smoked us last year, and then got beat by Wisconsin. Any comparison would have said Wisconsin would wreck us, but we beat them.
The transitive property of football is a fallacy of epic proportions. Good teams lose to lesser teams all the time.
The NFL week to week is mind boggling. Teams look like SB contenders one week then shit the bed against lesser talent regularly.
Matchups matter. Rondale Moore was a disaster matchup for us going across the middle
Buckeye til I die
Straight truth. Especially since the gap between "upper tier" and "lesser teams" is smaller than it used to be.
OSU had 3 failed red zone chances vs Purdue, all 3 of which could've been TDs had OSU executed to their capability. Clearly this team has some issues, but score 3 TDs there and that game looks a lot different.
Idk maybe I was wrong and Purdue might pull this off. MSU is playing Tressel-ball and being way to conservative in their playcalling.
Wisconsin was No. 4 in the preseason AP. Shows how much they just look at last year when they vote.
Purdue right now is playing how I want the Buckeyes to play.
Both teams are bringing it physically. I'm jealous.
I'm also jealous for the no call on what looked like targeting on the Purdue turnover. Didn't even flags it or review it. OSU's DB gets ejected no question for a hit like that.
Where are all the people at now who said Purdue was a good team?
Welp. That's how you run block.
*Whispers* - MSU is ranked 121 in the NCAA in rushing.
well obviously purdue was just so SO SOOOOO beat up from how bad the buckeyes hit them and it was their super bowl and they are the best team every but were just tired. /s
So it's like a yearly tradition now that we get beat real bad by an opponent and then they immediately drop the next week's game, huh?
Purdue actually looked good against MSU. The difference is a few things went wrong for them today. Nothing went wrong for them last week. Last week answered the question of how badly can Purdue beat OSU if the game breaks for them perfectly. Had there been an even break of luck/big plays, the game would have been close. Close is not good enough for OSU but we are not 29 points worse.
Pop quiz: Without looking, there have been only 2 teams that have a win the next week after playing Ohio State this season. Which teams are they?
The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender. - Woody Hayes
Oregon State and Tulane???
Guessing Tulane is one?
I was debating whether it was good or bad for the Buckeyes whether Purdue lost.
if we cannot pull our heads out of our asses, it doesn't matter.
That team scored 50 on us? Yikes.
Yeah, really embarrassing. Really makes OSU's weaknesses look even more glaring. Purdue played a solid game against MSU, but it was really obvious that if you minimized Rondale Moore's big plays (something MSU did but OSU couldn't) that Purdue's offense was manageable to defend. Everyone knew that going into the game and OSU gave up 170 and 2 TDs to him.
Well it’s probable we got 0-4 in November
nebraska is on the rise
Michigan st defense dominated Purdue
maryland is a road game and we haven’t played a convincing road game yet
Michigan is a better team from a-z and we will be spent and ready to be done.
Well it’s probable we got 0-4 in November
Gonna beat Nebraska by 14+ but sure
Explain? We struggled against Minnesota and Nebraska crushed them. Remember 1 week ago we had 6 points in 3.5 quarters against a Purdue team that lost to eastern Michigan.
If comparing select games predicts future outcomes, why did we beat Wisconsin in the B1G championship? We lost to Iowa by 31, and they lost to Wisconsin the next week.
Lol how in the world did OSU lose to Purdue??? We made their whole team look like all stars and they lose to MSU with their 2nd string QB....lol lol lol that's all I can do...we better have a new D coordinator and a new LB coach next year lol
Not too different from Iowa last year, who lost their next 2 games after beating OSU.
Combination of everything going right for a team in a home night game, and really poor preparation, adjustments, and in game coaching for OSU.
It is very different from last year. This defense has no leaders, at least last year we had Ward and Jerome Baker. Also, our LB Corp is about the worst I've ever seen. I don't think we go 0-4 but it's likely we drop another one before the season is over.
Purdue pretty much exactly who we thought they were. Just shows how utterly unprepared Ohio State was. Frankly, it really disheartening.
And at the same time TCU fails to score a touchdown vs Kansas.
Our strength of schedule is poop.
Nate Stanley is playing like shit.
seriously? those giant slayers, purdue and iowa, both looking like toothless kittens today. how did we ever ever fall to these second tier teams?
Look on the bright side we are the dream crusher for literally every team in the big ten.
