Victor needs to step up. Like step up in his all around game. Not have one great play then take 6 plays off. He has the talent, but does he have the head?
I was telling people just last week how bad he looks on certain plays, then how blatantly amazing he can be on others. Hopefully this will allow him to get some consistency.
He ran straight into the defense a couple of times in the second half, didn't juke left or right, played the defender like he was a man to man cornerback. Mack ran good routes and he was an excellent blocker.
Agreed. And there are at least two dickwads/assholes judging by the math. I think some guys have DV stalkers on here, like NavyBuckeye. To them and to those who STILL don't understand how to use your DV privileges, I write: #GTFO!!!
I have done it before--I rarely downvote and have tried frantically to find out where I did it. I was able to correct some--never found others. It happens.
No way to try and come back from foot surgery to play one game and re injure for next year..just say he is out for the year and focus on being leader of receivers next year
This just sucks. Austin Mack is my favorite Buckeye. I had the chance to talk with him briefly at the Maryland game last year. Super nice, very intelligent young man. Heal quick Austin.
Unless there was a secret plan to add 30 lbs on him and teach him to play LB in 2 weeks, this won't affect us. The wr room is the least of our issues. heal up and see ya in the spring.
I've been as harsh as anyone on the wr room the last few years. Hell, they earned it by playing like complete trash. They have definitely stepped it up this year, all be it with a HUGE upgrade at QB.
I honestly hope they don’t start Victor. He lacks concentration and effort, especially in blocking. So much potential still waiting to see it realized.
I’d move KJ Hill back outside (he’s played there before & has skills to do so) and use Campbell w/RUN DMC inside. Keep Victor second string.
How about Saunders? I know there has been some concern about his size when blocking, but if you saw the film study article, there is no way it could be any worse than the block Victor made on that play.
Maybe we could get a comment from James Franklin.....
My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom. - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)
Is is wrong to give more details on the specifics of the injury, rather than just saying "injury" and "procedure"? Not that it's our right to know, I was just curious.
In any event I hope he heals quickly and can be productive again this season.
AKA the Horseshoe, the Shoe, and the House That Harley Built
You could tell by the look of anguish on his face Saturday night that it was bad. Heal up, Austin, and come back next year with fire! Buckeye nation will miss you!
Get well, young Mack, but to be honest, I've been waiting for him to step up and take a similar role to that of what KJ now plays. It seems ever since his case of the 'drops' vs TCU, he just hasn't played with the same confidence as in the past. However, that being said, no receiver blocks like him, and that will be sorely missed.
Victor is going to have to step his game up. But I just dont see that happening. He's soft when it comes to getting 50/50 balls and he is rotten in the run/screen blocking game. Definite drop off between him and Mack
We will miss Mack's hands (even with his drops against TCU, I think he and McLaurin have the best hands in the unit) but also his football smarts. The guy reminds me of Hartline and Sanzenbacher and Evan Spencer with just being able to find space to be open for a QB.
Yea not found of Victor what was mentioned above not a strong blocker and not sure he knows the play book or run routes correctly? We will now see how good Hartline really is and why Harris has not seen more time too.

Injury on top on insult. Damn it!
It didn't look good for him on Saturday, at least we now have an update.
Quick heals 11AM , we're glad to hear you're on the mend!!

Props on the Cameron Frye gif! Lol

Thanks IBSG,
Unfortunately it just seemed fitting...

I figured... Did not look good...
Just keep punching!
Awwww crap.
Glad he isn’t quitting the team to rehab
Right on Bro!

He is a Jr. and he could go pro... Probably shouldn't, but could.
Just keep punching!
He should withdraw from school to focus on his $$
Seriously though, tough break Mr. Mack. Stay strong and thanks for your efforts.

I've been waiting to see Victor step up! He looks amazing one play then...well...not. How many drops did he have on Saturday?
One? One that I can remember. That pass to the corner of the endzone was broken up by the DB.
Fields of Dreams
Yes the pass was either late or underthrown. That was a combination of a poor pass and a great play by the DB.
WRs are supposed to catch passes that hit them in the hands, needless to say. It's called strong hands.
I was telling people just last week how bad he looks on certain plays, then how blatantly amazing he can be on others. Hopefully this will allow him to get some consistency.

I doesn't have the head OR hands. Dude drops every other pass.
Heal up Austin, we will miss you!
Keep fighting CalPoppy

Stay golden, Ponyboy.
Injuries suck. I hope everything heals properly. Foot injuries can be dicey.
Hopefully Victor mans up

Austin will be missed. Get well, Buckeye!
How the fuck do you get down votes for that GREAT COMMENT?

Because some Buckeye fans are assholes.

Ummm...In the post-Zack Smith era maybe we should avoid the phrase "DV stalkers". Maybe say something like "excessive downvoters" instead?

Totally agree. I honestly think that people forget how easy it is to accidentally downvote.

Let’s see more Cj, he hasn’t gotten as much play this year. I think it’s time for him to bring some life back into this ordeal.
Lets go Bucks. It ain’t over til it’s over!
Ohio, the greatest state in the Union!
As much as I like Austin, I feel like Parris, KJ and Johnnie can fill the role of possession guy

Man...beaten, battered, beleaguered.
Up against it all, but staying true - good and bad.
Wishing Austin Mack a full, fast recovery.

True. It’s basically the one position group we have at this point that can absorb this at least somewhat adequately
Who would've ever thought this comment would be true back in spring. WR room has been week point (at least it appeared so) for years.
I've been as harsh as anyone on the wr room the last few years. Hell, they earned it by playing like complete trash. They have definitely stepped it up this year, all be it with a HUGE upgrade at QB.
Except for the lack of the ability or willingness to block by his replacement.
The pain of discipline or the pain of regret, take your pick
I dunno, Mack was almost a guaranteed third down conversion and probably drew at least 1 PI a game.
He did draw by far the most PI calls. They should keep a stat for that

May see more of Jaylen Harris now.

Victor is a pretty soft WR. He doesn't have much fight for 50/50 balls.
How about Saunders? I know there has been some concern about his size when blocking, but if you saw the film study article, there is no way it could be any worse than the block Victor made on that play.
this either KJ or Parris moved outside, get both on the field with McClaurin, and let the others come in in 4 and 5 sets
That injury sounds eerily familiar to the one Dontre Wilson suffered. Hope Austin can bounce back. Were going to need him next season.

Wishing a complete recovery to Austin Mack.
Defensive linemen, you move that line of scrimmage from your hand to their feet . . .
Oh, lovely. Just what we needed. Another injury. /s
Get well soon, Mack
That's a Buckeye touchdown!
Heal up Mack!

It doesn't sound like this announcement was from OSU, rather it was from a reporter who got it from who knows where. So no details.
This season can kick rocks!
No need for him to break both feet...
You could tell by the look of anguish on his face Saturday night that it was bad. Heal up, Austin, and come back next year with fire! Buckeye nation will miss you!
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
Sorry to hear that. Heal quickly young man!
Fortunately, WR is the one position where we have some depth.
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Well that's some rotten news to add to a rotten week in OSU football. Heal well and come back stronger than ever Austin. We need you.

Gosh, I just hope he gets healthy period. I hate injuries.

That explains why he was in tears on the sidelines. Hopefully he can come back in time for the postseason.

"Woody would have wanted it that way"
I’d say Hill has the best hands, and McLaurin then Mack are the best blockers.
Maximum level of disappointment is quickly approaching.
Shandy is not beer
Good luck Mr Mack. Follow the Dr's orders, then do the rehab. Come back strong when you are healed, not before.
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
The team needs to sacrifice a live chicken to remove this voodoo curse. I blame Ricky Bobby.
Yo coaches, don't call runs or sweeps to Victor's side. His helmet is his center of gravity and that ain't good for blocking.
New Day for OSU. Same noon for TTUN.
Put a boot on it and step in front of the juggs machine...

Yeah I figured as much when I saw him with tears on the sideline
Major bummer

So, this season is fun. The hits just keep on coming.
Sorry for Austin, though. Really was hoping this would be his breakout season. Get better, #11.
