Don’t Look Now: Buckeyes Have 2 Receivers More Than Halfway to 1,000 Yards

There was a time this season when we were talking about possibly having two 1000 yds rushers.  No offfense can have both so I guess the question is which would you prefer, a pair of 1000 yd receivers or rushers? Both are impressive as hell and extremely rare at this level so if we end up with either, we should consider ourselves lucky. But given our remaining schedule and the inclement weather conditions we will likely face, I wouldn’t mind if we were taking about which  RB was going to reach 1000 yds first.

Great stats, Iowa. Thanks.

I'm with you, Brutus, I'd prefer if we were discussing two RBs on pace for that milestone.

Thanks for putting me in my place, old buddy. I should just be thankful for what I've got.

Maybe, due to said weather conditions, we end up with two 850 yard receivers and two 850 yard rushers... then in the B1G CG and 2 playoff games, those guys each surpass 1000 yards for the extended season. I could live with that.

It can still be achieved. Dobbins is at 497 and Weber 471 yards through 7 gms with 6-8 games left.

Meyer’s beloved Percy Harvin role, which saw quite the target uptick upon his return in game 4.

Let's move the goalposts to something more realistic: the RBs, H-backs, and WR position groups will each get to between 1500-2000 yards this season.

On the WR/H group,I have them at 2142 right now.

Campbell 557 Hill 551 McLaurin 332 Mack 307 Dixon 226 Victor 169.  I didn’t write down what Saunders had.

Edit.  I misunderstood your meaning & combined the WR & H.

HS
NavyBuckeye91's picture

I've been charting them (RBs, H-backs, WRs) in another thread. The offense in yardage (and in TDs - but not nearly as close) is almost split exactly in thirds between those three position groups (1151/1116/1034)

I felt like the H-backs in a Meyer offense are separate by virtue of the number of screens and jet sweeps they get in addition to passing yards. The WRs (regardless of letter) are fairly interchangeable.

Just shows, take what the defense is giving you. They're loading the box, so uncork the passing game.

Also, I told you so about KJ Hill. He is the truth, the light, and the way...

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

And we all proclaim:

"All hail K.J. Hill"

Urban said about 12 plays or so are run play calls a game but Haskins reads the defense and then throws.

Like Eddie said Take what the defense is giving you.

Given how the WR have played with the ball in their hands, I cannot blame him at all. The yards after the catch this year have been intense.

HS

I would have never through Campbell has 1) that many catches and 2) more than KJ. Not sure what Ohio State team I have been watching but if you came up to me and asked who OSU's leading receiver was across the board, I would have said KJ. Good use of all his weapons on Dwanye's part.

Campbell was the leading wr last year as well in terms of yards.

Through half the games they played last year KJ already has 2 more yards and only 16 fewer catches & Campbell already has more catches and only 28 yards from surpassing his total last year.

HS
LoufromOSU's picture

PC started off slow, but has 32 receptions the last 4 games.  KJ only had 4 catches in the Indiana and Tulane games, but has been money in the bigger games.

That's probably it. KJ has made the plays you see after the game if you didn't watch it so he's front and center. I'm certainly glad they are both seeing the ball as each presents a unique challenge to defenses.

Haskins in the best offensive player. Use his strengths. Yes, there is satisfaction in running the ball down an opponent's throat, but scoring points in any way is okay with me.

Weren't we told by the resident board QB guru that Mack would get the majority of the targets?

HS
BUCKAROOTIMESTWO's picture

Urban’s Offense is about the Percy Harvin role, that’s the H position, which is fed.  Anyone believing that it was going to be Mack doesn’t know Urban.

Didn’t know that we had a resident board QB guru. Sure like to meet the person, though.

So let me get this straight; assuming Ohio State plays 15 games this season we are on par to have two thousand yard receivers and two thousand yard rushers.  Given a few good games we could see that in 14 games.

Has anyone ever done that??

Hopefully the O-Line picks up their game and we actually see it.

HS

Has anyone ever done that??

Not to my knowledge.  Very doubtful it happens.

I doubt it too. But even to be in a position where it's realistically possible.... Crazy.

HS

I’ve been worried the last few weeks that one or two games with rain or wind will derail our offense.  Now I’m not so sure.  Haskins may just throw it hard enough  to negate those effects.  At least in the short game we’ve primarily been using.

HS
BUCKAROOTIMESTWO's picture

Looking forward to the challenge of the Offense having to graduate to more intermediate and deep balls/throws.

HS

And don't forget that Parris and KJ are doing this only playing 35 snaps a game which makes this even more impressive. Very happy for Campbell after all the freaking doubters out there. Drops are part of the game but his explosiveness is unmeasurable and the young man is a flat out game changer.

The fact that Michael Thomas never had a 1k season should have been grounds for firing the whole offensive staff.
