I think this spread is about right. They will be ready to play Saturday night with all the talk of this being a potential upset/trap game.
How's it a trap game with a bye week next week?
Never underestimate a bye week
If they can’t run the ball, they don’t cover, and perhaps even lose. If they have success on the ground, they win by 25+. Which one will happen? Based on current evidence, probably not the latter.
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
so, you don't think the buckeyes can score points if haskins throws for 400?
"IF" frogs had wings on their butt, they wouldn't bounce so much
If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Why can't they cover if they just throw the football?
They have to stop the other team. And lately we haven't been dominating the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball against inferior talent. And we can't keep just throwing the ball! The other team will figure it out and go all out rushing haskins. He was sack d three times Saturday and pressured many other times. Because we couldn't control the line and run the ball. All day the OL was getting pushed back by a bunch of three stars!
Hector m Rivera
Ohio State is literally allowing fewer than 8 points per game in the second half, on the season.
They allowed 14 points Saturday.
Where does that indicate that they're being dominated on defense at the line of scrimmage?
Tailgate Fare Historical Archive
You've seen them try to run the ball, right?
And lately we haven't been dominating the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball against inferior talent.
Yes, I have.
Just wondering what would make anyone think the Buckeyes defense is being dominated at the line of scrimmage. Or, how they haven't been dominant at the LoS, surrendering fewer than 8 second half points per game?
Points scored against is not accurate as the sole factor that would prove our LOS play has been good. Fact is, we get zero push in the run game and the Minnesota O-line kept our guys out of the backfield for most of the day. They one the LOS battle. We just made plays elsewhere.
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
A game is 60 min long not 30. Have you watched the 1st half? Until they can fix the many woes on both sides , mainly the defensive, all games will be up for grabs. Honestly the defensive issues have me more than a little concerned. Purdue has a good passing attack, along with good playmakers of their own. If we can't get pressure on their QB and be more productive in taking away the big plays and covering passes in general, they can keep up with OSU ability to move the ball and score. We have been horrid in the 1st half. Letting the other team with lesser talent to keep up and at times outscore us. That has to stop in both halves, not just the second. Game can be lost in the 1st half. So yeah.....OSU has been dominated on the line of scrimmage in the 1st half. And that scares me.
It's great that they've settled down in the 2nd half, but they are going to have to play 60 minutes, not 30, or we'll be seeing an L or two. Getting away with it against Indiana and Minnesota isn't all that encouraging.
This game has me worried, and has for the past few weeks. Had the Minnesota game been played in Minnesota, the final result might have been different. We keep waiting for the team to step up and play to their potential... no better time than the present.
Hopefully getting some players back will help some but by week 7 you're pretty much what you're going to be. I just can't believe this defense and running game got so bad so quick.
Yup 2014 we where who we where with 74 yards passing and 170 yards rushing right?
You talking about one game? I'm talking about all year. I think that Rutgers is the only team that we played that hasn't gained 400 yds or more. I am aware of 2014 and the turn around from the first games. Do you see the talent level on this team that was on 2014? Back 7, O-line, running back? Hey, listen, I hope all you guys that keep bring up 2014 are right and we turn it around and win the NC.
I'm not touching this game. Purdue, under the lights, getting two TDs looks like a pretty good home dawg bet though. Will be interesting to see how it moves throughout the week.
If it was -6.9, I’d bet the rent tbh.
If my bookie gave me -6.9 every week I'd be very rich right now.
no offense, but if you think purdue looks like a good bet, i imagine it's your BOOKIE who is getting RICH.
No offense, but if you think giving a pass happy team 14 points on the road in a night game when we can't even cover a fucking slant route is a good bet then by all means, go ahead. I'm not touching it. Just ask people who took UGA -7, Washington -4, WVU -6.5 how they all fared against home dawgs last week.
LOL there opponents our a little diff then Purdue.
Man I hope you guys will be laughing all the way to the bank on Saturday night with this line. Bet the rent, 401k, emergency fund on it. Maybe even liquidate some of your investment portfolio. This is free money.
there opponents our a little diff then Purdue
Normally I leave my grammar police hat somewhere out of reach, but c'mon man. How do you fuck up 3 one-syllable words in one sentence?
"It's always scotch-thirty on my island."
Logged in just so I could like this.
Law of averages says it isn't easy!
Yep, Purdue would beat their ass
Our last road game at night we won by 1 pt . IjS
"Vitalum Vitalis "
This is a game that I think we can very easily lose. Hopefully Haskins and Company are ready for a shootout.
At Purdue we are in trouble. They have a up and coming coach that I wouldn't mind here down the road. They have a very good qb that can pick us apart with very good receivers and a scary rb who is very good and fast. Best defense wins this game and ours is weak at the positions that need to be good with this kind of team.
If only Ohio State were as good as Eastern Michigan, then they might have a fighting shot.
Agreed , this coach needs a signature win and we seem to hand those out like Girl Scout cookies .
Girl Scout cookies are expensive these days.
Starting a season 3-3 at Purdue doesn't get you a major college coaching job.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
If I was betting on this game I'd take Purdue. Just think it'll be a high scoring game. Purdue might even have the best offense we have faced this year. They have excellent receivers and they are good at the QB spot. I'm feeling this will be a 45-38 type of game that could go either way.
Was thinking the same thing. Almost no way this is a low scoring game.
Hate to say it but this team is getting worse instead of better. I would not be surprised if they lose this game at Purdue. Defense is awful.
The only aspect I would disagree is Haskins....He is actually getting better...even with the increased pressure.
This team has been hurt by injury. As they get healthy you’ll see marked improvement.
Pain of Discipline
Pain of Regret
Take Your Pick
They weren’t even that sharp on defense before all the injuries. Oregon State ran it right down our throat with everyone healthy. We are past midseason now and the linebacker play is still awful. We aren’t getting better unless AJ Hawk still has eligibility.
I'll take Purdue and the 14.
Diehard Buckeye fan, but I am just hoping for a "W" and really hoping this isn't Iowa 2.0
It won't be like Iowa just because OSU didn't play the greatest against Minnesota. I'm sure the coaches will have the players attention this entire week in practice. That Iowa loss was coming off of a big win the week before, and Urban didn't have the guys ready to play.
Agree and I am starting to swing it's not the players but the coach's. I noticed since Urban has come back a decline in play. I won't be surprise if this is his last year between the Zack Smith shit and head aches popping up his health is not 100%. I posted 4 weeks ago about his squinting and rubbing his left temple in his pressers. Hope I'm wrong about his health but it looks to me to many chiefs and not enough Indians on this coaching staff. Throw in the level of talent on the recruiting trail since Zak Gate a lot of 3 star kids getting offers and why not a peep from Harrison as he should of pulled the trigger by now from a guy who doesn't enjoy the lime light. Not a star gazer many 3 star players excel but when was the last time we have all of a sudden offered so many and not trying to flip 4 and 5 stars from other teams. Some of the big names we had a lead on are now going to other schools or looking at others. Being negative sure but I look for things on the dark side that haven't been in the past. Sloppy play penalties and a slip in recruiting all at one time seems odd under Urban teams.
How do you know were not trying to flip folks from other teams? I'd have to say that is just plain wrong. I believe we recently offered a few 4-stars from other teams.
This post is so bad on so many different levels that I don't even know where to start, so I won't. But I will agree that the penalties have to be cleaned up, and there were only 5 (accepted) in the Minny game, so there's a bright spot.
Like I mentioned in a previous post...overall they are worse...however, Haskins and the receivers are getting better as the season goes on. That's been our saving grace.
I hope we're prepared for this one. Will be an absolute battle against a quickly improving Purdue team. I hope we're ready!!
I'm not looking at this with a straight face.
I'm done with spreads. Just win, baby.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
14? Take the points and likely the over too, depending on the weather.
Not with a ten-foot pole. Wouldn't touch that one.
Seems like a whole lotta people are very, very, very concerned with spreads. Do you think some of same people want UFM gone? Betting on 18, 19 year old kids....really?? Nothing wrong with organized athletics today. We have NOTHING on those insane little league parents!
I don't bet or want Urban gone but his history with health not the best. Squinting dropping to a knee not a good sign. Very sloppy play and losing recruits did I say anything not true here?
they're 7-0.....#2 in the country with one of the best 2 (if not the best) quarterbacks in the country. it's not all gloom and doom, gobucks.
Agree 100% other than being no.2 team in the land by the way we are playing at the moment. You are bringing forward the good things but at the moment there is more bad on this team. IF things don't change I can see a loss this week MSU and "ichigan too.
So when we don't lose any of those games, what will you find to harp on? My bad, there are still games after that, that you predict losses for. Iowa in the BCG! Danger, danger!
A gentle reminder to BE NICE. Plays guitar and makes iced tea in the winter.
Don't you mean adults. Some of them are married with children.
Agreed. At 18 I was in the military. Stop sheltering people just because they play on your favorite team.
Fighting the good fight in SEC country. "Our honor defend"
Maybe someone needs to hang a sign in the locker room this week that mentions something along the lines of "they way this team has been playing, I wouldn't be surprised if they lose this game"..maybe it will give them some extra motivation..
I hope that I am wrong, but this game feels like the loss that they have been building toward.
Luck favors the prepared--Edna Mode
If the "D" refuses to play like yesterday next Saturday could be a long night, it will be a Big12 battle, who scores last wins, I hope this does NOT happen, but the Boilermakers has a group of receivers and more than capable quarterback, so in my case is I PRAY THE DEFENSE COMES TO PLAY !
I'll be happy if we win by 1 score.
"Life is not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. THATS HOW WINNING IS DONE!!" - Rocky Ballboa
As you should be. B1G game, on the road, at night. It would be a battle if we had won every game so far by 30.
These are the times that try fans’ souls.
I be surprised if we win—everyone circled this as an upset prior to the season, now it looks increasingly inevitable. I’ll be euphoric if we cover the spread—and will come here and apologize to a coaching staff I would give a C grade. If once I see us outcoach someone, I may drop dead.
If I put on my most objective spectacles, Michigan is clearly the best team in the Big right now, and it’s not particularly close. Urban needs to get the memo soon, and Purdue is likely to deliver it.
Everyone circled this as an upset? Huh? Any team can beat any team on a given day, but if vegas says you're a 2 TD road favorite then NO ONE thinks purdue is better than us. Neither do I. Bucks will win.
TBH, 11W has a lot more riding on this game than anything. We lose this one and half the fans posting here this week will retire their accounts again until next year. Hey that could actually work out as an advantage. I'd rather they win though so we can hear about how we're going to lose to the next team all bye week.
Earthoid, this one takes the cake, the negativity around here is getting to be a hazard to the eyes. I just try to enjoy the wins and if there is a loss? Well those happen too. Maybe my age is starting to show or just the fact that I've dealt with two house fires as well as untimely losses in my family, three pretty awful tours in Iraq and one to Pakistan/Afghanistan so a loss or bad defense doesn't ruin my day. I remember being happy to be bowl eligible some seasons so I try not to take anything for granted. Sorry for the mini rant but your post should definitely have more upvotes imho. Great insight my fellow Buckeye!
"Old minds are like old horses; you must exercise them if you wish to keep them in working order."
During this Saturday’s game if we make mistakes due to inexperience that’s fine. But if there is any lack of effort or discipline that will be disappointing.
Banks of olentangy
When the committee gives a shit about covering the spread, I'll give a shit about covering the spread.
And I'm saying they cover. Best thing for this team is to hit the road. Get out of the Shoe. Get out of that pressure trying to please everyone. Go on the road and make it a business trip.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
I'm with you JK.
Also have to remember...lines are made to encourage even betting on both sides. With Ohio states recent struggles against lesser opponents, that number had to be just enough for betters to still take Purdue.
I think we win, but I think Purdue has the offensive weapons to keep it close. Blough has been really effective and is playing with a lot of confidence. I think we score a lot on their defense and even restore some balance. I'm thinking the OL gets nasty, Bowen plays a bit to provide an added boost, and we get over 200 on the ground against them, along with north of 350 through the air. But I think that they pick apart our depleted defense and gash us in the middle of the field all night, staying within 7-10 points most of the evening. I think the final is something like 55-45 Buckeyes.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
I predict OSU will be outcoached in the first half and look like they don't belong on the same field as Purdon't, and then come back in the second half and whip dat ass
I don't think we cover. However, if we don't beat the spread for the rest of the year but win every game I'll be a happy camper.
After watching Werner and Hilliard out on the slot in the first half against Minnesota. I shudder in thinking of them trying to cover /decide between Rondale Moore and DJ Knox.
Think Ohio State will win but won't be shocked if it's alot closer than people will want it to be. Would take Purdue at 14.
Just hoping they score one more then Purdue, get to this bye week get those bodys charged up.
Noon games suck
You are all a bunch of negative pansies. Get your panties out of a bunch, grow a pair, and enjoy the damn game. I’m sick of all these naysayers. It’s like y’all come on here to circle jerk each others negativity pole. We are 7-0. Some ugly wins. Lots to improve upon. That’s normal. It’s purdue. It’ll be a tough game. They are 100000% beatable. Jesus Christo
7 games into the season and no improvement so why should anyone think this game will be different. No one here will be rooting against our team but there is to much to worry about as they match up well against our leaky defense that can't stop a drip with a bucket.
Based on some of the comments it looks like a lot of our fans might as well be.
Love it. Well, done, sir.
Don't hold back Lew-E. Tell us how you really feel! ;)
I imagine there's less nervousness on the Purdue sites about playing the #2 team than there is on this site about playing a team that's 0-1 against the MAC.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Screen shot this: We dominate Purdue. Just when we think we won't. We'll win by 4 scores. Gut feeling.
Think this will be close in the first half. Purdue has some solid skill position players, especially Rondale Moore, the true freshman stud. In the end, think this will be another example of Ohio State's talent and depth winning out. Buckeyes pull away in the second half and head into the bye week to regroup and get some guys healthy.
Ohio State 45, Purdue 27.
Harbaugh puts ketchup on his steak.
Ohio State 45, Purdue 27
But the real question is would that score make more than 50% of Buckeye fans happy. I'm going with the under.
That's fair. I would also counter that by saying that our fans are in for disappointment if we are expecting an easy, say, 49-10 win.
Win convincingly Ohio State or you’re going to lose me! I swear it!
All these years as an Ohio State fan and you're going to give it up if they beat Purdue on the road at night by 6 points?
Pray for potatoes with a hoe in your hand.
All boards are the same every year.
Feb - Aug = gonna be the greatest team ever with incredible, best ever staff.
Sept. = oh yeah! This team is great and will just get better
Oct. = what happened? Team sucks. Can’t throw (or can’t run). Gonna lose to (insert middling B1G team). Hope staff changes happen.
Nov. = oh no, MSU is good now and F TTUN
Dec - we should be in playoffs!
Personally, I feel like October had been significantly worse than any year in the past.
If our players are motivated, then it won't even be a game. That's been the biggest problem this year IMO. Our guys look lazy and uninterested.
This game, at night, at Purdue, screams of one that the team just needs to put their head down, play smart, get out of there with a W and get to the much needed bye week.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
I believe that I declared 42-14 this past Saturday night before the booze wore off in another thread. I'm going to go ahead and let it ride. It should show me something about myself one way or another.
42-14 Buckeyes, 5 threads about how bad the team is, 3 threads about fears that a good performance will mask deeper problems, 7 predictions that Ohio State stumbles on the bye week and loses, 6 posts that Alabama would win 89-3, and.... I predict... vvvvoddd.... yes, vodka.
Go Buckeyes! Hey - win or lose, don't be the defeated ass that predicts the Buckeyes will lose every week. While eventually, statistically speaking, you'll be right, you'll still be a defeated ass.
Wait until Dwayne throws a few incompletions. I've already see a lot of play Tate comments. Will QBgeddon rise it's ugly head? HAHA
[Michael Scott GIF about yelling No! Noo! God! Please no!]
Ahhh.... Thank you
The Buckeyes have the most talented roster in college football. The defense and the O-line (running game) have been sand-bagging in order to provide crap video for other teams, and build up confidence in opponents. (see also - continuously missed slant)
They will continue to sand-bag until they get to the Michigan game - then it will be an all-out blood bath against, Michigan, The winner of the B1G West, the CFP semifinal opponent and then the CFP title.
Afterwards Urban is seen chuckling while eating pizza in a golf cart.
