Perfect spot to be in. Now run the table and see what happens in the Playoffs. Go Bucks!
Fields of Dreams
Not that the outcome will be much different but, as always, this is the AP poll. It's not the CFP poll.
If OSU finished the regular season #2 in the AP, that would make them a lock for the Playoff. The drama in the CFP poll is with those teams between 3 and 6 in the AP and Coaches.
“The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” – Theodore Roosevelt
Wood, if we end up #2 in the AP, that would mean (I'm pretty sure) that we beat MSU, Michigan and also won the B1G championship.
I like the sound of that.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves. (another) perfect trap game this coming week. Purdue is moving the ball, feeling confident, and they're playing at home.
If you asked me at the start of the season who I thought would win the west, I'd have said Wisconsin without hesitation. After yesterday night, I think even with the head-to-head over Iowa, the Hawkeyes are going to topple them. That Wisconsin team is as one-dimensional on offense as we are, only they don't have nearly the same talent to make up for it. They're going to lose again.
Michigan looks surprisingly competent, but they still have to play MSU and what's going to be a very angry Penn State team before they face us, so them coming to Columbus 8-3 is as likely as 10-1.
Go Bucks, win out and take care of business.
"porque las estirpes condenadas a cien años de soledad no tenían una segunda oportunidad sobre la tierra."
Michigan does well against teams who don't have a good passing offense. Just look at the last few games against us when JT was behind center. They're a very good run stopping defense (probably the best in CFB). I don't think their secondary can keep our passing game out of the endzone.
The browns suck and always will. Baker is a huge douche too. May a drunken mod edit this signature because it hurts his butt
Exactly. You beat them over the top and down the field.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
Good thing we don't have a run game for them to stop.
Exactly! We don't have to worry about them shutting down the run game at least. Air raid time!
Urban Meyer >Jim Harbaugh for ever and ever, Amen. 0
Michigan is ranked number 1 in passing yards allowed per game.

Upvoting for using yesterday and night back to back in a sentence ... something I haven't seen in 57 years of living. "Last Evening" has met its match...may "yesterday night" reign supreme.

Your right about Wisconsin, they can't hang with the big boys because they have a typical 70's offense, run the ball, very little threat of a passing game. Your just not going to be able to consistently run the ball down somebody's throat now a day's, if there is no threat of a passing game. Everybody worries about OSU's run game, I'm not, we're getting 100 yards on the ground a game, and 400 through the air. You play to your strengths, and right now we have a q.b. who is deadly accurate most of the time. I am concerned with the back 1/2 of the defense though, not enough time now to make changes. Your just gonna have to out score opponents.
I guess I would have also said Wisconsin due to that half of the league being so poor, but not without hesitation. I never understood why everyone was so high on them before the season. They are filled with average talent and have a pretty good running back. That's really it.
I mean, they do have at least 3 OL who will be drafted this spring. I, for one, expected a reasonably competent passing game... I was wrong.
But Hornibrook is the best QB in the Big Ten, at least according to PFF. That should then mean that Wisconsin has the better offense. Right. Right?!?!
Hornibrook looked like he was scared to death all night. The best QB in the B1G wouldn't have shit the bed at the famed "Big House".
I have seen the bad hornibrook...but this version is the petermen version. For those old enough to remember like the old I Can Name That Tune....except it was I Can Lose That Game..in four throws.
One thing I liked about RichRod offense...he would always give the qb a few easy throws early so they could be 3 for 3 and build a little confidence...hornibrook never got settled...dropping the snap on second and one foreshadowed the outcome
ttun 2019 offense...same pig, different lipstick.
Good points, but Iowa has to make it past PSU, Purdue, and division leading Northwestern. The west still seems pretty wide open to me. Hell, Purdue still has a small shot even if we beat them. Sure, they need help, but PSU beating both Wisconsin and Iowa isn't a stretch.
Looks 'bout right other than Michigan being ahead of Georgia. They should be the highest ranked one loss team considering they were ranked #2 and lost to a top 10 team. Michigan should not have jumped 6 spots for beating a bad Wisconsin team at home. I'd slot them in around#8
You don't think LSU should be ranked ahead of Georgia?? The highest ranked 1-loss team?
Yes. My bad.
No. it's cool. I was thinking 6 or 7. I definitely wouldn't put Texas over Georgia.
I'm with ya on that
Am a little scared of what LSU is capable of... would not want to face rhem next weekend...
But who has Georgia beat? SC at best?
Those who say they can and those who say they can't are both right. Which one are you?
This is why the AP poll is useless and doesn't count for anything. Georgia was ranked high at the beginning because of the previous season, which should not factor. They beat a bunch of bad teams, lost decisively to the first real time they played, and are still in the top ten because... Why exactly?
The AP poll still plays by the rules of where everyone started and how much you should drop by where you were. I do like the policy of the playoff committee, but don't always agree with their rankings.
Georgia has beaten nobody..... They got steamrolled by the only team that was decent ..... They should be dropped down to 11 or 12. I would take OU, Oregon and Florida over them
If they are worthy of the ranking it will show over the next 3 weeks. The AP poll doesn't matter and it doesn't consider resume in the same way as CFP committee.
The Cocktail Party is a week from this coming Saturday. We'll find out for sure then.

You missed the PC memo, Navy. The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party has gone the way of The Red River Shootout. It is now the bland and unimaginative River City Showdown. Is the River City on the Red River? Red River Showdown, River City Showdown......I'm confused and puke sick of PCness now.
If OSu was in the same situation as Georgia we would have dropped 10 spots .
"Vitalum Vitalis "
Yea. The whole world hates us. Refs cheat against us, recruiting services lower all of our commitments rankings, etc. We need an FBI investigation on all this. It’s bull!!
Good. A highly ranked Michigan would be a good win for Ohio State to finish the regular season.
When Michigan and MSU play it will be a case of picking your poison. Is it better to have one win over a top 10 Michigan or two wins over two top 15 MSU and Michigan teams?
Personally, I hope MSU is still ranked when we play them--an unranked but still game Spartans team scares me.
As long as we keep winning it won't matter.
Not worried about them right now- worried about if anyone wearing white can tackle or block next Saturday in West’s lafayette.
Exactly Nash Buck - valid concern for every game remaining on schedule ...
I hope Dantonio and Sparty beat the ever living $#!+ out of Michigan. F- that team.
Agreed. I knew it was better for us if PSU won, but I was still pulling for Sparty. Dantonio is aces in my book; and while (much like Macho Grande) I'll never be over 1998, I don't have much against MSU. I was however expecting a Franklin speech entitled, "We are a good team, not a great team" as a follow up to his "great, not elite".
Agree with the polls
Been saying it all year
Tua vs Haskins
As long as they get the line issues solved and get the right personel on the field for defense. There is going to have to be guys benched and I know that's not someone that Urban likes to do but it's absolutely necessary. The good of the team should come before the feelings of a few.
Notre Dame is going down in 2 weeks @ Northwestern......mark it down.
"Life is not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. THATS HOW WINNING IS DONE!!" - Rocky Ballboa
That would be the most Northwestern thing ever. They continue to be the most confusing team. One week they're world beaters, the next they are monkeys flinging poo at each other. It's maddening!
Number 1 rule in life: always beat That Team Up North.
Wouldn't mind seeing both versions of NW showing up ...and throw some #2 at ND's #4.
Because of their relative lack of talent and depth, they rely so much on matchups and preparation. If something is off, they can lose to Duke (ugh). If it everything is on, they can beat top 25 teams. They are the most frustrating and exciting team to follow in college football and have been that way for years.
While you're predicting future games can I get the lottery numbers for the power ball?
Good luck Martin
420 bookended by 69's? Nice work.
That's a pretty good bet, if they can slow down ND's passing game.
Notre Dame has this weekend off, then they play Navy in San Diego for an 8:00 pm EDT kick on 10/27. The following week, the Cats come to South Bend.
Since Brian Kelly's arrival in 2010, Notre Dame is 5-5 in games the week after playing Navy.
Do they really need stats for confidence when ND about lost to Pitt? PITT.
Pitt beat Clemson a couple of years ago, Miami last year and PSU 3 years ago. They’re good for about one big upset a year. They shot their wad this year against ND.
The game is at Ryan field
A lot needs fixed to keep that spot..
Pigskins & Porkrinds
The spot in the AP poll doesn't make a difference, but who do you see on our schedule beating us based on how we’ve played so far this season? I don’t think anyone can match the @PSU game, aside from maybe UM just because they’ll be riding high as long as they keep rolling and they want to beat us worse than anything.
I could see Purdue, Sparty, or TTUN beating us. Purdue on the road, at night in primetime, and a very competent passing game and QB. That's not a good recipe for our defense. This is the biggest game Purdue has played in years and this is their super bowl.
Sparty just won a huge game on the road and I never doubt Dantonio. They will be ready for us and they seem to wake up for big games.
As for TTUN, if we can't run the ball soon, I'm afraid our offense will become one dimensional and they can stop our defense. TTUN is competent on offense and they can have a game plan that will expose our shortcomings.
If Nick Bosa is back for Michigan, that changes a whole lot. He is a game-changer. I realize that's a big If.
“The Bucks have not beaten a B1G West team on the road since escaping Madison two seasons ago.” We literally beat Nebraska on the road last season...
Yup, I was there! Took my boy to his first Buckeye game!
Yeah he might want to take that off lol

True story. I was there.

Aside from just being false, it paints a totally bogus picture. Since the East/West format, we've won every game against the West (home, away & neutral) except for the 2017 Iowa game. A one game anomaly does not equate to a noteworthy trend.
Neither MSU or TTUN are of a huge concern for me right now, since we'll, hopefully, have Nick Bosa back for The Game (and it's in our house. MSU will be much lighter as a team, since they used up all the horseshoes up their collective asses against PSU yesterday.
The biggest trap game that has me concerned is the game this Saturday night against the Boilermakers. They have two very dynamic playmakers and a QB who is the best one we've seen so far. They can run the ball and pass the crap out of it, so our defense will really have to step it up, or it may come down to who has last possession ....
If we're not ready to play, the Purdue curse in their stadium, may come back an really bite us on the ass ..... A TRUE trap game .....
Trap game or mere mortal dread of the insanity, the nail curling madness of the most annoying sound in all of college ball, the dreaded boiler maker horn?
I hate that f***ing horn.
Beat the $hit out of Pursue and their goddam mascot.
We are rated too high. I think we are deserving of a top 7 ranking but after watching our defense, I’ll be damned surprised if we go undefeated. I obviously hope we run the table but I have little confidence at this point.
We keep stating Nick Bosa will be back but that is not a guarantee. Physically speaking, his conditioning is going to be way off by that time. I hate to see him rush himself back from this injury just to reinjure something.
Passing offense is really good. Receivers have been much better other than some Campbell and Berry deflections. Very impressed with those two aspects of our team. As we are, too many deficiencies to compete with the national powers or even Iowa for that matter. It appears they are a tougher team than we at this point. I don’t think Iowa is a top tier caliber team but they match up well with us. Michigan is similar.
While I agree we are flawed, who should be above us?
Nonsense. If Ga was #2 and got dismantled by LSU as some of us were unsurprised by, ND somehow gets #4 after barely escaping PITT for Paul Chrys sakes, why the hell is OSU not deserving of #2?
For Paul Chrys sakes!? Hahahahaha
I could see Clemson. But that’s it for a popularity poll. A power ranking poll, I could see us lower.
Our SOS can’t be great... tcu is going to be a 7 loss team, osu-farwest is dead last in the pac 12, Tulane is avoiding the bottom of the aac west, Indiana and Minnesota played us toe to to toe on our home field for over 2 quarters... each was dismantled by Iowa on their home fields. Psu despite MSU loss is still a tough game for anyone, but they are going to hit 4 losses this year. Good news, it seems like everyone “sucks” this year except bama.
If you took the scarlet and gray uniform off this team and labeled them unknown and I just had to evaluate what I saw on the field, I would see a big 12 team.
Side note: Michigan is a different team at home, almost night and day. I had them blowing out whisky. Now they do seem to play us like a home game no matter... but I see a Michigan loss happening before we play them.
I really don't get into rankings. I just came by to laugh at "For Paul Chrys sakes"
With 4 of top 10 going down this weekend... Just Keep Winning!!!
More importantly, several top tens went down.
And the Buckeyes have closed the point gap in the voting. Less than 70 points of separation this week versus 100 last.
on one hand, our LBs have been nonexistent and our oline can't seem to win in the trenches
on the other hand our QB, receiving corps, and DL are playing exceptionally well
if you look at the '68, '02 and '14 seasons, we had a lot of trouble with some of our B1G opponents... at times looking horrible
hopefully it's all part of the growing process... as Urban likes to say 'fixing the problems'
not sure we'd want to play bama or clemson right about now
"The future is bright at Ohio State." - Urban Meyer 1/1/15
I bleed scarlet and gray (see .. I CAN spell) and it's so exciting to finally have an NFL caliber QB and a great receiving corp. That "said" ... the bucks have to be the shakiest #2 ranked team in quite some time. I suppose if opposing teams start backing off to stop the passing game it might open up the run game some. Along with everyone else it's hard for me to fathom why our RB duo isn't doing better, after last season I thought they would have a monster season this time around. For both our lines to get pushed back consistently, all the missed tackles and some of our secondary looking like they are running in sand ... I'm SOOOO confused LOL. But hey ... go with what ya got ... keep doing our Big 12 team imitation at a high level and it may take us far.
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
AP #2 is meaningless. We’ll see where we are in the CFP poll.
Well said. Our defense is weak and we can’t run the ball effectively. I think we lose 1-2 games before the end of the season and one of them might be this Saturday at Purdue. With the number of top recruits we have, we should be playing at a much higher level.
"In America, anyone can become president. That's the problem." George Carlin
In quite some time as in say, maybe 7 days ago when UGA was ranked 2?
Ha ha ... true that ... good point BMeech!
Play worst game of the year, move up to #2 spot.
I'm so glad the AP is irrelevant and the CFP committee controls the matchups.
LOL, who would you put at 2 then? Clemson??? They almost lost to f*cking Syracuse
Of the top teams I’d say LSU has the best resume despite a loss, followed by us.. Bama has looked strong all year but still hasn’t played anyone. It’s a toss up. I wouldn’t be shocked it we were #3 behind LSU when the CFP poll comes out.
100% disagree, LSU got smacked by a mediocre UF team. No way they should be anywhere near us
Who DVs this? Its an opinion! One I happen to agree with, but still wouldnt DV it if I didnt. C'mon people - we ain't reddit.... get with the program.
Why weren't we ranked #2 last week?
Because Georgia was undefeated last week?
Number 2 now, good deal. The Buckeyes better bring their A game next week or Brohm is going to upset them. Purdue is no joke. Another poor performance like yesterday and a big L is coming.
Pollsters don't watch the games. Just look at the scores.
That and look at the highlights. And the story of the highlights was 'upset Saturday'. 4 top ten teams go down and we win by more than a score? No story. If everyone had held serve, we would have been eviscerated in the review shows.
There's a lot of ebb and flow during the season, but based off of the last couple of weeks, I'm not sure we're the second best team in the country.
Agree - I'm not sure why some fans still think a team of 18-22 year olds plays to the same level every single week. LSU looked rough against UF, then awesome against UGA. Michigan looked inept against ND, but dominant against Wisconsin. Bama and Rutgers may be the only exceptions to the rule and that's because Bama doesn't play anyone and Rutgers should consider dropping football.
If you were rewarded by being in the CFP every year what would you change?
I'm not sure where the Buckeyes belong, but I feel very confident they are not the second best team in America right now. They have the talent and potential to be the best team, but there are way to many issues (most are correctable) for them to be considered that high. Both side of the line of scrimmage - offensive and defensive line - are playing below their potential. Bosa's absence is wearing on them. We have holes at linebacker - our best run-stopper is too slow-footed for pass coverage, and nobody has yet stepped up to take his place.
Haskins is the real deal and in spite of three drops against Minnesota - one in the end zone - he completed a sizzling 75% of his passes and we won by 16 points. The completion rate when K.J. Hill is targeted is through the roof. BUT WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO IMPOSE OUR WILL IN THE RUNNING GAME!
I am not a coach and can't tell the coaches what they should be doing, but I see the results on the field. It is too late in the season to blame inexperience. Purdue scares the snot out of me. So does MSU and TTUN. Maryland is an enigma. Any one of those games is losable, and TTUN may not be winnable if we don't shape up.
New York Buckeye
The top group shrinks from 5 teams to 4 with the departure of Georgia. Clemson picks up a full spot while Ohio State only rises .6 spots. Alabama claims all but one number 1 vote.
Penn State was the bottom of the second tier of teams last week but now is the last team in the third tier. Oregon rises 7 spots to finish out the second tier and to serve as the Pac 12's final media story line for the playoffs. Penn State is probably the end of the road for NY6 hopefuls.
New Day for OSU. Same noon for TTUN.
You make that spreadsheet yourself? Nice work bro
My years on earth have given me some spreadsheet skills. However, the only real notable aspect of this is doing it on my phone.
+1 for spreadsheet skills!
Yep, seems about right. The defense is good enough to keep teams in check and the offense good enough to outscore. 7-0... can't ask for much more than that in a team. Heck Iowa is probably coming out of the west to represent them in the BCG. Our guys gave up 14 to Minny and Iowa gave up 31 last week. We're a clear #2 and then there's a small drop-off to clemson. CFB is turning into an offense-driven sport, probably because you're not even allowed to hit anymore. Even Alabama who used to live and die on defense is an offensive team now. In terms of offense, I see very few teams who can stop us enough to outscore us. Pretty sure we'll see Clemson in the semi's. Not worried about Michigan, Hornibrook was terrible but they could've kept that game closer if they would have continued running the ball. Inexplicably they'd always try to pass on critical downs after having run it down UM's throat the entire drive. It'll be a good game, they just won't quite have enough offensively to beat us.
A gentle reminder to BE NICE. Plays guitar and makes iced tea in the winter.
Maybe we can finally quit pretending Auburn is great and that Alabama beating them is waaaay overrated?....
Bama could play division two teams and high school teams every week and the entire media, including 11W, would fall all over themselves describing their greatness and unbeatable nature.
That same argument can be used with us beating TCU and PSU
Pretending Bama is best cupcake eater around will never get old at espn
I'm shocked that they moved up. I thought a 16 point win against Minnesota was as bad as a loss.
Tom Brady lost to John Cooper. Never forget.
Yeah weird.., You know what's even weirder.... I saw highlights of the Iowa vs Minny game where a few Iowa fans were high-fiving each other after having given up 31 points! As a Buckeyes fan, if the defense gives up more than 7 points I'm furious, just downright devastated. But they seemed genuinely happy to have won that game, even though they gave up 31 points. I think that's because Iowa is just a lower-rung team who could never compete with us.
Only one team has held Minnesota to a lower point total than the Buckeyes did this weekend: Maryland.
Uh, by contract we have to refer to them as, Maryland, Slayer of Texans.
Thank Jim Delany.
Come on people, we are not a top 5 team! Are any of you watching the games! We are pathetic of defense! We can't stop the run or the pass! We commit too many penalties! Our OL is getting pushed around by a bunch of three stars! We can't run the ball to gain a yard . Haskins got sacked three times and was running for his life much of the day! Urban is getting outcoached every week. And team is getting beat up by a bunch of three stars! Since the first game of the year many of you kept saying we were going to fix things! What exactly have we fixed? We'd get killed by bama, LSUC, Clemson georgia, ND and will struggle to beat Purdue and Michigan. Really people? We deserve to be number two? Why?
Hector m Rivera
Watch a few Clemson and Georgia games. Our defense gave up 14 points, don’t lose your mind. Yeah our run game sucked the past couple games, that’s weird, but don’t kill yourself yet. We could beat anyone in the top 10.
Anyone in the top ten? Are you actually watching the games? We would be bama? We'd lose by 30! Our OL would get destroyed by them and the other good defenses. And let's not even mention taht we can't stop the run nor the pass! This is the worse defense I have seen in a very long time!!!
Yes, we get it! We're a terrible terrible team, with a terrible terrible defense... who has held it's last 6 opponents to a grand total of 33 points in the second half of the last 6 games. For those counting, that's an average of 5.ish points per final half of the last 6 games. I agree with you man, this defense is just unacceptable. And WHEN THE HELL are we going to see Dwayne throw for 700 yards in a single game. I mean 850+ and 10 TD's in the last two games just isn't cutting for me either. So in summation: terrible dirty rotten defense and an offense that can only generate 500 yards a game. OH THE HORROR!
The only team we have beaten that is still a top 25 team is Penn State. And they got beat by MSU. The rest of the teams we beat were horrible! Tcu has three losses! Yes they didn't score the second half, but they had a walk on QB who missed quite a few open receivers. And the OL got pushed around all game! All game! Haskins was sacked three times by a team loaded with three stars. Can't outscore every team, especially good ones. Week in and week out, this team is getting beat up physically. You can sit there and make ubsurd comments but this team is no where near being able to beat the top teams in the nation. So keep on drinking the Kool aid.
LOL your too much. I here this every year. How about this make a deal shall we. If we make it to the playoffs you pick a new team to root for If they dont I'll Ieave this board forever deal?
Word of the day: ubsurd
BTW, have you ever actually had fun being a Buckeyes fan? That 2002 season must have been horrible for you right down to the very last overtime. I wonder what you were saying about a team that eeked past purdue 10-6 if you have this level of criticism for a team that hasn't won by less than two scores but for one time, against Penn State in a white out, all year. Oh and you must've been particularly joyful and optimistic after Virginia Tech. The fact is, acting like you know which way this season is going to go based on a couple october games is "ubsurd"... saying that we would get killed by a team who could barely scrape up 9 points against LSU and gave up 38 to an offense that's not particularly explosive is "ubsurd". But most ubsurd of all is being so strung out about it all. Relax, bro - we're 7-0.
A fan I would cheer with and is a true buckeye fan. We have the second longest winning streak in CFB longer then Alabama. We've beated USC, Michigan State, Michigan, TCU, Penn State and Wisconsin since the last time we lost. If you can't be happy with this and realize there is no bad victory. Alot of fans should find another team to root for. I wish they would.
You can say that again, again.
Your feelings are shared but not expressed here in this thread. Just go to the open game threads in the Forum and you'll see plenty of impassioned complaints there too.
No sarcasm HmRivera? Oops. I need to go back and re-read this!
Hey man, they're all college kids. When your team is predicted to lose by 20 points +, it motivates you.
Hey, let's enjoy 7-0, and the fact that we haven't lost since that awful Iowa game.
Just win, baby!
Come on people, we are not a top 5 team! Are any of you watching the games! We are pathetic on offense! We can't sustain a drive! We let teams hang around! Our offense is getting held to 3-and-outs by a bunch of three stars! Tress is getting outcoached every week. And team is getting held to tight games by a bunch of three stars! Since the first game of the year many of you kept saying we were going to fix things! What exactly have we fixed? Cincinnati almost beat us. Purdue had us on the ropes. Illinois - Illinois! - took us to OT! We'd get killed by Miami. Really people? We deserve to be number two? Why? (2002 NC Team)
Come on people, we are not a top 5 team! Are any of you watching the games! We are pathetic on defense! We can't stop the run or pass! Urban is getting outcoached every week. This team is getting beat up by a bunch of three stars! Since the first game of the year many of you kept saying we were going to fix things! What exactly have we fixed? Cal gave us a game. We gave up 49 points to freaking Indiana! It took a miracle to beat Purdue! Really people? We deserve to be number two? Why? (2012 undefeated team)
VT embarrassed us. IU and Michigan scored against us at will! Really people? We deserve to be number two? Why? (2014 NC team)
For the record, I thought the 1996, 1998 and 2005 teams were more complete than all 3 of the 2002, 2012, and 2014 teams, but they achieved less. It doesn't take flawlessness or perfection to win a NC or run the table. It takes a W each week and that is all. This team has that to date. I see the flaws too - but I also saw UGA and a host of other top 10 teams lose or struggle - and I saw this team rise up when TCU and PSU gave them all they could. I'll take 7-0 and #2.
So for all the hand-wringing and misspelled invective around here the good guys are undefeated, #2 in the country, and control their own destiny?
A man got to have a code...
Georgia should've dropped to 11 or 12
7-0 with a chance to go 8-0.
GO BUCKS, BEAT PURDUE.
We may not look like a #2 team and there is plenty that needs to improve; however, there are a bunch of teams that lost in the top 25 who would love to trade places with us. At some point you are who your record says you are (to paraphrase Denny Green when he ranted about the Bears loss).
Ohio State is a school of traditions.
Having witnessed some shitshow games in 2002 and 2014, I am not hitting the panic button.
Elliott dots the eye, on this national championship win.
good point, JTFP.
I was at a wedding in 2002, in Ann Arbor of all places, and when I left home we were trailing Purdue 6-3.
I didn't hear anything from anyone about the game (no cell phone then) so I finally asked some local guys if they had heard a score for the Buckeye game, and several pissed off TTUN fans told me about Holy Buckeye and how stinkin' lucky we were, etc.
A glorious moment for me.
So yeah, I'm with you, not panicked.
I think LSU was 5 last week, and fell to 13 after losing. Now back to 5. They were dropped 8 spots because they have a QB from Ohio State. Convince me otherwise.
And Urban's 4D Chess match is in motion, while everyone else is playing checkers. He planted Joe Burreaux in the SEC to keep Saban out this year. We are somehow gonna win out, along with Clemson and ND. LSU knocks off the "unbeatable" Bama that hasn't played anyone yet, and there's only 1 spot available for the SEC. Unless their champ has 2 losses, they would go instead of Bama. And a 1 loss Texas or OU champ would have a great argument over them as well. It was all a plan from the beginning!
Alabama is in with 0 or 1 loss. The only thing I can think of if Georgia beats them in a close game, and the committee says they better take them both again.
They jumped back up 8 spots because they have a QB from Ohio State.
The Buckeyes have not beaten a B1G West team on the road since escaping Madison two seasons ago, in overtime.
Um, Nebraska 2017?
Love my Buckeyes but seeing them at No 2 is a reflection of the results not their play. The offense looks like the No#2 team but our defense may have us ranked No#25.
From what I have seen this year, I would have Bama first, ND second, OSU third, and then Clemson. Clemson has played no one, has been outplayed at least twice by lesser opponents, and just has not played good competition. We have played better teams but have a lot of challenges on defense. ND’s schedule isn’t what it’s been in years past, but they convincingly beat TTUN and also beat Stanford which is no slouch. When we fix our defense and stop giving up over 300 yards to lousy offenses, I will say we deserve to be a #2. But we aren’t there yet.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
ND beat TTUN by a TD. They only beat Vandy by five, and the Irish were losing to Pitt in the fourth quarter this week.
I'm fairly sure the only team the Buckeyes have trailed in the fourth quarter is Penn State.
UFM is intentionally keeping the running numbers down and allowing our defense to give up big plays etc. so he can dramatically fix it for November, December, and the Playoffs. He does this all the time. I don't believe UFM has gameplanned a loss for us this season... his sights are 15 and 0.
"Our kind of families win a few more football games than others." Coach Hayes
Yup. It’s all in his master plan. Don’t want us peaking too early. Lots of football left to be played.
Going for those bonuses to make up for the pay loss :)
Not the second best Team, right now, but buckeye nation will take it.
this team is still far from a championship caliber team.
I'm starting to see a trend with some of the fair weather fans. If the Buckeyes aren't dominating every phase of the game and have a 77 point margin of victory, get the smelling salts ready for the knees are wobbly and the resolve is thin.
Statistical analysis shows that our favorite team is undefeated. Really. And while not firing on all cylinders (yet), they're doing the main thing well, scoring at least one more point than the other guys.
Have some confidence in the coaches to sort things out and the players to keep executing. Breathe. #2 is good actually.
Despite the high cost of living, it still remains popular.
Agreed!!! Go Bucks
By the way. I called at least one loss for Georgia over this 4 week span. Glad it was JB
Right now I am just hoping to get to the bye week undefeated.
with a defense like that...WAY over ranked
I think our bad performance this past weekend is a blessing in disguise. If we had played Purdue (i.e. a team with a decent offense) on the road like that, we might have lost Saturday. I would be shocked if we showed up flat on Saturday. I imagine the coaches will work the team silly this week.
My top 10 would be Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Notre Dame, LSU, Michigan, Texas, Oregon, Georgia, Oklahoma.
In my opinion, Alabama probably deserves #1, strictly because they are beating their average-to-bad opponents mercilessly. I have to think they'd have finished off teams like Indiana and Minnesota by halftime, which we didn't, so even though I think our best wins are better than theirs, they have been "#1 dominant", unlike us, against weaker teams.
Clemson has a somewhat quality road win vs A&M, ND has no such road win, so I'm cool with them at 3-4.
I'm fine with LSU at 5. I know that Georgia was and still is unproven, and Auburn is off this year, but Auburn was on the road, and Michigan doesn't have a good road win yet.
I'm fine with Michigan and Texas next. Michigan's and Texas's top wins (Wisconsin and Oklahoma) are better than anything the others have to this point. Michigan's loss (ND) definitely looks better than Texas's (Maryland), but I'd understand if someone wanted to swap these 2 teams.
I'd argue that Oregon should be ahead of Georgia and Oklahoma, since their win over Washington is probably better than anything the other 2 have so far, and that I think they could've been undefeated now, had the review officials not blown what should've been a TD call that would've put them up 31-7 against Stanford, before they went on the mind a way to blow it shortly thereafter. But I could understanding arguments for reordering 8-10. I could also understand an argument that has Florida bumping one of those teams, since they beat LSU. I just have a hard time buying that Kentucky is good, and they beat Florida handily in Gainesville.
I've long thought that no more than 10 teams should be ranked. In reality, by season's end, there is rarely ever more than 7 or 8 good teams. Beyond 10, I think it's just hair-splitting and going off the preseason rankings, which favors expectations over accomplishments.
Would rather see them ranked #10 or lower. Maybe it would light a fire under their ass. AP Poll is fun to talk about and compare, but it isn't what it use to be. It means nothing anymore other than bring in TV ratings. "#3 vs #5 here on ABC" blah blah blah. I kind of wish they would do away with it all together. Like Saban said last year. It's "Rat Poison", just as the Heisman talk is. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh............let's just worry about Purdon't right now.
