Someone must not like Caddyshack.
Remember that ''good'' TCU team we beat? Yeah, they're 3-3 now.
That "good" Va Tech team that beat us in 2014 ended up 6-5. 3-5 in the ACC. Just win every game.
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Atta way to keep it positive, Barf!
Let's go live to the coaches for their postgame analysis:

Sadly I think we will prolly hear the same ol talk at Monday's presser. We gotta change stuff up if we're gonna get better.
A win is a win is a win, but my goodness do I hope to see major improvements when we travel to Purdue.
"porque las estirpes condenadas a cien años de soledad no tenían una segunda oportunidad sobre la tierra."
In the words of my dearly departed Pops, "whether by one or a hundred, a win is a win." With that being said let's get healthy and beat Purdue!
"Old minds are like old horses; you must exercise them if you wish to keep them in working order."
True, it's a win. But that O-line better improve so that the offense scores every series; because Purdue's offense is much better than Minny's and will slap that defense around and take their lunch money all game long
~ The Buck Guy
No running game and LB play is bad. Can only get better.
I think you have Purdue mixed up with someone else.
I'm guessing you haven't seen Purdue's offense. They are leaps and bounds better than the Gophers. Not even comparable
They're the #59 scoring offense in the country. And they haven't exactly played a murderer's row of BA defenses. And yes, I've watched Purdue's offense. I watched them against NW. After a 14 pt first quarter, NW kept them in check the rest of the way. They lost 31-27.
If they can show that they can score on a top 30 defense, then I'll give them their due.
Usually I'm not the type to say I told you so..... meh
Not in today's college football...
At this point, I'd be happy with gradual improvements in running game and defense.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
If we have not seen by now we are not going to see it. There may be a talent deficit in places but this is mostly on the coaches. How do let a team keep doing the exact same passes without finally telling your defenders "play them inside, make him throw to the sidelines". I was screaming at the TV then Klatt says "they are running the exact same play over and over". Next, how can so many big guys be pushed around and abused by 4 down linemen. Prince was a turnstile that just had all its bearings replaced and newly greased. Offense line got zero push. The only way they knew who the linebackers were was when they may have met them after the game. Giving the d line a bit of a pass due to the injuries there but still everyone talks about how the Buckeye backups could start anywhere else. Uh, wrong. And least not from what we are seeing.
Saban would fire most of this defensive staff mid year. Doubt Meyer does anything even after the season is over.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
I agree with you Philly that this is on the coaches. So many teams out there that are doing more with much much much less talent. Joel Klatt was calling out lack of basic fundamentals from poor angles that LBs and Safeties were taking to the knee and hip work of the Oline. I almost think we’re too talented and athletic that we can get away with not playing fundamentally sound ball.
If we don't figure out how to run with two of the best running backs in CFB, and if our secondary doesn’t figure out simple geometry, Purdue will be this year’s Iowa
I get it but you cannot watch that game and not have concerns. Lets be honest, Minnesota is not a good team and we struggled to beat them. Without their 3 turnovers and 2 missed field goals this is a very different game. You certainly cant count on that week in and week out. I see poorly coached players on both sides of the ball giving poor effort. Haskins and the receivers are the only thing keeping us in games.
au revoir gopher
I hate the offseason.
Never so disgusted with a 2TD+ win. Can I say that?
Let’s swap out the word ‘disgusted’ for ‘concerned,’ and I’m with you.
No, I’m disgusted with the same issues on defense. And the play of the OL.
Yes DISGUSTED is the word because these LBs never improve. They are not even in the picture when the opposition runs off tackle.
Offensive line is average at best. If you can’t run the ball after 7 weeks nothing is going to get fixed. Tired of hearing Mr Fix It’s post game promises.
We need a new LB coach who isn't a friend or relative of Urban. Get a professional.
It’s too easy to use that as an excuse. What about our secondary? What about the offensive line? Is it Bill Davis’s fault we can’t run the ball against Minnesota?
Odd that the defense is what kept this game close. Only gave up two TDs, forced two FG attempts (both missed) and got three takeaways in their own territory. And, they held MN about a TD below their average for the season and their second lowest point total of the year.
I know it didn’t feel that way, but if anything the offense underperformed.
"You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, & in the manner in which you live.
So, live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you. "

Did we have a single three and out?
Yes. After Crisman buried that punt and McLaurin downed it at the one. First MN series of second half.
Also held them to four plays in the first series, 3 plays and a fumble, and 2 plays and an INT.
Stop stating facts please. ;)
A little perspective, we struggled with IU and Minny late in the season in 14' and we all know how that season ended.
Sorry, no more 2014 references allowed. The end of that season was a miracle. It was a gift. Enjoy it. But that will never happen again.
It wouldn't have happened had they not been forced to start a strong arm QB.
Urban Meyer >Jim Harbaugh for ever and ever, Amen. 0
Doesn't mean that you can't draw on it. Zeke went off at the end in a way no one expected, so, as college fans, I'll allow it.
Yeah there were three complete flukes in a row, it was a miracle. Come on man.
and Zeke didnt go off, he was just finally put to use
First time in my life I wanted to cut a game off. We are not ready for a championship at this point .
"Vitalum Vitalis "
So tired of the same issues not just week after week but getting worse week after week. This needs to change.
They're all chickens. The rooster has sex with all of them.
I was always this guy. After an ugly win my only thought was well we are _-0 what more do you want? The problem with that is the things that lead to this game being ugly will inevitably lead to that 0 becoming a 1. Possibly a 2. Is that good enough for you? It is not good enough for me if this is about winning National Championships. If this is just about having a diversion on Saturday and lets win a few games and not worry about how it looks then lets just call it that and not pretend we are after greatness.
So much room for improvement. Take the win and get better.
Feed the trolls
That's a very familiar saying
We’re going into week 8. How many times are we going to repeat this line?
New movie title: Buckeye Ugly
This needs more upovotes.
Not bad. Folks are gonna be Sleepless in Columbus after watching the past couple weeks.
Make preparations in advance. You never have trouble if you are prepared for it.
K.J. Hill, player of the game.
When he made his 1st FG, I said he just won the job. Sean has yet to hit a meaningful kick here in 5 years.
Agree; I'm kicking Sean on Ex points tho
I'll take Sean on water bottle flipping.
Straight through the uprights from what felt like a million miles away, hell of a kick...
Blessed to be a Buckeye
The defense was frustrating at times, but I can’t really complain given all the injuries and the fact that they only gave up 14.
But you can’t convince me that those are the best five offensive linemen we have. Yikes.
Dwayne Haskins 30. Minnesota 14.
The eternal optimist in me says survive and advance.........
Put some respect on K.J. Hills name.
How bout Dwayne and the Fighting Haskins 30 Minnesota 14.
KJ Hill says 'Hold my beer'
Actually he held his own beer and still made the catch...1 handed, no spill
You win with people.
KJ Hill deserves almost as much credit as Haskins.
That one hand catch...
Haskins only had 18 points. The other 12 came from the kicker.
I don’t think the kicker would have made those fgs from where the drives started
No they wouldn't. And Haksins didn't run the ball up the field either. There were lineman and RBs giving him protection on most of the those completions, and the WRs had something to say about it, too.
Point is, you win and lose as a team. It's pretty disrespectful to the 21 other guys on the field to say Haskins beat Minnesota.
If I dont see Hillard playing LB from here on out I will lose my mind.
He had his bad moments today, too.
Agreed. Not sure I understand why so many are high on him.
I think I it’s more about change than it has to do with Hilliard in particular.
Fields of Dreams
My issue is the MLB play and Werner is hit or miss ! I literally wanted to cut off a game we were winning.
Id rather have the bigger faster guy that makes some mistakes than the smaller slower guy showing mistakes in every game so far
I think NavyBuckeye91, after seeing what’s been placed on the field before us, he couldn’t be any worse. He has been a huge force on Special Teams and is a little bit bigger and faster and with a few games experience, after 2 years or more of injuries, might be the solution we need.
Possibly, but don’t you think the coaches are looking at that every day in practice? I find it hard to believe they would start someone other than the best option at every position.
I think at this point the coaches don’t know, same thing with the safety position. I think Harrison and Pryor are the best players, my comment about Hilliard might be the solution, was just my thoughts as to why some people are high on him and who knows he might turn out to be the guy. As always NB Go Bucks!
Yes, he had his share of bad plays. But he also made some plays today as well.
And he's light years better than "Big Play" Baron Browning, who seemingly gives up a big play every snap he plays!
I was actually HAPPY that he committed that late 4th quarter pass interference, because it showed he for the first time actually knew that there was a pass catcher in his area of coverage!
Again, glad we got the win and are 7-0, BUT... is anyone even remotely confident that we avoid the upset against Purdue next week? Being 100% honest, I think we’re going to lose. They have an explosive offense and our defense is completely broke. Fingers crossed I’m wrong though...
Lol we’ll be fine... We will cover against Purdue and have a bye week to heal up and get prepared for the stretch run.
"faith seeking understanding” (fides quaerens intellectum)
Nah. Too much talent for Purdue to handle. It will likely be closer than it should be but we'll get the W
That was my thought too. To beat Purdue they will have to win in a shootout, because the Boilers' offense will score consistently against this defense. Considering how awful the O-line is looking and the regression in the rushing game, I can't be positive that they win. Hope springs eternal though, so maybe we see those improvements we've been wanting since game 1?
I agree BP, I hope I’m wrong, but I think all of the weaknesses are exposed and Purdue won’t miss those 2 or 3 passes for TD’s like Indiana did. Plus the game at Purdue, at night, where OSU does have trouble, is going to be the heartbreaker game we all know is coming. Bright side to this, it’s early enough in the season and should wake this team up.
What was up with prince today? That’s a captain? With that attitude? My body is ready for down votes.
Fortune favors the bold.
Vintage 2016 performance.
Your not wrong.
45 has his number. Let’s all hope that’s it.
I think the Buckeyes were after that kid. But he is a Minny legacy IIRC. Too bad.
Some times the guy across from you is flat out better.
I was thinking, bring Taylor or Meyers in, move Jordan back to LT, move Munford back to RT. Prince needs to sit until he gets more consistent with his footwork.
"When you're part of a team, you stand up for your teammates. Your loyalty is to them. You protect them through good and bad, because they'd do the same for you." Yogi Berra
Can't down vote the truth. Hope he gets back to being a Capt next week.
All in go Buck's!
Brother, I hope so. It’s disheartening when your captain literally throws a tantrum at the ref saying someone’s offsides.
I’m a total homer, but even I will say this team is not very good right now. Actually, it’s Dwayne Haskins + Zone Six otherwise surrounded by a bad football team (by Buckeyes standards). They need to get much better and, if they play this poorly next week at Purdue, will lose.
New week, same issues. New week, same strengths. Survive Purdue and figure some shit out during the bye week.
And Haskins and Hill- my goodness what a game.
I like prince but he should have been benched in this game with how badly he struggled. Why is this coaching staff so hesitant on benching struggling players?
I'll give you one guess
Because he’s been solid all year & is a team captain. Outside of QB’s you ready see starters pulled for a bad game. Imagine if Urban benched Decker after Mack destroyed him? Imagine if Urban turned his back on Ward & Conley when they struggled? Relax.
"Because I couldn't go for three"
Prince struggled all game in all facets. When the commentators call you out, you know you're bad. He was bad in run block and pass protection, false starts, holding calls, you name it. He should have been benched.
Benched or put a tight end over there. Coaches did neither. This is really on them, not the players.
The line as a whole struggled all game. Even still starters are rarely benched for having a bad game. Everyone has bad games, even the best players of all-time had bad games. Relax.
It's almost like the coach hired his unqualified best friend and kept on an bad and bat shit crazy WR coach because he loved that persons grandpa...
And played the wrong QB all last year...
Wow. Are you telling me the backup RT would have done worse out there? Cant get consistent push to run the ball. And Prince time traveled today and reverted back to 2 years ago. Not sure how he wasn't pulled. Was killing us
The back up left tackle was worse and I’m not sure he isn’t backing up both sides.
That may be true. But when someone is having a bad game like that you gotta give someone else a chance. Sometimes, that's how you find answers. That performance was the equivalent of a quarterback throwing for a completion rate of 20% and 5+ interceptions
The backup RT is NPF. And he needs plenty of work himself.
Sure, as a freshman he does need the work. But dear god. Either pull Prince or have a TE over on that side to assist with blocking. Gotta do something. The willingness to stick with what isnt working will cost us eventually. We don't need to play perfect, but we do need to show the ability to adapt to the reality of what is happening in a game. And the reality is that Prince didn't show up today. His name was called almost as frequently as Haskins...
Also shoutout to the coaches for the worst two minute drill I’ve ever seen before halftime. Top notch work there fellas.
They certainly earn every penny of their salary don’t they?
He owes me 260 bucks vacation pay, and he won't fuckin' pay that, so I figured a handful of chips wasn't too much to ask.
While I agree they could have handled it much better, the refs dealt a dirty hand when, after the last first down we made, they marked the ball and started the clock with players strewn all over the place. That was a good 12 seconds they essentially took off the clock right there.
North until you smell it, west until you step in it
Nebraska would have loved if the refs had done that today and made their game 12 seconds shorter.
The clock only stops while they move the chains. They don’t hold off on starting as a courtesy to the offense. If you don’t want the clock to start again don’t call a running play up the middle.
I’d say there was some shared blame on that one. Passing to guys in the middle of the field and short of the sticks isn’t exactly prescribed in the 2-min drill.
Right now Ohio State is the biggest sham in the country.
I do not at all have the mind of a bully... in my mind bullies are intolerant of contrary opinion, domineering and rather cowardly.
Well damn, man.
They certainly aren't playing like a top 10 team (and let's not ever think about CFP level). It's just sad that Haskins and Zone 6 are so excellent with such a poor supporting cast of players around them (and coaches). Same problems since week 1, and instead of improvement they are regressing.
With the best QB in the country. I like our chances
WVU would like a word. They just lost to Iowa State.
Or maybe Miami who just lost to UVA.
ND struggled and escaped Pitt. Clemson needed a miracle to beat Syracuse two weeks ago.
The Buckeyes just held Minnesota to their second lowest point total of the season while putting up 30 points, only punting twice and not turning the ball over at all.
Oh, and none of the skill players got injured today. Bama lost Tua and a pair of starting WRs in their game with Mizzou.
Stiff competition today from UGa, Wisc, PSU, Wash, The U and WVU.
And I don't think a single Top 25 team covered this week, except ttun.
And I don't think a single Top 25 team covered this week, except ttun.
That right there shows you that something wasn’t right with college football today! scUM covers a spread and beat a top 15 team?!
When in doubt... Muck Fichigan
Wasn’t always pretty but a W is a W! Positives from today:
1. Dwayne Haskins and these WR’s are big time! They give us a chance against any team in the country.
2. We found a kicker.
3. Forced three turnovers on defense.
Kicker, yes! Haubiel made FGs that I don't think Das Boot would have made. DB has always been frustratingly inconsistent so I'm happy to see that the back-up has gumption.
Number 1 rule in life: always beat That Team Up North.
Don't forget we actually threw the ball to the TE multiple times in key situations.
Everyone mad at defense but the they should be mad at the o line. Once Munford went down it was bad. Prince wasn’t blocking the right and Alabai wasn’t blocking he left. The defense only gave up 14 and zero in second half.
Defense gave up some big plays but it’s basically Chase Young and a bunch of second stringers at this point. They locked down when it mattered.
Spot on. Defense held MN below their scoring average, caused 3 TOS and forced two FG attempts. It didn’t feel that way, but defense kept the Buckeyes from looking much worse.
Offense had to settle for as many FGs as TDs, and couldn’t muster 100 yards of rushing.
It’s game 7. Any room for improvement abound have happened already. So frustrating seeing a team loaded with all this potential underachieve. I’ve said this for years prince isn’t that good. I think this team slips up and loses a game. Dammit I’m so aggravated
I’ve said this for years prince isn’t that good
Not saying Prince looks like a Hall-of-Famer on TV, but Nick Bosa disagrees with you. And I’ll take his word for it, cause he might kill me with his pinkey finger otherwise
A win is a win is a Win!! I'll take. Easy to focus on the negatives of this game, so no need. More and more this team is resembling the 2002 Champs where it doesn't look pretty but they find a way to win, and that's all you can ask. They're still yet to play their best game and should hopefully be peaking near years end where it will matter the most. Again, several injuries on defense, no 90+ yard plays (yaaah, lol) and when all is said and done, held them to 14 points. Haskins for Heisman is strong as ever since the running game has disappeared. Again, I'll take it but got some work to do.
Big Ten Man, stuck in Pac-12 Land
Lol what. More and more this team is looking like 2016, not 2002. If the Minnesota d-line can cause that much trouble, what do you think Bama or Clemson’s would do?
Suck it up. You'll get through it. Its just football. And Minnesota is better than Syracuse this year
I say 2002 because of the winning ugly aspect of this team thus far. in '02 how many near misses did that team have? Cincy had that team on the ropes a, sprinkle in a couple of OT games, and Holy Buckeye, but they found a way to win. So far this team is doing just that, finding ways to win (so far). Speaking of Holy Buckeye, Purdue is probably gonna be another tough game.
FYI--the 2002 team won six regular season games by a TD or less, including 4 unranked teams. They barely won the Holy Buckeye game and came very close to getting beat by UC.
Easy to focus on the negatives of this game, so no need.
While I don't totally disagree with you as far as us fans, I certainly hope the coaching staff focuses on the negatives of this game.
My point, exactly so many negatives, we could write a novel about what we saw today. Leave that to the coaches to fix moving forward. We won against a team that saw this as their Superbowl and played like it.
We won against a team that saw this as their Superbowl and played like it.
I agree on leaving it to the coaches. Let's hope they make changes have what it takes to get it solved. You may want to guard against the Super Bowl talk. Every team we face sees us as their Super Bowl. Every...single...team. Penn State included. Michigan every year. It's a misnomer. It's no excuse.
So true (superbowl reference), I only mentioned that because it was brought up during the broadcast, that Fleck was treating this game as a championship type game. But they gotta get better and expect to get every other teams best game.
My thoughts during the game we’re looking more and more like 2013. Explosive but one dimensional offense covering for a bends a lot and breaks too much defense. Take away the mobile QB and the run blocking for Hyde, substitute with a better throwing QB and receivers who are playmakers, and there it is. And a good team will make them look very pedestrian.
I get we need the line to block better but in game when it is happening over and over we need to have RB's and or TE's helping or chipping when its happening over and over again...
Yea the inability to adapt quickly is mind boggling. Try a new OL or give the current ones help. Defensively, Minnesota's receivers ran one route pretty much the whole game. And we let them. Don't let the receivers get inside of you or change the scheme and a you probably have an easy pick 6
urban meyer is the best recruiter in the country but an average football coach
That’s how he won that championship with tressel’s upper classmen
You mean the players that Tressel never coached?
doesnt that support Meyers coaching ability
Yes. Must have misunderstood what you were trying to say.
LOL yeah 3 National Championship average you're not very smart.
So many different ways to refute this. Win percentage, National Championships, players in the NFL, winning percentage at BGSU and Utah, coaching tree. The list goes on.
You referenced players in the NFL and the coaching tree, sort of making the point about Urban’s lack of actual coaching ability. It’s been his amazing recruiting of talent and assistant coaches that have helped.
Ask those players and coaches if Meyer didn't help them become better at their craft. If you think he just recruits great players and hires great coaches, without helping them develop, you're selling the man incredibly short. If it were that easy, Jim Harbaugh would have more wins.
Great post Navy, don’t understand the Urban hate either
Top to bottom our team's discipline is hot turds right now. What is the deal with all the penalties.
Jenny Taft, MVP.
Maria Taylor is better.
This is not a championship caliber team. Remember when the RBs were elated once JT left? LOL. Well today: 18 carries for 58 yards, zero TDs. Our short yardage offense is shit. Thank god for K.J. Hill. Also, s/o to Dwayne for stat padding.
This might sound dumb, but our OL is so tall, they can’t seem to get low enough to run block. We seem to run a zone blocking scheme and opponents are run blitzing us with LBs to fill the gaps.
Getting too used to pass blocking which requires no push forward.
Which worked well when the QB was a threat to run. Now the free backer can just key on the RB.
Cool, I have a fan. Hi, fan!
Werner needs another year. Move him back on depth chart.
Wade needs to start at safety.
Move Jordan back to guard, give another person a chance at center
Defense needs to make zone a major part of the scheme. We do not have the horses to play man to man all game.
Pray Bosa comes back.
It wasn’t the guard today it was the tackles.
Pass blocking, yes, but the entire line was at fault for the run game.
Okudah gave up few if any catches today. Sheffield looked better, and Arnette is solid. We did give up slants, but we also gave up 0 points in second half and made some plays on the ball. When we get healthy along the D-line I think we'll be fine. I'd be OK playing some zone though.
Those slants and in routes just can’t be that hard to defend. Make the receivers beat us on the outside. So damn frustrating.
You named our corners. Thats why I believe Wade should play safety this year. Get the best 11 on the field.
I really can't think of any positives outside of Dwayne, the WR's, and Haubeil.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
Hey, Urban is a good friend. There’s that.
He definitely helps keep mediocre coaches employed.
Crisman - nailed that punt at the one, and he’s the holder for FGs.
Rough, rough day. I am definitely ready to see some big improvements this coming week.
Changes have to be made, anybody know when Buckeye Fever is on. I really want to see Urban’s press conference.
It’s not on tonight. They couldn’t find a network, is what Clay Hall said.
Dwayne Haskins with two 400+ yard games in a row and yet both were frustrating. How does that even happen? (Rhetorical question)
Ugh, that running game. The O-line...YGTBSM...SMH. Haskins...WOO HOO!!! Hill...WOO HOO!!! Luke Farrell...good game, young man. 2nd half D...good stuff. 1st half D...where are you?
I survived Cooper, and I hate Tai Streets.
While we seem to be regressing, we are 7-0 with a few weeks to get better before defenses get tougher. That being said, look at the dumpster fire in Auburn, Ga. Bet some 4 and 5 stars are starting to doubt.
I don't expect to see Auburn in the playoffs and now I don't expect to see Ohio State either. I'd move Notre Dame and Georgia up
Notre Dame is looking past Pitt right now.
Not Georgia. Vastly over rated as well. Haven't played anybody, and I'm picking LSU against them today
Let's revisit this comment soon...
Funny you write this as they are both currently losing
Georgia got their asses handed to them by Joe Burrow and company and ND barely held off Pitt.
Pryor got smoked most of the game - especially the 1st half. He gets an INT in the 4th, and will probably grade out champion now. I've noticed shit like that a couple of times already this year.
If he gets graded a Champion that will be laughable.
Haskins, Hill, Haubiel, Farrell, T-Mac, Fuller, DreMont Jones, Chase Young (maybe) and that’s about all I can think of off the top of my head.
Urban will not change anything. He will talk at press conferences about improvement. Not until they lose will there be anything truly addressed or changed. Just expect another dumbass motto. Win the moment, chop the tree, chase the wolf, what the fuck ever. How bout block the defensive end. Or create some running lanes. I dunno.
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
Afraid you’re right. Does anyone else wonder where the leadership on this team is? I know Haskins has a really laid-back personality and isn’t into the rah-rah stuff, but damn...someone needs to provide a spark now and then. You could practically see Troy Smith injecting energy and passion in his team when he felt they needed it. Haven’t seen that yet this year.
Problem is all these players starring at each other. No Billy Price to lead the o-line. We have no studs that can step in and take charge....be a man and lead this team. Haskins is a leader. If we could get an o-lineman.....linebacker....D-lineman to step up and take accountability for their unit, this would be a legit team. If that does not happen we are screwed. michigan will steam roll us at our current level of leadership.
C. Brian Massie
This made me laugh out loud! Love the mottos! I too have always thought they were corny, but whatever, if they motivated the guys then cool. How about these? Punch the rock, swim the lake, climb the hill, eat the dog, fart the biscuit, shit a win.......Or........Make a tackle, stop a slant, get the QB.....I dunno either.
But here's the bright side: at least we're not Auburn/Lawlburn.
Josh Alabi played well when he came in.
What game were you watching
It seemed to me the pressure was coming from the right side. Sorry to interrupt the negativity. Carry on!
He really didn’t though lol
Yeah, after a rough start he did seem to do better.
I'm super disappointed in this team, and like the rest of us, I can see that, despite being 7-0, we are not a championship caliber team. We have a transcendent QB who, along with some much improved receiver play, has willed us to victory repeatedly, but that's about it. With that being said, the histrionics from some on the forum thread is getting to be a bit much. Jesus, guys, we're not going to win a national championship every year. We're not going to win every game every year. It doesn't mean that everyone has to be fired, and the world is coming to an end. Chill the f out.
Agreed, Buckeye Nation should accept that this team isn't good enough to compete for a National Championship this year. Be happy with a Big 10 title.
However, too many of UFM's buddies as coaches, Stud, Davis, Schiano all should go
I definitely agree that we need to make coaching changes after this season. But, yes, absolutely, this team is what it is and we're just going to have to get used to it. Some years just aren't the year.
Glad we win, but we aren't getting better
We get the win and go 7-0
Players of the game = Dwayne Haskins & K J Hill our best WR
The D improved in the 2nd half
Bad Things & there are many:
The O Line continues to struggle - showing no passion/energy, no nastiness, poor blocking technique (no bending knees) leads to getting pushed around by an average D Line for the whole game. Coach Studrawa's unit played poorly that is the reason for no running game
The D continues to give up big plays. Yes we are banged up but this has been a consistent theme throughout the season.
Overall full credit to Fleck and his team. They played harder than we did and they out coached us.
It's past time that Davis and Studrawa step up as coaches of their units!
I’m not sure the D improved. They made a few stops but Minny gave us a few gifts. We still gave up chunks.
First off, Haskins for Heisman. Secondly, I hope our offensive line and defense improves because otherwise I can see an upset or two happening if Haskins has an off night. But then again I could see Haskins not having another off night and carrying us to an undefeated season and a natty because he is just. That. Good.
He's a beast for sure. With the way the line is run blacking this year we'd be screwed if we didn't have such a prolific passer behind center.
My kids asleep. 10:30 my time. School tomorrow. Go Bucks!
Haskins handled pressure just fine today. I knew that his struggles in the PSU game was largely a result of the egregious drops.
There were an equal number of drops today.
Yet not all drops are equal.
I mean, Mack had another goal line drop. I guess I don't understand why drop against PSU would shake Haskins more than drops against MN.
If anything, the pressure PSU gave with blitzes was more in Haskins' face than what he saw today.
No I agree. I just thought Haskins was better earlier in the PSU game and if those would have been caught, it could have been a real boon to his confidence and the offense in general at the time. But otherwise your point is well taken.
Despite giving up nearly 400 yards, OSU's defense allowed only 14 points.
Of course, they benefitted from Minnesota's missed FG's.
OTOH, OSU D gave 16 plays of 11 or more yards, of which 9 were 15 or more yards, and 7 over 20 yards.
Don't want to be ungrateful. I am very thankful we won. Haskins and the receivers are money as always. But … good Lord, the defensive performance in the 1st half simply is not acceptable for an OSU team. How many opponents had rushers with 100+ yards against us this season?
"The minute we stop expecting greatness, we become Wisconsin."
They have a habit of making mediocre running backs look like Heisman contenders. You'll have that when one of your LB's is undersized and the others let themselves get washed out of the run lanes. Then, to top it off, the safeties are constantly out of position
Sadly, I find no way to refute your statement. To make matters worse, hoping for magical improvement this season is feeling more and more like naivaté.
7 - 0. Just win baby. Doesn't matter how, doesn't matter by how much. And it was by more than 2 scores. This isn't figure skating where you win on style points. You guys are something else. You should be glad . . . sometimes I think you guys don't know how good you have it.
The thing about your team is that they will play up to the level of the competition and down to the level of the competion. Knowing it was Minnesota, I'm not shocked . . . it is hard to get competitive juices flowing against a 2nd rate team.
However . . . should Michigan start slow tonight, and win by a measly two scores vs. Wisconsin, will you measure them the same way you measure your own team?
I expect Michigan to always be in tight games regardless of who they're playing. Just another week at the office.
Isn't Michigan moving to the MAC as soon as Harbaugh signs that lifetime contract?
The thing about your team is that they will play up to the level of the competition and down to the level of the competion.
This. So much this. It drives me crazy. I want the killer instinct to manhandle these inferior teams but we always come into games like this sleepwalking. And then have to turn it on in the second half. Makes me want to pull my hair out.
Actually, style points do matter. Do you think we would have been selected to the be the fourth team playing for the natty if we hadn’t absolutely destroyed Wisconsin in the Big 10 championship game? I would bet the dog that if we had won by one, we wouldn’t have gone.
You've got a point. They matter to TOSU, which has a shot at the national championship. Michigan doesn't. Right now, at Michigan, style doesn't matter. Just win baby. Beat everyone, and let the chips fall where they may.
A riddle wrapped in an enigma. Have the coaches lost the locker room?
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
Certainly not. Quite the opposite. These guys play 60 minutes. But the coaches have lost something ...
I don't see that being the case. I think we're seeing the results of multiple classes being pillaged by the NFL. At some point the attrition was going to show on the field... Hopefully they'll be seasoned a bit by the the time The Game rolls around.
Rarely does a team have everything together, I fully embrace that. There are always weaknesses.
The aggravation here, for myself I should say, is the regression towards worse play. I'm not seeing a team that has some holes but deals with it & slowly improves. With the exception of Dwayne & receiving corps ... everything seems to be getting worse weekly.
Injuries absolutely contribute but not to the extent we're seeing.
A OSU team (oline) that can't run block? That's blasphemous to say!
One of the most frustrating wins I’ve ever watched (how many times have I written that!). I think the negatives have been pretty well covered above.
I think Pryor is really improving! Still made some mistakes (like all the secondary) but looks like big improvements from beginning of the season.
If we're looking for silver linings, I'd say the secondary play was significantly better this week than last. 2 INT's, a forced fumble and not getting beat deep. And yes, I'll put Pryor in that category as well; he's a true safety, and he's getting matched up man to man in the slot requiring the skills of a corner.
What is crazy is that the LINEBACKERS are INVISIBLE. It's as if there is a gigantic Bermuda triangle in the middle of the Buckeye defense between the D-line and the secondary that swallows them up and leaves RB's and TE's completely wide open and uncovered.
Reality is alot of the players are not as good as fans and coaches think they are. Reality is watching their performance on the field. 7 games in and it is unacceptable to let players play despite their poor play.
Borland, Werner, Pryor, Browning, Prince are 5 guys whos putrid play desrves benching.
Does anyone think for 1 minute Pryor would be in the game after that pathetic missed tackle that lead to a 40 yard gain if Nick Saban was coach? Hell no. His butt would be on the bench.
Would Saban for 1 minute play 2 slow as slug LBs that have MAC level talent?
Today was totally unacceptable play from the back 7 to the sissy Oline run blocking. Players need to held accountable or lose playing time.
I still can't understand why Martell is not being used in short yardage situations.
YES!! Everyone knows we're running, why not have options!??
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
With the lack of OL push, not sure a 5’11” 180 lb guy will do.
Try 210lb giving another option to watch for.
Wouldn’t matter if he was 310.
Martell is quick and elusive. The defenses are stacking the line and keying on the RB. The read option with him makes the defense stay honest and the pass is still there. It's not working the way it is now. Bringing him in on certain situations gives us more choices. Why are you so negative?
Come on guys, let's stay positive. We'll beat Purdue 10-6 next week.

More like 42-34 or something like that. Our passing game is too good (and improving) to be held to 10 points. The defense will probably give up 24 first half points though
It could always be worse - looking at you Nebraska - but the regression in the play of the OL abd defense is a HUGE problem and is going to get this team beat at least once in the regular season if they don’t right the ship ASAP.
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
I’m happy with a win, but am just dumbfounded with how many things need to be ironed out.
Let’s get right for Purdue. Go Bucks!
That was difficult to watch.... being an optimist I keep thinking the secondary is finally going to get it together but alas. I didn't expect to return to old form but hey, he was there too.... After the last several weeks, instead of thinking winnig out, I'm wondering where the wheels finally fall off......
At this rate it might be next week...Feels just like 13', 15' and 16' played down to completion damn near every week but won with in spite of glaring recurring issues. you just know a loss is coming and it will be ugly when it does.
Disappointed in the O-Line run-blocking, but I’ll take a solid double-digit victory
Conference play always brings out some demons
I am sure this has been beaten to death already.
Haskins was the team (with the WR). They played out of their minds.
The running game was mostly absent, primarily because of terrible run blocking.
Bad pass protection on most plays. Have not seen Prince play this bad since that PSU game they lost.
The Gophers flat out outplayed OSU in this game. It was a generally pathetic outing.
On defense, it was just horrible. No adjustments to the same or similar plays. No pass rush, bad angles. There were not long TDs but too many big plays. They got turn overs when they had to but that was really it for them. They did not give up points in the second half but against a more explosive team, this would have been a blow out.
What sucks more than anything is that we can't seem to sync up both sides of the ball. Bama was so beatable last year, but our offense was holding us back. This year, this hack job defense is gonna hold back the best passing QB we've had in 12 to 20 years maybe, ever.
I can't help but to already be bitter than Haskins is one and done. Always at Ohio State does our top players leave with eligibility remaining, often 2 years remaining.
If you promised me Haskins comes back next year, all of the weight of the world goes off Buckeye Nation's shoulders, and we play to win one of the next two titles. It's almost as if the coaches, and now the players, are tightening up as if it's championship or bust this season.
Nick Saban coaches as if it's Championship or bust, and if we want to be at that level, we have to have that mindset as well. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if our coaching staff is up to the challenge.
Couple things... Where has the tempo gone on offense? I understand when you're trying to run the clock, but to start the game, the quick pace hasn't been there.
The inability to stop the slant was absolutely maddening.
If you expect to beat TTUN with this defense and a running game who averaged 2.5/ carry against Minnesota then you'll be disappointed come November... I've never seen a defense so bad with such a simple scheme and this has to be the worst rushing attack we have had in years
Right now this Buckeye Team reminds me of the 2013 Team. That Team was explosive on offense running the ball(Hyde and Miller) and had a defense that struggled all season giving up big plays and was especially weak in the back seven. Haskins and the receivers have been lights out all season and the running game has been disappointing, but the potential is there with better O-line play. However, the defense is not playing at a Championship level, and at times the play has been embarrassing. I think the young players will continue to improve and hopefully they'll get some guys healthy again, but I'm really skeptical about being able to win any type of Championship with this defense and more importantly this defensive scheme.
+ 2nd half shutout, Dwayne, kicking, and KJ especially get kudos
- Coaches, Prince, and LBs grade out not passing
? Assuming Munford is OK, no new injuries this week
Urban indicated that the Munford injury seems minor. Rolled his ankle.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Can we fix all the problems we have? No O line ? Wtf! What bowl game do we get into with no defense and a pass only offense? Sad
That pass only offense has Dwayne and Zone 6, which is probably good enough to get us into the playoffs. But yes, right now we will get roasted against any other Top 4 team.
Well a win is a win and beyond that it is what it is. At some point the belief that a team is more then it shows has to give way to reality. The running game is ineffective because the offensive line is not dominating. Jordan is a stud, but many of the others are not that impressive and the apparent fact there are not better options on the bench is concerning. The defense is hurting. Linebackers are not dominating either. Hillard is obviously not the answer. If he hadn't batted a couple of passes I wouldn't have even realized he was on the field. And if we have a kicker capable of nailing 47 yard FG's why hasn't he been playing?
My thoughts. Haskins and the WR where enough to beat Min. Where lucky this game was at home. You have to bench Prince a captain cant perform or act like that. Hillard had ups and downs but made more plays then any other LB. The run game was bad but I also think the RB jump around to much need to hit some holes both missed. Okunda is turning into something special. Boreland and Werner look like slow WR not LB. Also where seeing our DL decimated by injuries intreted how many snaps for player saw Tavon in alot.
I worry about the game at Purdue and Michigan State if we dont make a few changes.
1. Take away the two field goal misses and the three Gophers turnovers, and this is a pretty even game,
2. Having said, we finished with a pretty good advantage in total yardage. If the Buckeyes are able to finish the two drives that ended in short field goals with touchdowns like they usually do, then the Bucks finish with 38 points and things look a little more like they're supposed to.
3. I'm convinced a big part of the issue with our running game is that there isn't a firm commitment to running. In a way I can see why because we move the ball so well through the air, but I think Weber and Dobbins combined only had 23 carries. You're not going to wear down a defense doing that.
4. I would hate to bench Nuernberger when he's so close to the school scoring record, but Haubeil making that long field goal had to open some eyes on the OSU sideline.
5. If there's one thing message board fans seem to hate it's a zone defense, but I really think this team would benefit from throwing in some zone. At least drop a linebacker into coverage once in a while.
6. Both tight ends had multiple catches today. That will make some folks here really happy.
7. I guess what I want to see more than anything here is the sense that competition for jobs continues after August. Do any of our players play with fear of losing time? Do any of our coaches sense that they have jobs here as long as they want as long as they avoid acting like Zach Smith? There are obvious places for potential improvement, and I keep seeing that we're recruiting at an insane level, so why aren't some of our clear weak links feeling any pressure?
Making sense on all points, as usual Buckeye Chuck.
This team needs improvement in so many areas. First is some passion and pride on the whole defensive side and the o-line. Prince in particular was terrible. Second in order to help the running game, let's go with some two back sets so there is an option as to who will get the ball because Haskins is not running nor should he be very often. The defensive backs and linebackers take the wrong angle seemingly every play and how many times can a team run the same play, a slant pattern, and no one on defense catches on, some on the coaches, but the players need to adjust as well and see what is going on and not play like they have no idea going on. All in all, a bad win is better than a loss, but I expect tight games the rest of the year unless this D improves alot and the offensive line begins to play like d1 players and not d3 players.
"No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public"---H.l. Mencken
Just have to admit, we are not as deep as we thought. Injuries have showed our depth isn't quite game ready.
Point #5 = spot on! Our man D press coverage is garbage. They ran the same basic play time after time after time (quick slat) and we never adapted. We need to change our pass coverage defensive philosophy because it ain't working. We constantly get caught with our back to the QB and never see the ball coming. It's frustrating as a fan to see us struggle against mediocre teams when I really felt like we were a playoff team. But I'm starting to come to the realization that we are not a playoff caliber team. Our defense is not playoff caliber. I realize having Bosa and Harrison out hurts but our talent level coming off the bench should be more than enough to manhandle the likes of Indiana and Minnesota. Our offensive line is also not playoff caliber. They got beat like a drum all day today. Against the likes of Clemson, Georgia and Bama it could be not very pretty. And while I'm ranting.. Alabi replacing an injured Munford? That's the best we can do? God help us! Sorry for the rants! Just needed to vent. I bleed Buckeye Scarlet and Gray!
To be fair... a lot of teams are struggling today...
"Khajiit has wares if you have the coin."
This team is definitely bipolar. They excel at one part of the game and struggle at the others. With that being said, this isn't a national championship caliber team by any stretch. There's so many glaring issues on both sides of the ball. That's on the coaching staff and there's 3 coaches that should be replaced at the end of the season and that's Schaino, Studarwa and Davis. Schiano's schemes are at best horrible and ineffective. There was a reason why Studarwa got canned from LSU because he couldn't develop linemen and Davis has been a complete disaster. Ever since Urban came back the team has regressed.
I really wish they'd bring Tate in for some running plays. Need to do something to spice up the run game.
It’s always seems like this team always has to lose a game to get their crap together, so irritating. I was at the point in this game where I wanted Minnesota to win so we can maybe learn our damn lesson.
Go Buckeyes and Go Lightning!
I've been telling my friends for days its gonna take a loss for them to get it together.
Haskins is a pro prospect. The kid has skill.
The Ohio state is good but I dont know think we can say elite.
Huzzah for our 'overrated' qb. The LBs and the right side of the OL need an overhaul.
Lazy - the one word I have used all season and will continue to use, until the offensive line shows me some aggressive run blocking .... Pass blocking is a passive form of blocking, since you are trying to just get between the defender and the QB, while giving up ground grudgingly. Unfortunately, perhaps because we pass so well, the Slobs think that they can passively run block as well ??
I see nothing but lazy penalties - lack of focus penalties (false starts and holding), from our offensive line. Isaiah Prince has the talent (he had it two seasons ago), but showed an incredible lack of consistency. Great on one play, average on the next and in the toilet on the next ..... If this young man has NFL aspirations, he needs to snap out of this lazy funk he's in and start leading the Slobs .... Perhaps that "C" he wears is too heavy a burden for him to carry around .....
I love the Bucks, but our D is not playing at a championship level. Both our D (despite only giving up 14) and our run game have regressed. I know we should just be happy with the win, but we had generally poor execution, poor preparation, and weak adjustments today. We are not getting better. Thank goodness our O wil keep us in every game. Jmoh
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results ... what's that called again? :P
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
Many if you are slapping lipstick on this pig! Really! The LBs again we're constantly out of position and were caught biting on the play action. They hardly made any tackles behind the line! When us urgoing to wake up! If our goal is to get to the playoffs and win then changes Myst be made! If it's time win mist ofvyoyrgames, keep in keeping on! The OL was pushed around all day! Three sacks!

Cannot wait until halftime next week to make adjustments on defense. Minny could have had 28 in the first half if it weren't for those TOs. Credit the defense for forcing them, but both of them were mistakes by Minny. No idea how teams convert 3rd and long on us by running up the middle. I really hope Bosa finds his way back this year. Don't want him to reinjure himself, but hopefully his Buckeye legacy means enough to him to return if possible.
Fleck clearly outcoached Meyer today. Which is getting old. I know it doesn't usually matter when you have more talent, but it would be nice if our staff had our players ready to go in the first quarter. When I saw Iowa hang 48 on them last week, I thought this would be laugher.
Remember when our D players would tackle and drive the O player back? Have seen much of that this year.
Serious question: in the stats it says 32 carries, 154 rushing yards for a 2.9 average. Are ypc accounting for something I'm missing (like qb sacks ending up in passing yards or something) because the numbers add up to almost 5 a carry. Just confused. Our run game still needs to be better either way.
I think you may be looking at MN stats. OSU didn't break 100 yards rushing today.
By the end of the game I was fairly certain that ND would be displacing us from the top 4. It now looks like their problems are the same or possible worse ( they could still lose) for today. Georgia is not looking so great either. It doesn't make us any better, but it adds perspective.
Bad weekend for a lot of teams. Unbeaten USF escaped last night. ND neary lost. UGA is struggling. UCF is struggling. Ok State pooped the sheets. Texas had problems with Baylor early.
Need to check the Farmer's Almanac. Might be a phase of the moon or something.
Before corrections can be made, you've got to be honest with yourself, your coaches, your players, your supporters and admit there's a problem. Im not seeing the admission or correction of isdues from week to week. Else how do you explain the same issues every week? LBs out of position, Safety bad angles, dbs PIs, oline no push, no running game, penalties, teams moving ball at will...
Agreed. But coaches these days don't want to be TOO harsh in public, especially when your team is in the top four and in the hunt to go to the CFP, not good PR and perception means a lot. But behind closed doors the coaches and players should be challenged to improve. I'm sure the coaches are telling these kids over and over again about the bad angles they are taking, how to get better push etc. but sometimes in sports you lose confidence and tighten up, which is the last thing you want to happen. The passing game is so high powered, a shame the rest of the package is not up to snuff, the bucks could be deadly instead of talented and favored but shaky and if upset would not shock anyone in the CFB world.
Went to the game today and wow what a stinker. Minnesota looked like the better team for pretty much the entire game. Our defense NEVER made them uncomfortable and I can only remember one TFL the entire game. And how in the world were not ever able to get the running game going? Against Minnesota for fuck sakes! A prime example, it was 2nd and 3 from the 5, lost 5 yards on 2nd down and end up kicking a field goal. I could excuse some of the foibles vs IU on a bit of a PSU hangover, but there is no excuse for not putting away a Minnesota team that hasn't won a game yet in B1G play and certainly won't be going to a bowl game. I fell worse about this team now than I have all season. We are 7 games in now and you are who you are, this team just cannot make certain adjustments and that is both surprising and disappointing.
The team is playing like Urban looked at his press conferences. Maybe they’re playing down to his example. I think his situation definitely hurt the team’s morale. Recoverable? Possibly, but not yet.
Worst performance by most of this team the entire year. Thank God Haskins and the WRs show up. OL could hardly have been worse. Can't run block at all, especially short yardage. Can't pass block all that well. And I fail to understand all the mistakes on defense. How are guys taking such awful angles, running themselves out of plays, abandoning their assignments with such regularity? Do they not understand their responsibilities or do they just choose to ignore them play after play?
If that were Michigan we were playing against today that easily goes in the L column, and frankly they look like the better team right now.
I agree the trend is troubling and the team is currently frustrating to watch at times. Not great, but we did not lose. That is more than many top teams can say today.
I think we as fans get some rose colored glasses on when it comes to historic success. The year we won the national title, we beat Navy 34-17, got throttled at Va. Tech, gave up to 28 and 24 points to Cincy and Maryland, and won 31-24 against unranked Minnesota on Nov. 15th! Then go out a give up 27 to Indiana the next week.
The Big10 is drastically better than in 2014. We have a ton of time to right the ship. I have to think having Urban Meyer gone for August has put us weeks behind. and we have a lot of injuries.
We are not playing well but we survive and advance. If that needs to be on the back of talent rather than execution at this point, then so be it.
Bears...Buckeyes... Battlestar Galactica.
