I never knew a lot of my 20s were spent drinking boilermakers.
Make preparations in advance. You never have trouble if you are prepared for it.
That's probably because they were, right?
You likely never knew you were also drinking citywide specials!
“The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” – Theodore Roosevelt
And thanks for getting Situational today. Go Bucks. Beat Purdue.
Indeed Ramzy and thanks for showering us Dubbers with consonants and vowels like no one else can!!
Go Bucks. Beat Purdue. On to the bye week...
"Defiance in Silence"
If Ohio State had beaten Minnesota by 50, it wouldn't have changed anything going forward in this season... except fewer fans would be crying.
except fewer fans would be crying.
I don’t know if I coincidentally think like Ramzy or if reading The Situational makes me think like him. Always amazing.
Patsy Stone rocks. I actually like watching Ab Fab, mostly for the drinking and cursing.
"You're the patron saint of the totally effed" - Hot Tub Time Machine
Maybe GD could cut Kirk a break and just have the Wazzou flag crew sit in on for Saturday morning.
Citywide Specials are phor real in Philly, although Bob and Barbara's PBR with a sidecar of James Beam almost seems aristocratic.
The Boilermakers get to host Ohio State, officially post (first generation) Bosa. with the weather looking to very West Lafayette-like - chance of showers, temps getting down to the 30's during the game.
All that with the recent play by the good guys seems to add up to weird Pur-voo-due again, but maybe the Buckeyes take care of business with affirmation heading into a needed bye week.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
Pur-voo-due. Nice one.
Never place a bet on anything that can talk.
The 4-3 record blows my mind. Does that also include some crazy KG heroics or was that in the Shoe?

Skip showering to save time; borrow Axe body spray from Fowler
Yes. This is all of the best things. That dude for sure carries around a febreeze sized spray bottle of that stuff.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Can he get a bottle that big through airport security??? Asking for a friend.
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Any ESPN employee can get any sized bottle of any fluid through TSA. Little known fact, SVP travels with a garbage bag full of NAIR that he spreads on his entire body before he does SCLA.
I think MSU's Super Bowl is actually this Saturday.
They play two Super Bowls, Sparty is sneaky like that
Shandy is not beer
Why does this game have to be at night? Why? WHHHHHYYYYY? I'm going to be so stressed out by 630 i'll be miserable to be around.
"I spent 90 percent of my money on women and drink. The rest I wasted." - George Best
drink boilermakers... you'll be fine.
Just keep reminding yourself how well Meyer's teams do in night road games.
Good lord Thayer just fell down.
Fortune favors the bold.
Unfortunately he had a wealth of terrible plays to pick from- He could’ve picked Prince, Knox and even Weber “how NOT to block” GIFs for this section
As I've said before, this Purdue game feels like it may be too close for comfort and that's exactly why I'm predicting we win by at least 40 points (think 2016 nebraska and 2017 MSU).
Urban Meyer >Jim Harbaugh for ever and ever, Amen. 0
FWIW, those two games were both in Columbus. Regardless, we can and should lay waste to Purdue.
I am here for the same reason you are.
Personally, I feel that Urban Meyer buckeye squads tend to play more inspired football on the road (besides the obvious outliers like '17 Iowa)
Bosa's decision absolutely is selfish. That doesn't mean it is foolish or wrong. It's probably the same decision almost everyone here would make, including myself. You have to look out for yourself because expecting someone else to do it is foolish.
I absolutely understand why he made this decision. A part of me expects to see our most talented players start shutting it down mid season their junior years (or whenever they have appeared in the top 10 of an adequate number of mock drafts).
maybe UFM's recruiting will change some to select those stellar players who were raised to enjoy the comradery you only get in HS and college football, and not consider other options for their swan song senior years
“Save yourself and relax during every game. I recommend a fine bourbon.”
On the other hand, there's a point where it doesn't make sense. Take Jalin Marshall for example. No he did not leave mid season, but he did leave a year early and because of that he was undrafted in 2016. If he'd waited and been the number one at OSU in 2017, who knows how high he'd go. Leaving early, imo, is risky. Yeah Marshall did make it to the pros because he was good, but it probably cost him a lot of money. Bosa is an anomaly. First, he was always going to be a top three pick and second he gets a hall pass because of an injury that likely won't heal completely till mid to late winter. If he'd shut it down without the injury, I think the reaction would have been "what's up with this guy?" Maybe I'm wrong but I think in most cases leaving early is likely to cost money and leaving midway in a season without an injury could cost millions in the first round because pro teams are going to start doubting if this guy is not damaged goods in some way. Aside from sitting out relatively meaningless bowl games, I can't see this being a trend,
Selfish has a negative connotation to it, and I think thats wrong. Sometimes being selfish is the right thing to do. This is one of those times for Nick Bosa. People say that he should be there for his teammates, his brothers. Are his teammates going to pay his bills in 40 years? Are they going to send his kids to college? No. If I tell my boss that I'm going to stay at my job for the next 4 years, but then someone comes and offers me $30 million to work a different job, fuck my boss and my coworkers. Pardon my french.
I remember when Joey Galloway surprised many people by returning to play one more season. Many fans spent most of the season ripping him for appearing to avoid contact by going out of bounds instead of challenging defenders for an extra yard or two. You can't please a lot of people regardless of what you do so look out for your own interests and remember most of the people who criticize you for doing so are only being selfish themselves.
Kirk Herbstreit earns a bunch of money doing a largely seasonal job, but let's take a moment to acknowledge that his Saturday is going to be an unenviable endurance test:
Don't undersell the fact that Herbie also attends his boy's MBA games on Friday nights. Not sure if he's doing it again this week, given the near cross-country flight he'd have to undertake, but the dude is committed to watching his kids play. I know a lot of OSU fans hate on him for virtually no reason (I know, I know, he's far harsher on OSU than Howard ever is on Michigan, or Pollack on UGA), but I still have utmost respect for the last QB to lead OSU before their return to consistent national relevancy.
As always Ramzy, love the Situational. Truth is, with this Buckeye defense and deflated running game, I'll be fearing a Buckeye loss going into every remaining game.
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
I like the guy, I wish he would be a bit more homer like at times, but I do not have anything against him.
At ESPN Herbstreit tries to seem unbiased, maybe too much at times, but if anyone thinks he doesn't bleed Scarlet and Gray they're crazy. His dad was a Buckeye Football Captain, he was the first John Cooper recruit and a Captain. He has publicly said that while on stage he tries to be a college football fan, but not a Buckeye fan, but at home his kids have been wearing OSU Jersey's on game day since they were babies.
He mentioned during an interview once that it gets pretty rowdy / homer-ish once the camera's are off and the crew are watching games together.
I agree. That’s why I love the candid shots where he gets caught with his fandom showing.
Herbie was so worried about being unbiased for so long that he overcompensated, but over the last few years has finally basically said, "fuck it, I don't care anymore if you think I'm a homer or not." He's even said on Twitter that he doesn't know how, according to fans, he's simultaneously a homer and hates every single team in America.
Also, Howard and Pollack are douchebags.
Excellence and greatness will be remembered...there is no room for average. None. - Urban Meyer
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - Joey Bosa
I heard him on the radio talking about this yesterday, iirc. He is going to the kids’ game, then boarding a plane around 10/11 Friday night to fly to Pullman. Probably a private jet, but still grueling. The time zone changes alone, especially getting to Purdue, are not in his favor.
Current ear worm.
Yep. Part of his deal with ESPN is he gets to watch his son’s Friday high school football games and is then flown after the game to the Game Day location. This Friday his son’s Montgomery Bell Academy (MBA) has its rivalry game against Brentwood Academy (BA). He then flies from Nashville to Pullman WA Friday night. So he’ll have a 20+ hour Saturday work day after getting maybe two hours of sleep Friday and throw in the two cross country flights in less than 12 hours. What is he thinking?
“I intend to make Georgia howl.” General William Tecumseh Sherman
My twin nephews (technically 2nd cousins) went to Brentwood. Graduated last year so I drove down for a game. I had no idea they played against Herbie's son's team.
FWIW, that's going to be one helluva game Friday night.
Plenty of carpentrrs, electricians, plumbers work 20 hours days for $25 an hour. Big deal. Some of us hate the guy because of non football actions of his....has nothing to do with his on air commentary.
I don't know. Are the flights grueling? I'm not saying it is an easy day at all, but I'd bet he is driven to the regional airport where all of his luggage is already on the plane. The plane presumably has a bed. Not a laid down chair, but a bed. Hot meal waiting for him when he steps on board and wheels up 5 minutes after he gets on.
Land in Pullman and a driver takes him to a hotel he's already checked into and handles everything. Someone wakes him up and breakfast is either ready or waiting in the car.
I love Herbie, and I'm not claiming it is an easy day. I just suspect that at first pass we are all too likely to project our own travel woes that the producers of the shows have already ironed out in loving detail. We think of getting to a hotel late and include the idea of getting luggage out, waiting for the night manager, etc. We think of air travel and think private jet but only use that to eliminate the TSA line in our minds.
And to be fair, I'm only speculating. I've never traveled remotely like that nor had a personal assistant to put just the right amount of mayo and mustard on the ham and swiss sandwich waiting for me in the car for the ride to the airport. I'm just assuming they have this down to a science of making a long day as easy as they possibly can.
If he's one of those people who can't sleep on a plane, that sounds like an almost impossible grind for Herbie.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Herbstreit said on SiriusXM he is going to fly to Pullman on Thursday, fly back to Nashville Friday morning after Sportscenter obligations, and back to Pullman after his sons' game Friday night.
Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
My dislike comes from the fact he threw OSU fans under the bus while exiting Columbus.
It was not the cool thing to do and I will not forget it.
OSU for sure does not play Purdue that often. It has been what, like 5 years (2013)?
For the Boilermaker, I prefer the Chug and Sip method.
Very interesting stat on away game success against the Bucks. Never would have thought Purdue would have the best record. This just means I am taping the game and will watch if we win. Hate to do that, but my heart cannot take it
Ramzy, we do not deserve you. Thank you for that.
We are brothers forever because we are champions

My anxiety level for this Purdue game is starting to ramp up quickly.
"I don't apologize for anything. When I make a mistake, I take the blame and go on from there." - Woody Hayes
I was at max anxiety when the schedule was released. I don't ever want to play there.
I do not buy that Team playing its Superbowl excuse at all. Thats a slap in the face of an opponent who i am sure would be just as jacked up to beat illinois, rutgers and maryland. Fact is, we made mistakes and far too many of them. Emotion and momentum do indeed exist but so to do defensive breakdowns, penalties and bad decisions.
Do you get as excited to watch games against Illinois, Rutgers and Maryland as you do PSU and ttun? I doubt you do, and it's the same for the players actually playing in the games. Players want to give their best opponents their best shot. Always have, always will.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
Beating us can make a name for a team. It is a historic event. They can always say at the end of the season, "yeah, but we beat Ohio State when they were #2 in the nation." You don't get that from Illinois, Rutgers, and Maryland. By beating us, a team can think they are good!
When one win can change the national perception of your team, yeah it takes on a whole different level of importance. And it's not an excuse, it's a warning: "These guys are amped" and if you're not ready for that you might lose. Everyone loves to bring up Iowa as though the team, Iowa, had nothing to do with the beatdown; that it was all on JT and poor line play and bad coaching. No one, even now believes that Iowa won. Instead, Ohio State lost. So how did that happen? The fact was, it was Iowa's Superbowl and the Buckeyes were not prepared for the Hawkeyes playing like it meant everything in the world to them. That's not a slap in Iowa's face; it's a testament to their will. And with Purdue the history is even stronger. OSU has lost four games and been forced to an overtime win at Purdue, since 2000. Add another overtime win at home since then and nobody has done better in the Big Ten against the Buckeyes. Not once during that time was Purdue better than mediocre. Do you think any win they've had against Illinois mattered as much or more to them than these games?
11:30pm eastern is only 17 hours after ~3:30am pacific. Still a long day including a long flight. But not quite the 22 hour day you think it is.
You think his work is done at 11:30? And that his wake up call is at 3:30? Also approximately.
It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.
Both of those are from Ramzy's timeline, not mine. "11:30pm: Finish workday..." Throw in another hour if you want, but it's still 4 hours away from 22. A long ass day, no doubt. But there's a big difference between being up for 17-18 hours and being up for 22 hours.
You’re fun at parties aren’t ya?
I don't know. I'm never invited.
Hopefully our half-time defensive adjustments are made before the opening kick-off. Love to see us give them a pounding in prime time on national TV. Go Buck!
I want us to make an agreement with Purdue to skip the first half, kick off at the start of the third quarter, having automatically spotted Purdue 21 points, and then we can sit back and watch the "adjusted" Buckeyes score 52 unanswered in two quarters to get out with a 52-21 win.
"porque las estirpes condenadas a cien años de soledad no tenían una segunda oportunidad sobre la tierra."
The Boilermakers should hurt us. I can only hope that the bad weather hinders both teams.
Love the Peter Principal line, that was hilarious and terribly true. That he now coaches at Michigan is truly going to be a painful reality for us in the future and sadly he will not make the same mistake which ended his career here!
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
Yes he will. Ed Warrinner has always wanted to be a head coach. The end of his time in Columbus did not change that.
I can only hope for this to be fact!
J.T. Barrett cheat code
Classic. Like the XBrax 360 spin move. :)
If I'm not mistaken, every Purdue upset over the Buckeyes has been a noon game correct? I was at the night game in West Lafayette in 2007(?) and we blew them out. This being a night game does not worry me. What worries me is Rondale Moore against our linebackers and DB's.
That 4th and 2 gif...wow. Just run that and look at coach Stud and the Oline. What the hell are you guys doing? Meyer might have to use the old "clown show" reference again.
Some actual clowns might have blocked better on that play
This is what Ramzy deserves after this article
My dog is having bad Rondale Moore puppy dreams right now.
Rondale Moore looks lethal. Hopefully we will make appropriate preparation and stop him from personally destroying us.
Hopefully, but our preparation for the other teams best playmakers has been piss poor so far!
Herbie is paid to promote the SEC, and he complies per his contract. Moving on....
We say traditional footprint because Penn State is Philadelphia's Big Ten Team™ and in those parts a Boilermaker is instead called The Citywide Special. It's the same drink(s). They also call subs hoagies there. Philly is basically a foreign country
I wonder what other Ohio people think that live here in the St Louis metro area. Besides living in their own bubble of reality and wondering why others think down on them (why do pro athletes leave and not live here after retirement?), they also have their own stupid vocabulary. And like any good Dunning-Kruger victims, they don't know how stupid they sound when they insult people from Indiana and don't even know it. I envy those of you that actually live in Dayton or Fostoria.
as if they spent a month and half creating false tendencies on tape just to shatter them in Columbus. Indiana did the same thing.
Yes, for most of my lifetime.
I will never ruin any variation of whiskey by dropping it with beer.
Yeah, if the whiskey is that bad, get some different whiskey.
Here's the rub: OSU's five remaining games:

Here's the rub: OSU's five remaining games:

And how is this different than the last (50+) years? Mentioned in a post a couple days ago even for ttun it's their super bowl. Especially since it's usually been a quest in futility for them the past 18 years.
No one ever said winning a natty was gonna be easy. Even 'bama w/all their continued recruiting talent had quite a bit of luck and bad luck the past (9) years.
2009 Lucky TX 1st string qb got injured
2011 Lucky to have a rematch w/LSU
2012 Lucky to be playing an overrated ND
2013 Unlucky w/Auburn's kick six
2014 Lost by 7 to the Buckeyes ~ would/could ? they have done better against JT
2015 Won NC by 5 to Clemson ~ Lucky re: Arkansas miracle play vs Ole Miss
2016 Lost NC by 4 to Clemson
2017 Won in overtime ~ made playoffs without making SEC conference championship game
The constant yin/yang of college football ... Some fools are saying 'bama is/may be the GOAT this year ?!? Surely the kiss of death!
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. ~ Mark Twain
Honest question... should The Situational be renamed to The Weekly Bummer?
It has bourbon in it. Not a weekly bummer.
I hope I never again watch a Buckeye game expecting them to blowout their opponent. It is, by far, the least enjoyable experience I can imagine.
Purdue is worthy...Purdue is worthy...
Ah, good old Bob & Barbara’s Citywide Special. A shrine to Pabst going back decades, pre-hipster PBR. A Pabst and shot of Jim Beam will still set you back $3, which in Philly is almost criminally underpriced.
There is a Rosey Grier lifesize cardboard cutout showing him wearing a sweater saying “Rosey Grier for Pabst”. I would post it if I knew how to embed a pic.
What's the deal with Cheryl's gold pants and the 97 charm? Anyone know what the 97 refers too? 1997 the Bucks lost to UM. She's Eric Kumerow's sister and Eric played in 97, and got drafted in 1998 ahead of Chris Spielman, which was a story in and of itself.
"You're welcome for the house I built."
This isn't a serious post, is it?
I sincerely hope he's just kidding or drunk or recently had a lobotomy.
Anyone know why young basketball players in the 90's liked the number 23 and wore it throughout HS and college and even the pros?
Please tell me you're actually trolling all of us with this post...one might suggest looking at the jersey number(s) of the two glorious young men she gave birth to. Wow...just...wow.
Boilermakers remind me of pickled eggs and pickled pigs feet at 6am somewhere off 5th avenue during my youth.
Two years guaranteed with a possible third year is still a gift considering the "One and Done" NBA rule. The leaving school, I'm gone is what hurts me a bit. You can say, I am out for 6 months, so my college playing career is over, but could still prepare for your dominant future and support the team. Denzel Ward decided not to play, but he was there to support his brothers. Just a comment. Congrats and like Bob Hope, "Thanks for the memories . . . "
22 hours and at 7:30 I turn to ABC, turn the volume to mute and turn on the Fan and listen to Paul Keels play by play of the game. I can't stand Fowler and Herbie talks too much.
Love the Patsy Stone GIF, my kind of gal. Nice perspective on the Bosa situation, sorry he's gone but totally understand. I don't even need my economics degree to figure that one out.
"The Snobs"- Absolutely Priceless!!!! And I'll start blaming future NFL athletes for leaving tOSU early (end of year, pre bowl game or post injury in final year) when tOSU starts: 1) guaranteeing them a starting position based on their 4-5 star status; 2) refuses to "medically retire" healthy athletes who aren't going to start so we can bring in better prospects; 3) the NCAA offers them $$ to play football in front of millions on TV and hundreds of thousands in stadiums, earning BILLIONS annually. Maybe then, and only then, do we have a beef with the Bosas, Wards, etc... of college football. Anyone who doesn't see the moral and economic justice in this, I have some very lucrative money-making opportunities for you, with only a 10% up-front fee.
How is it possible that the writers of a buckeyes fan site, and that’s the key terms, BUCKEYES FAN SITE, have ZERO criticism of Bosa and his decision? We are allowed to be critical of people without being an @asshole, right? This is a FAN SITE. one of the most important and influential player leaves earlier, for dubious reasons ( from a fan’s perspective) and EVERYONE has to agree that all fans have to support the decision? EVERYONE? Grow a pair! It’s fcking bullshit for someone who’s a captain to leave the school just so he can “get healthy and prepare for the nfl”. As a fan, Fck that. One more time, this is a fan site.
'The force is strong with this one.' We don't have to like it! I don't like it. See ya bosa!
