Very cool. No trash talking. I like it.

That's a Buckeye touchdown!

Not neutral either. What it is: clearly positive.

The core principles that drive them, have elevated them to the top. They have respect for what matters -- each other, for the game itself, regardless of which team they happen to be on today.

This is why they're elite. They see only what makes them better, not divisive, artificial boundaries.

Glad there's no trash talking. Hopefully just subtle notes that we'll see you in the CFP at the end of the year.

Sometimes the kids need to show the adults how to act.

(I know they're not actually "kids" but that's not the point)

Great sportsmanship.

I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.

I Believe In Ohio State.

I was at the Alabama game against Arkansas game last Saturday and Tua is as impressive as they come. That said let’s see how he stacks up against the gauntlet of the SEC and ditto with Haskins against TTUN and their defense.  The good sportsmanship is great to see.

WB pass it back!

Haskins is going pro

I don’t see it.

Not so fast, my friend. But let me start by saying he's got NFL talent and could go very high in this year's draft, especially given that it's going to be a bit of a down year for QBs. I wouldn't be surprised if he left at all. But Haskins' family situation isn't such that he needs to run out and get a paycheck to feed the family back home. And I could very easily envision him taking the Deshaun Watson route and sticking around to start for a second year.

Watson left the first year he could, but I don't blame him considering it worked out perfectly for him and he had nothing left to accomplish in cfb

If you think about it, it makes sense. Based on everything I've read about either they're very similar guys. They come from good families and are very grounded, humble, and confident. I can see how they'd get along well.

No knock on any of the other Buckeye Heisman winners, but I believe Haskins could really do any Archie! Some of our other winners had no chance for two, but this young fella is special.

HS
CowCat's picture

I agree. He has one of the best chances at this point if he stays, but if he keeps tearing it up this year the NFL will likely come calling.

Without a doubt. And I wish him well with the chance to make his dreams come true...but I do hope he stays! :)

Keep in mind Tua is a true sophomore so unfortunately Bama has him back next year and he also could very easily pull an Archie.

Good to hear this. No trash talking, friendship, and hard work.

After all quarterbacks don't face each other on the field. Just do your own best.

Refreshing to see the level of respect, even a brotherly love vibe.

Those are the kinds of kids that are level headed and smart.  Great qualities for a quarterback.

A high velocity laser-sighted Howitzer for a right arm doesn’t hurt either!

Not surprising.  Their level of play is at such a rare level, of course they’d relate well to each other.

The numbers show that Haskins is having a better season. But with espn amply supporting their product that is the sec, its not hard to understand why Tua is such an overwhelming favorite in the eyes of so many.

I bleed scarlet...literally

HS
Silver Sniper's picture

Yeah and I think Tua benefits from being on the better team. At least the better “eye test” team. A lot of football yet to be played.

HS

Let's visit fantasy land for a bit on this.

Let's say you're the committee and you're actually unbiased and above any political influence, including graft.

An unbiased, neutral, blind eye that wants to fairly compare teams in terms of resume or strength of schedule would devise a method to include only those games where both teams have an opponent of nearly equivalent strength, ceteris paribus. This implies that an unbiased eye test estimation cannot include OSU games that were not against cupcakes, a la a-la-bama.

How good did OSU look against Rutgers and Tulane?

This fantasy is a fantasy and wakes you up to the requisite bias that plagues the notion that the 4 team CFP is a true championship -- rather than the invitational playoff that it actually is.

Conference championships are a better reflection of who the champions actually are as every team's list of opponents has more than, say, 0 teams in common. The solution is to include a single team from each conference regardless of conference, if you don't want a 128 team bracket and actually care about being unbiased in finding the national champion. This would also force conferences to be devoid of the ridiculous notion of dual champions.

I actually think Tua's stats are pretty drastically better, especially in terms of efficiency and accuracy down the field. Nobody even comes close to his completion percentage on passes 20 yards or more downfield. Haskins has more passing yardage, put a solid chunk of it is yards after the catch. He's also a far better runner and seems to handle a pass rush a bit better. Though he hasn't really played a strong opponent yet, I think it's pretty easy to see why he's the overwhelming favorite up to this point. I have no problem with it.

PhillyNut's picture

Are those actual over 20 yard throws or are they pass plays that went for over 20 yards?

I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!

HS
Brandon26841's picture

The former.

Believe it or not, but the stats show that Barrett actually threw the ball downfield more than Haskins has thus far. They just were never really completed. Kinda surprised me to hear still.

HS
stantmann's picture

He is a lot like Haskins, very accurate, You can't knock him. He does both. Against Arkansas, he had one long pass, and most others were YAC. I believe he had about 250 YAC against Arkansas. Here's a few of his passes against Arkansas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qowau_t5C7Y

I think it’s hard to argue that statistically Haskins is having a better season. Tua has roughly half the attempts Haskins has (200 to 100). If Tua had 200 attempts his numbers project to 2,990 yards and 36 TD to Haskins 1,919 yards and 25 TD. He’s got a higher completion %, a higher YPA (14.8 to 9.7). Haskins has definitely played a tougher schedule, but the numbers as is aren’t really close at the moment. They’re both having ridiculous seasons though.

HS
Trotwoodbuck's picture

Tua leads Division I with a QB rating of 98.5. Haskins is fourth at 87.1.  Depending on how one prefers to tout their statistics that makes a strong argument Tua is having the better season.  They are both tearing it up. Team performance with probably be the deciding factor if they both continue at this pace. Honestly though as Alabama's schedule strengthens I suspect Tua will start looking better as he plays more minutes and makes more highlight plays against more respected opponents.

HS
Brandon26841's picture

Yeah, the NCAA passer rating record is 198.9 by Baker Mayfield in 2017. Tua is currently sitting at 258.4...

HS
HENRYJONESJR's picture

Could you imagine their numbers if they played full games when the were in landslide victories.  Also might be different numbers for Tua if Alabama had a played some better teams.

Urban is ready to put the red carpet out for Hurts.  I would not be surprised if Hurts grad transfers to Ohio State.  Urban's offense would be complete with Hurts and it would make the most sense for Hurts also.

He has one more year of eligibility. If he graduates he can play in 2019 anywhere that will take him. Otherwise he'll need to redshirt wherever he goes.

I like this mindset a lot better than two guys trying to compare themselves to each other all season. Just do your thing, be happy for the other guy and stay focused.

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

Good to see the great sportsmanship. Really, you should only compare yourself to yourself. If you constantly compare yourself to others your life will be a rollercoaster. Do what you do and be the best you can be. These two epitomize that.
