Wow. We were really close to being voted #2.
I wonder if that 97 year old voter from Boston still has the Bucks ranked 25.

They’ll get #2 soon enough. They deserve to be there right now with more quality wins than Georgia. Look at last three for God’s sake: 1. TCU. 2. Penn State. 3. Indiana
I included the Hoosiers because they are a quality team. What more do these voters want?
Not sure I’d include IU as a quality team. They’re 4-2 with wins over Charleston Southern, FIU, Ball State and UVA. They still have PSU, Iowa, UM and Maryland remaining. It’s likely they finish 6-6, maybe 7-5 with no wins over teams with winning records.

I agree. It's an old narrative on these boards. An average team, QB,etc. has a career day against us and we say "just wait...you'll see how good they are." And it ends up being disproven, year after year. I think we had people also saying "Oregon State would surprise people this year"...yup, right.
Did the IU quarterback drop some dimes on us Saturday? Sure. But let's not turn IU into the 86 Bears, LOL. Our beloved Buckeyes are an exciting and prolific team to watch on Offense.....and a ...disaster waiting to happen on any given play on Defense. A # 3 rating is flattering. I'll take it.
Not too far behind
There's no points for second place, gentlemen.
No shock here really. Shore up that D tho. Geesh.
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
Coach Fick #25 at 6-0. Guess he won’t be returning to our staff anytime soon.
The only way he comes back is if he’s head coach.
At this point, I’d gladly pay him HC money to come coach the LBs. He’d be worth every penny.
Yeah...or bring him in as the LB/Defensive coordinator when Schiano leaves. Give him 1.2 million a year which would be 400k more than he is getting at Cincy. I'm sure Ash will be available after this year as well.
Luke's making $2.3mm per year at Cincy, I would however pay him $2.5mm to be LB coach and Defensive Coord.
The next month will be interesting. There are 11 undefeated teams in the Top 25, but three of them are all in the American Conference, all in the Eastern division (UCF, USF & UC). It’s possible one of them survives the round robin, but equally likely they all take one loss.
The challenge for Coach Fickell is they start with Navy at home, followed by USF, then go on the road to face UCF.
Every game seems like a trap game with the way our defense is playing. Can’t look past any of them.
Yeah 23-point wins are big time trap games.
"You're the patron saint of the totally effed" - Hot Tub Time Machine
We scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to pull away. It was fairly close for most of the game
That's a Buckeye touchdown!
Exactly. This wasn’t a thrashing. 23 point final is misleading
They were favored by 25 and had the starters in until the gun. The game wasn’t secured until very late.
8 team are ranked from the SEC, including 3 teams with a record 4-2, and only 4 teams from the BIG, where is Iowa ?
Yes this is so true. There are two loss teams like Auburn who is not looking good still ranked high. This has become a total SEC circle jerk yet again with that over rated conference. Yes, Alabama is very good I think...and Georgia seems good too...but after that there is a huge dropoff. I guess Alabama and Georgia need ranked teams to beat in order to justify both in the playoff again. And these rankings do matter because the committee will have to baseline their thoughts from somewhere. Otherwise they would just put Cincinnati in the top 10 and I doubt that will happen.
Iowa is #26 by votes, about 30 votes behind UC
Just out of curiosity, whoch Big Ten teams should go ahead of Texas A&M, Auburn and Mississippi State?
A&M played Clemson to within 2 points and just gave UK their first loss of the season. Their only two losses are to #1 and #4.
Auburn beat #7 UW (5-1) and lost to LSU by 1 point. They just lost again to Miss St.
Miss State just beat Auburn and only has losses to UF and UK, which are both 1-loss teams.
Maryland has a great win over Texas, and a a loss to UM, but they lost to Temple.
Iowa has wins over Minnesota, Iowa State, Northern Illinois, and FCS Northern Iowa. All of those teams have 2-3 losses. The only tip 25 team they’ve played is Wisconsin and they lost at home.
It’s not just because they’re SEC, but also because they’ve played very well out of conference or beaten highly ranked teams. Maryland is the only 2-loss B1G with that claim, but they lost to Temple.
Besides the SEC West wil cannibalize itself and it’ll all work out. Just need to let the schedule la play out.
I agree, it's the same crap every year. 7 or 8 teams from the SEC get a preseason ranking, play 3 or 4 nobodies OOC, and stay ranked even if they go 5-3 or 4-4 in conference. Then, they say "look at all of the ranked teams in our conference, we're awesome". Along the way, they'll count early wins against overrated teams like Miami as a "win against a ranked team" all year, even if they lose 3-4 games after being a "top ten" team before having to play any games. I've long argued that 25 teams shouldn't be ranked. I'd probably only rank 10 teams, although it seems like there's a clear separation between the top 7 or 8 teams and the rest each year.
In fairness, I don't we really know who is "good" until the end of the year, after all of the conference title games are over.
For example, TCU, which seemed good a few weeks ago, now looks average. I'd argue that at Penn State is as tough of a road game as it gets, but even they needed OT to win at home vs App State. But when you compare those wins against what Alabama and Georgia has, I think it's still reasonable to say that our best wins are against teams that are better than anyone either of those teams have played so far. Perhaps we're being penalized for playing Oregon State and Tulane (fair enough, they stink and we can schedule much better than that), but OSU's counterparts in the SEC routinely play 1-AA teams every year, without any objections from the voters.
Bottom line is that if we run the table, we'll get our shot. I hope that the defense gets better though. Right now, we're playing like a Big 12 team.
All 2 loss top 25 teams are from ... you guessed it ... the SEC.
Tell us please who should be in there place? Should not be from the Big 10 as our conference is not very good. While I understand your call out, not sure other 2 loss times are warranted in those spots occupied by the SEC team.
I do mind, the Dude minds. This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man.
Iowa. End of argument.
Exactly who has Iowa beaten? Auburn beat the best team in the PAC 12, and #7 in the nation UW. They only lost to LSU by one point. They’ve played a tougher schedule and looked better than Iowa: wins over NIU, Iowa State, Minnesota and Northern Iowa (FCS) and a loss to Wisconsin is nowhere close to the schedule that Auburn, A&M and Miss State have played.
Maryland beat a team that just beat Oklahoma, And Iowa has only lost to a ranked Wisconsin.
The lord of brevity.
Maryland beat a team that just beat Oklahoma,
Maryland isn’t ranked because they lost to Tenple (3-3) by 21 points. They other loss is by 21 to UM. They have zero business in the Top 25. That would’ve been like putting 2014 VaTech in the Top 25 because they beat OSU.
Iowa hasn’t beaten anyone with a pulse, and they lost by 11 to the only team they’ve played in the Top 25. If they continue to win, and finish with just the one loss to Wosconsin, they’ll move up.
Other than a two loss Texas A&M, who has Alabama beaten with a pulse?
Iowa for sure should be there instead of Mississippi State. As for Texas A&M, sure, they're probably just barely top 25, but I don't see them staying ranked for long. I think it takes Jimbo another year or two to get the machine rolling, just like it took Smart some time at Georgia.
"porque las estirpes condenadas a cien años de soledad no tenían una segunda oportunidad sobre la tierra."
Iowa was 26 in the voting, about 30 points behind UC.
UC, USF and UCF all play each other by the end of Nov. At least two of them are dropping out. That’ll make room for Iowa if they keep winning.
TCU will get back in the rankings if they beat Texas Tech on Thursday, now that that Texas loss is looking A LOT better.
When TCU beats Texas Tech this Thursday night, they’ll be back in the top 25. Note: Iowa State, about the best 2-3 team in the country, knocked off #24 Oklahoma State. TCU played lackluster and beat Iowa State 17-14.
To be honest, I don’t think TCU has recovered mentally dice playing well for at most the game versus OSU. Young, and not a mark of an elite team; but trip 25, yes.
TCU’s following game is at home against Oklahoma. A win? Doubtful, but possible.
A big OSU win and TCU win over Oklahoma will put Buckeyes in #2 position. Buckeyes want to root for the Frogs the rest of the way, and vice versa.
Yeah, I think that TCU just has one of those OSU hangovers, they spent so much time on us that they came out like a dog vs Texas. I think they will get better, that is a solid team.
TCU is a 2 loss team that actually lost to a higher ranked teams .
"If you take it to em and you keep takin it to em , hell there's no question whose gonna win" W.W.H
A&M lost to #1 and #4, and only by two points to Clemson. They also just beat previously undefeated UK.
TCU has beaten SMU, Iowa State (by a FG) and Southern Univ (FCS). End of list. They have less business being in the Top 25 than Maryland right now.
Iowa & Washington St are both Power 5 1 loss teams that got left out. Hawaii is 6-1 already. UH is 4-1 in the AAC along with 3 undefeated teams.
They do have TTUN ahead of LSU, which is interesting. Not sure I’d agree with that.
Fields of Dreams
Michigan would beat LSU by 7-10 points
I would take LSU in that one by about the same margin.
Rutgers beat writer Keith Sargeant has us as his #1.
That way they can say that they lost to the number one team.
Let's Go Bucks
Whether a team is ranked #1 or #100, Rutgers has lost to them.
“The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” – Theodore Roosevelt
Georgia is probably going to lose one of it's next four, if not two of it's next four. Things will be changing that's for sure. I'd love to see Ohio State vs. Notre Dame first round of the playoffs.
Not happening. One maybe. Two? Huh uh.
Georgia hasn’t played anyone this season. I could see them losing to LSU or Florida and then a ticked off Auburn team trying to save face. It’s possible to lose two. One is probable in my opinion. We’ll see...
There's one loss for Georgia...Hmmmm
Sparty gonna Spart. Hope we roll them again this year.
Get better each week.
You are entitled to you own opinion, not your own facts.
And I see Jonny Miller, who had us at 25 after week 1, has us at 2 now.
So Kentucky ranked ahead of Texas A&M, Auburn ahead of Mississippi State and LSU ahead of Florida. We just ignoring yesterday and just moving up the winners a little bit? I guess quality loss means more than win.
There are three 2 loss teams ranked in the AP top 25. No shock. All three are in the SEC.
Auburn lost to an unranked team. But wait. Not anymore (Mississippi State now ranked with 2 losses)
kentucky lost to an unranked team. But wait. Not anymore (Texas A &M now ranked with 2 losses)
Auburn remains rank with 2 losses.
SEC bias runs rampant. Give the polls a couple more weeks to cram all 14 SEC teams into the rankings, and maybe 4 of them into the top four playoff contention.
Auburn also beat Washington. Them being ranked isn’t crazy.
Washington barely beat winless UCLA so there's that.
Penn State went to overtime with App State, so what? UW is 5-1.
Wisky sure gets no respect in this poll...probably because Iowa is completely ignored.
Or because they lost to a 2-3 BYU team. BYU’s only other win is against a 1-as team McNeese st
LSU #13, FLA# 14 , but hey - at least they got the TX v OK game right...
With so many good one loss teams left out of the rankings they should kick out all those 2 loss teams still ranked just like they did to TCU after they lost at Austin.
The Frogs have never gotten much respect from the AP. A unlikely win overvIhio State still would have been considered lucky to them
TCU has beaten three teams who are bad. One of them is FCS. Until they beat a team with a winning record, no they aren’t going to get respect.
What's interesting is how few teams are in the "others receiving votes" category. Only ten teams, and of those teams only Iowa, Stanford, and Wazzou are getting serious attention.
A lot of the teams that were in that category last week took their second or third L of the season. As Group of Five teams that’s the kiss of death.
When considering Georgia thus far in 2018, strength of schedule must NOT be factored at all. In my opinion, on a neutral field, Penn State would beat Georgia. I'm definitely not sold yet on Georgia until they prove that they can beat a top 10 team.
If all stays the same, #1 Alabama & #2 Georgia will obviously sort itself out. If both go undefeated though and meet in the SEC championship game then there will be a outcry for both to be in the playoff.
My top 4
2. Ohio State
4. Notre Dame
BigBuckeye says Go Bucks
TBH, I'd love to play Georgia in the playoffs. Fromm would get wrecked (assuming little bear is back). I doubt that would happen though because if they lose to Bama and there's another undefeated, no way they come in as anything but the 4th seed... and that weirdly enough would be a Bama/Georgia rematch. For me if some how ideally it could work out:
4. Who cares
We beat Georgia and meet Bama in the Final. I'd really love to expose Georgia and they're not a super strong passing team, nor is Fromm a runner, so I'd be fairly confident in that matchup.
A gentle reminder to BE NICE. Plays guitar and makes iced tea in the winter.
Georgia is top 4
A fifth team challenges the top group, but the sixth team is further than ever.
New Day for OSU. Same noon for TTUN.
I'll work for helmet stickers!
The SEC is the most overrated conference in the Nation.... AP is a joke... Georgia doesn't deserve to be 2 , they have played NOBODY.... 2 2 loss SEC teams when there are more deserving teams ....... Not that it matters in the end but ranking them artificially beefs up the records of the teams that beat 'em...
Again, PSU from 11 to 8 during a Bye week. Someone is helping us out there!
Penn State is a top 8 team. No question.
Based on what?
Based on beating the #3 team for 3.5 quarters and making that #3 teams defense look completely silly
If that’s the only criteria for a ranking, then I don’t understand all the outrage about Auburn being ranked (beat #7 UW), or A&M which nearly beat undefeated #2 Clemson and actually beat previously undefeated UK. Penn State has beaten no one of mention so far.
way way over ranked ...but yawn ..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Florida just beats LSU and somehow LSU is still ranked higher. The AP poll is completely biased and stupid. Head to head means nothing, strength of schedule means nothing, its all about the $$$$$
I hope LSU beats Georgia on Saturday, and we absolutely CRUSH Minnesota, then we'll move up to #2, or at least we should
Go Bearcats, even if for one week, Cincinnati is doing well!
For our Bucks it is always win and in, the rest will take care of itself!
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
Go Fighting Fickles
I think Bama Vs OSU will happen this year
